- I remember what it was like when I was walking into a hospital for my first shift as a new nurse. It was intimidating and I wish someone had made a video about what to expect. So I thought I would make the video I always wanted on what it's like to be a new nurse. I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Kati. I'm starting my nursing degree at uni (Australia) next year. I am nearly 47 and actually started my degree when I was 18 but dropped out as I was not mature enough and overwhelmed by lots going on at the time.
Your videos and podcasts are not only a phenomenal teaching tool but also give confidence and reassurance to those of us who are still unsure and frankly petrified about becoming a nurse.
I can't wait to have you along on my journey.
Thank you for all you do.
Ah, wow this comment is so kind and thoughtful. Thank you so much for sharing :-) I'm so glad this is resonating!
I graduate this spring and am beginning to feel the panic of actually hitting the floor as a nurse. This was so helpful! Thank you!
Thank you for saying this! I'm in my 3rd week in the Respiratory ICU as a new grad and can relate to these feelings! So overwhelming and feeling like I'll never be able to get all of the tasks done on time.
Thanks Kati! I have been feeling very overwhelmed as a new nurse. Your words were very encouraging and inspiring.
I am glad you made this video because it reminds people of what RN is
I just got hired! fresh grad RPn in Ontario . and here I am trying to decrease my anxiety hitting a medicine unit right after school 😅😵😰
Excellent analogy!! Thank you!
Wonderful videos I just subscribed
Your advices are so real and great!!!!. Thank you
I appreciate your content so much! I’m finishing up my 2nd semester of nursing school, & clinicals can be truly intimidating if you allow yourself to compare how much you don’t know to how much the nurses know. I love that you reminded us to focus on “Am I better nurse now that I was before this shift began?” I will take that with me as I continue this rewarding journey. I’ve subscribed to your channel and shares you with my study group. I look forward to more words of wisdom from you. Thank you for your help! Best wishes as you continue your journey!
Great Video!
I really think I would enjoy the patient advocate aspect of nursing I’m just nervous I wouldn’t be able to think fast enough in a bad situation
It is pretty great to be able to speak for someone who truly needs your help. There are roles in which the level of urgency isn't as intense. For example, the ICU requires very time sensitive interventions in which you'd need to push back on things. The med-surg world isn't as intense, but still has instances. There are also roles like case management where you're advocating for placement and services for patients as well, which would be business hours. Keep in mind, a lot of us take time to develop that quick thinking which comes with a foundational knowledge as a base and repeated experiences to override that fight or flight response and know what to do. I don't think this is a reason not to do nursing. I think you can enjoy this aspect of it in a variety of ways!
Thank you so much 😊
Subbed, you seem like a great person
hey thanks!
She has a sense of humor, "she had man hands". I already love her. First semester nursing student. Any info helps especially since I have no medical experience.
This was really helpful Kati, thank you!

Nurses have a very difficult job, how do you guys deprive sleep and still clearly focus and juggle all the patient information and procedures in your head? I was observing the chemo therapy nurses at Sloan Kettering, and they have to keep so much in their head. I would lose it all from my sleep issues, and coffee not helping, but I’m more in the complimentary therapy. I do physical therapy assisting
