  • Here is a demo of custom rack setup deigned for client to emulate Edward Van Halen's tones thru the years. It was mainly designed to be used at lower volumes for home use. Used in the clips is a Suhr SL68 Plexi clone with Mustard Caps and Sylvania 6CA7 power tubes running clean in the low power variac setting.
    The Dry is feeding a Kerry Wright 4x12 with 70's 25 Watt Celestion Blackbacks and a 2x12 with JBL D-120's-used for just the first two albums. Running in front of the amp is Vintage MXR Micro Flanger---Vintage Script MXR Phase 90----Maestro EP-3 Echoplex----Boss GE-10---Roland DC-30. All the gain is coming from the XTS Atomic Overdrive. The wet stereo post amp is: Eventide Pitchfactor----2 Roland SDE-3000---Lexicon PCM-60----HHV800 power amp feeding two 4x12's with Greenbacks in stereo.
    Thanks my my friend Jay Gore for his killer Van Halen chops. His guitars used in the clip are a Charvel with a EVH Frankenstein pickup. A Ernie Ball EVH Model with stock pickups. A Custom Ash Strat with a Seymour Duncan 78. A Fender 5150 Series with stock pickups.

    Awesome as always Dave. Authenticity comments aside. I'm amazed at how good everything sounds and how quiet the rig is. Not easy with some of those older units. The cable work is phenomenal!

    Apart from my amp gain opinion, the effects, cable routings, patches, attention to detail is EXCEPTIONAL, as anticipated. A performing guitarist would find money well spent with your rack and rig design!

    Hi, sounds amazing. I'm not sure if you've answered this in a previous video but what was the reasoning for the Roland DC-30 being used instead of the EVH Chorus from MXR? Thanks!

    • @RACKDOCTOR
      @RACKDOCTOR  3 года назад +1

      Thanks. Because Eddie used the DC-30 on Diver Down and the 1982 tour. www.premierguitar.com/Stream/StreamImage.aspx?Image_ID=B47721D7-675B-4CDC-AC8A-5F53FF65844F&Image_Type=image

      @@RACKDOCTOR Of course, but I thought the EVH chorus was based on the DC-30. Just asking cause I think I remember seeing the Eventide Pitchfactor in there as well to replace the H3000.

    • @RACKDOCTOR
      @RACKDOCTOR  3 года назад

      @@mickeymcconnell3011 The EVH is nice, But it does not sound like a DC-30. H3000's are expensive these days and problematic , so the Pitchfactor was an easier alternative.

    Running a Plexi clone with 6Ca7's [clean]...All gain from XTS Atomic Overdrive? This is contrary to get that special sound. Too bad the 6Ca7's won't be pushed... the output tube distortion is the magic... I won't hold my breath on this one.. Otherwise I am certain the rig layout will be exceptional! It would be neat to hear a pushed Plexi through load, to go to effects..like Edward did.

    • @RACKDOCTOR
      @RACKDOCTOR  3 года назад +5

      It can run that way or with any master vol amp.The rig was designed to get the sounds at low vol for home use as well. You can also turn the amp up with a variac and blow away the neighbors and yourself. That would be a another video. :)

    • @erictripton
      @erictripton 3 года назад

      @@RACKDOCTOR No I got it the first time LOL, I hope we agree that relying on output tube gain is very different from relying on a pedal.
      God created the reactive load box for lower volume application..of course you know this.
      Turn up with a variac, really? Center tap on that Suhr is probably 120vac..thats where it should run or lower. Cranking above 130-140vac is pretty dumb, especially when the filter capacitors blow up to smithereens.
      Honestly, I would love to see your design if/ever a client wants to blast the amp, then use load box for line level, out to 'whatever in the fridge' then to power amps.
      Now THAT would be cool. Just my subjective opinion. Nothing beats blasting an old Super Lead JMP circuit

    • @RACKDOCTOR
      @RACKDOCTOR  3 года назад +3

      @@erictripton I meant turn the amp while using the variac. The best scenario is to use a master vol Marshall slaved thru the rig.

    • @erictripton
      @erictripton 3 года назад

      @@RACKDOCTOR Might you mean a Marshall 'non' master volume? Like that Suhr SL is designed like?

    • @RACKDOCTOR
      @RACKDOCTOR  3 года назад +3

      @@erictripton On a side note. It is extremely difficult to emulate a Marshall 68 Super Lead, Soldano SLO, 5150 all with one amp platform. Thus I used a pedal with an flexible EQ to be able to dial different amps tones using one clean platform.
