Incredibly informative video. After watching this, I looked up our couch and found it only used 1.8 density foam, which is why it's already feeling unsupportive after 2 years. I'm 220 lbs, and I'll be looking into 2.3 - 2.7 range from now on. Thank you so much for this!
Excellent information. I think I have to watch it several times to really have it sink in, but you seem to have it down. Great job--you seem to be a natural!
All correct information. The only additional complications are 1) formulations are not equivalent or even similar as they are totally proprietary "Secret formula" trade secrets from Carpenter to another foamer and thus a Q26 @ 35 IF is not even remotely like a 2535 despite ostensibly very similar parameters. 2) Additionally, the other variables at play like the type of upholstery (Weight, elastic properties), the design/stylistic approach at play with the upholstery (flat, no crown cushion construction vs puffy, bookwrap w/crown and more give volume gives a softer eeffect).
This is an awesome video. What would you suggest for Extra Firm I just wish the sellers would put into title, Soft, Medium Firm, Firm, Extra foam for us laments. This would make so much easier for us to order.
I am making a custom cushion for sleeping in my minivan when camping. I was thinking IFD 30s and 2 lb density. Does that sound good? I really am over blow up beds. They fail and are not comfortable.
Thanks for this.. pretty much what I was looking for.. However, I am searching for a Leather Sofa with Powered Recline most all of those have a Density of 1.8 advertised and then some have that with a layer of a filled padding on top of cushion. I want something that will last us the longest with the best feel. Do I have to either have one or the other? I would of course like Comfort.. My Wife weights in at 100Lb.. me almost 150lbs more at 230lbs.. what would you consider my best option to look for? Please advise..
All commercial bought furniture will use 1.5 -1.8 cheap foam to cut corners. I deal with this very often. They have warranty where if it goes flat they replace it but they replace it with the same foam so it’ll go flat again. You have to have a professional get you Hr
What is this foam made of and where would one get this stuff from? Would I be right in saying this foam has sponge like qualities? I want to know what it's made of because I'm going to use it in a planter that I'll be growing food stuffs in. Thanks for any info anyone can supply.
Hi . What density and IFD combinations you suggest for Wedge pillow for my back ...one i bought either hard like brick or too soft thanks for your time ...great video
I kno this is a older video.. But what do u recommend for someone stuck in bed for many hours a day, who is overweight? That u can also clean easily... I'm a caregiver.. So ya. Any help would be so appreciated.
Love the information, but I went to the website, and they are only for wholesale. I am doing home projects; do you have a supplier for individuals you can recommend? Thank you
I'd like to re-upholster a sofa that has down over foam. Does that type of construction affect which foam i should select for the seat cushions and back cushions (loose pillows)? Also, you didn't mention the foam for sofa arms. I'm guessing they should be in the firmer range. Any suggestions? Thanks
Hello! I’m looking at a couch online and they are saying that in the specifications the seat cushions are 37kg/m3. According to your video what would that mean?
do you know any online resources where I can buy these from? all I am finding locally are foams that dont have this relevant info about them, nothing beyond "high density"....I live in Europe btw
Would it be ok to replace your couch seat cushions with latex like used in mattress toppers. Like for example stacking two 3” Talalay latex pieces together and putting them in your zippered cushion cover? 😊 I like the way you explained foam, and your hair looks cool 😎 to. Thank you🥰
What IFD you recommend for an Office Chair with a backrest that has a 3.5 inch by 4 inch diamond button tufting pattern. 2 inch thick backrest and 4 inch thick bottom cushion. I know that I should be using a 2.4 PCF or higher foam.
What density and IFD would you recommend for reupholstering dining room chairs? Currently they have approx. 3 inch foam and it must have been low density because they did not last very long? Thank you for your help!
Thanks for making this video! Is 32D good for a base layer for a bed mattress? It has 2 inches of Latex (65 D) on top and 1 inch of Memory foam (55 D and TDI based) in the middle with 5 inches of HR foam (32 D) at the bottom. What do you reckon?
Orthopaedic : The Layered composition is - 1 inch Cool Fit Foam (35 D) + 1 inch transition layer (40 D) + 1 inch Memory Foam (50 D) + Remaining thickness High Resilience Foam (32 D) Cool fit and memory foam, Both foam's layers remain same in all thickness even it's 5", 6" or 8". Only HR foam, we customise as per your required thickness.
Well, I am not going metric on you, so apples to apples. We have lost very large store in our city. This forces us online and I have found many do not list density. If the did, would it be the industry standard of 1 cubic foot? I have foam up to 4 inches thick on hand. Without industry equipment, being creative, I would could weigh a cubic foot, but “IFD” would be more open to interpretation. Using the same thickness and the same weight, could I measure the 1 inch deflection to pass judgment on a given foam. This all salvaged foam from large new seats, kept in black bags to keep sunlight off. It can yellow due to “UV” light and turn into dead foam from use and prolonged “UV” exposure. Is this correct? Novice, forced retirement and automotive Master Tech doing my own seats, console and door panels. Thanks for you info. It “Does” help, me!
Great tutorial! But I need help! If we compress a 4" high density foam mattress [not latex or memory foam], what foam type is best used for storage up to 6 months that will rebound back to its original shape?
I don't know why this suddenly showed up in my feed, but I have been wanting this information for close to two years now. Thank you.
this was one of the best information I have ever seen. I am replacing sofa cushions and now I know what to look for. Thank you so much..
This is my fourth video on foams and finally the information is useful and provided the guidance I was looking for. Thank you! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I am replacing the cushions on my sofa. This is what I needed. You are the best.. Thank you, Thank
you!!!
Thank you for the great video, nice to have foam explained and what goes where, will make my chair seat foam selection much easier now.
Excellent information. I think I have to watch it several times to really have it sink in, but you seem to have it down. Great job--you seem to be a natural!
Im on my 5th video and finally someone who knows how to explain Foam density applications... Thank you
Finally, a foam video that makes sense.
WOW! Exactly what I needed to know. Best tutorial on foam that I’ve found. Thanks!
Awesome info, working on rebuilding the bench seat in a 46 gmc truck, thinking of adding a thin layer of memory foam on the seat bottom
Thank you, it's the best information to understand foam properties and how I select it correctly
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for making this video, really helped me decide how to restuff my worn out sofa and chair

Thank you very much for the great explanation. You did a wonderful job.❤
Best video on the topic hands down! Congratulations!
This is an awesome video. What would you suggest for Extra Firm I just wish the sellers would put into title, Soft, Medium Firm, Firm, Extra foam for us laments. This would make so much easier for us to order.
Loved the way you covered the foam. Do you have a video on how to make a lining for the cushion as well as the cushion cover
Thanks for watching. We do not have a video on that subject at this time.
You're incredible. I love your in depth tutorials.
Glad you like them!
What about to sleep on? Such as a couch. Would the firmness be too stiff? whats its comparison to a bed?
Thank you! Do you have a video about down and feather products?
Thanks for watching. We do not have a video on that subject at this time.

You shouldn't go rolling up a memory foam mattress 🤦🏾♂️ once it is originally rolled out leave it like that 👍🏾
you had me at The Princess Bride!! even an R.O.U.S!!!!
Very informative, thank you.
I had a lot of trouble as a mattress consumer to find this information because mattress companies dont explain these stuff.
so helpful
Great info! Thankyou.

I swear... women just never fail being BETTER at explaining things.. period... full stop.
Great info, but some day the U.S. will have to move past medieval inches and pounds and onto the metric system will the rest of the planet.
Excellent information!! Thanks!
