I wish I could like this 1000 times! I’ve been searching all over the internet on how to get cushions that don’t look like a cheap box wrapped in fabric. I didn’t know the lingo to use but that crown is exactly what I’m trying to accomplish
If you want to make the process of stuffing Dacron-covered foam easier than you ever thought possible, go to a home improvement store and buy 3M masking film. This is a very thin plastic that painters use to protect windows and such when spray painting. Wrap the foam/Dacron with the film and secure it with masking tape. The film keeps upholstery material from grabbing the Dacron, so it easily slides into place. Then reach into the cover and pull the film out. If you’ve ever wrestled with this process, you will be amazed how much easier this method is.
@@markveganism50033M’s masking film naturally clings due to static electricity but is plenty slippery enough to slide away from upholstery materials. If any other film actually clings (some of it is pretty sticky) then I would use it. A 48-inch roll (180 feet long) of 3M’s is only $17 on Amazon, and has many uses.
I have watched several Dacron wrap videos - staple to backer board, spray glue, loose wrap - this by far looks like the best. Thank you for posting this!

Thank you very much for this great tip on using Dacron to use on the cushions! I certainly appreciate learning about what and how to do this properly. Also I don’t know much about fabrics and types of foam to use on a project such as this. I can see where adding the Dacron might make it more comfortable to sit on as well as the appearance of the cushions. 👍👍👍
I'll be dammed! I sew for almost 50 years, clothes, drapery, cornices, cushions and I never used staples on dacron! Thank you for this tutorial. I wish I had known about dacron when I made new cushions for my couch. It was having a very hard time putting the covers back on. I read somewhere that you could use a large plastic bag and the cover would go on easily. Yes, it did but everytime I sat on it it would "woosh" and I couldn't figure out how to get the plastic bag off the cushion. Thank you so much for educating me. I bought L shape bench without cushions for my kitchen and going to make cushions myself, so watched so many videos to learn the best way to do my project. THX SCOTT enjoyed this video so much....very informative, you saved me a lot of sewing by hand applying the dacron wrap now I'll use a stapler Bless you
Can you put this in the trash bag and shop vac and pre compress it before adding the cover with the staples? Just want clarification from an expert, thank you!
Good question! One of the benefits to adding the Dacron to a cushion is it makes it much easier to stuff the cushion into the cushion cover. We do not use a vacuum to compress foam, thanks for watching!
Hey Scott I love your video and your instructions. But I was just wondering did you think of cutting the Dacron wrap in one large piece ( top, 1/2 of side and bottom) then you would need just the front and you would have less seams?
Not a pro here, but that looks really similar to the quilt batting my mother uses a lot of (she makes quilts to donate to those in need). She tends to have scraps+I have a tendency to try to use them in other (smaller) projects.. so far some DIY filters for vacuum+fish tank filters. This looks like yet another potential use for the pieces she doesn't use up in her quilting! Thank you for the excellent info
Just make sure it’s not bonded with toxic chemicals, first, or you may end up killing your fish. Heat bonded would be safer than a chemical bond. That stuff can be pretty toxic.
Thank you. I have made boxed cushions with piping at the seams. They did turn out beautifully. However I do prefer the plumper look that you achieve here. On my next endeavor, I will follow your guide. I do not have your staplers and do not operate a business that would justify their cost. Would you agree that I could just as well hand stitch the dacron seams? I expect it would take longer but that is not a problem for me.
Aw I wish you were in Joanne’s when I was there. No one would help me and this is my first time making a bench cushion. It was a disaster 🤣 I tried using the batting and somehow my bench cushion still shows sinkholes and wrinkles after sit on it. Maybe I didn’t get thick enough batting? My foam is 5” thick and firmest level so it’s amazing. But somehow the fabric (which is some kind of upholstery fabric) still is wrinkling. I even used a whole can of spray glue 😭hopefully I can redo it exactly like what you did and it will work.
I always used the dacron, did not know any better, it just seem that when you did a seat in a car, you needed different layers and they performed different functions, one layer for the springs, then foam, then dacron (If in good shape, I would reuse the vw "under fabric". I enjoyed the ME Movie...I'd worry about rusting staples, but it is always inside, no issues...
Very helpful video! Im recovering my couch and I’m pleased with the way things are turning out. I would have never thought about putting staples in anything I sit or lean my back on. Like you noted staples are better for the environment, than glue. I try my best to do anything and everything with the environment in mind. By the way, best thing anyone can do for the environment is have 1 or less kids and skip meat, dairy, and eggs. I agree, the woman at Joann, should have listened, especially if she has clients she wants to make happy. I would have asked “Dacron? What’s that?” Oh you mean polyester batting. I hope you don’t throw away the Dacron you cut off-It can be collected and used to stuff pillows. Polyester is plastic and will not disintegrate, EVER! Always be kind to your Mother🌎.
The women's loss in Joanne's. She passed up a wonderful opportunity for free knowledge from an obvious expert. Thank you.
O.k.

This video is awesome. Thank you ! Upholstery work is so cool. I hope to make custom cushions for when I get a house :)
Great helpful video, thank you. Have one question. Do you wrap all sides, top and back also?
Absolutely agree on everything you shared! Thank you so much for the video!!
That was so helpful thank you! I hesitated to add it to my order but not after seeing your video, and I didn’t regret it.
Don't know how she thought you had four heads, I struggled to see one. You cut it out in the first part. Excellent tutorial and tips though!!
About to update cushions. I believe I can do this.
Thank you so very very much for this great tutorial! I so appreciate you sharing your knowledge and I will defiantly do this.
You have just inspired me to cover my rocking chair
What type of foam do you recommend for a long bench cushion? Thanks for your help and tutorials…..so helpful and informative!
Thank you great information however if this is a cushion outside by the pool the staples will rust and ooze and leak on fabric
Very clear, great narration, thank you!
I flipped when I saw this because I am getting ready to reupholster some cushions!
good luck!
you are an awesome teacher!!
Thank you!
Awesome helpful video ! I’m interested in reupholstering our kitchen chairs
Very helpful hint! I was wondering how cushions got that fuller look.. Dacron Wrap.
