I disagree. DKCR sold over 4 million in its lifetime; the problem with Tropical Freeze is that the Wii U didn't sell too well, so while TF broke the 1 million mark the install base is a lot smaller than the SNES and Wii.

I know right?! cHapeened a lot to me in this level! I wanted to hear it all... They should've made so, if you die, the music starts like in the guitar part, instead of repeating it all. Kinda like they did with the music of SM3DW.

I just freaking love this theme... You play the level, you hear the music, you see how ruined Donkey Kong Island is by all of the ice, the island, that once was so colorful and happy... But the music somehow tells you, there's still a hope, you can do it! You can save the island from those vikings! I gotta say, this music is one of the most dark, emotional, beautiful, and lonely tunes I've heard in the DKC series, or maybe even in my life. The music still have the "There's a hope" feeling in it. I cried when I played this level... World 6 definitely has some of the best music in the entire game. You know, I never felt...sad when playing a 2D platformer before. I felt tons of emotions: fear, excitement, courage, anger, happiness and frustration when playing sidescrollers. I've been amazed, but never have I felt remorseful until I played this level. I loved the beach area in DKCR, and seeing it turned into this was...upsetting. As I walked through the level, I was genuinely mournful of what happened to the island, and this track really illustrated my sadness for the kongs, and I never thought I'd feel that in a sidescroller I really loved. I wanted to put my arm over the kongs' shoulders and promise them that we'd get their home back, that the Snowmads would pay, and that we wouldn't let anyone else get away with an injustice like this.
I never felt sad in a sidescroller before, but this game changed that, and this is one of the many things I love about it.

I think, for me, at least, the absolute best part of this soundtrack is that I thought Wise couldn't replicate the DKC SNES essence from back in the 90s. I thought it was going to be riding on the coat tails of the old tracks, and that it was just gonna be another shameless cash-in to get a recognizable name from back in the day.
This soundtrack definitely shut me up on that notion.

Is ironic that you say that, 'cause i keep seeing people in other videos trying to find references to the original songs, when they aren't there. Like Wing Ding is supposedly based of Jungle Jitter from DKC3 GBA, or Busted Bayou is supposedly Hot Head Bop, so it's either i don't hear them, or they aren't there and people are just trying to find nostalgia in the songs just for the sake of it, when it isn't needed because the songs are already pretty awesome

      @100organicfreshmemes5 9 лет назад +5

Duskool I agree completely, they don't want to accept there's better things than their childhood but Tropical Freeze is undeniably amazing, so they treat the music like it's referencing older DK songs so as to make it seem like the game is feeding off the original triology to attain the level of quality it has.
I've encountered multiple people who say the original trio is better for literally no reason, because they grew up with those games.

That was just one example, they also use a lot of old gimmicks from previous Mario titles i.e the flip platforms, switch platforms and beat blocks. A lot of stuff is re used from previous Mario games, and it just feels rehashed. They couldn't even resist re-using Bowser's car battle for World Castle. The fake out was so obvious it hurt, and then the final boss wasn't a boss to begin with, but a chase scene. So many things about this game annoy me.

      @AuraScar 9 лет назад +6

C-Threep Yeah for me a good video games will bring me back to the times i played it, even very particular days and to the things i did those days. Going to my grandmothers house after school to play DKC/ Super Mario World/ or Mario kart 64 with cousins when i was younger on the marble tile floor, finishing my one page hw assignments quickly on the car ride so i could have more play time when i got there. Me and my cousins would usually drop the controllers when we heard the ice cream truck coming down the street, and later wed play outside and get dirty and all that jazz, then go back in to play more games. And then later on in middle/high school friends would come over after school to play smash bros melee/double dash, and then wed go swimming or play basketball at our school then come back to play more smash. We even played smash hours before the day of graduation. Playing tropical freeze this past summer on hot nights with all the windows open, binging on snacks, and going out to feel the crisp night air/absorbing the cool dark sky after beating a tough level. Those are just mere, generalized examples of my experiences, but when you really get into a game, sometimes it brings you back to the days where you had little to no or even a lot of responsibility, back to the good times and the better ones ~ the good ol days as you well put. Great songs like this one from other games really animate my some of my memorable past experiences when i think back on them.

This song perfectly encapsulates what the Kongs must've felt after returning to their home in ruins. The unease of coming back to a home completely frozen over. The sadness of seeing all the familiar structures and landscapes laid to ruin by the Snowmads. And the determination to take it all back, out of their icy grip. That's what I think of when I hear this gorgeous composition.

Whenever I first heard this song, tears fell from my eyes. It wasn't nostalgia, as I have yet to play the original Donkey Kong Country games. It wasn't the characters that gave me this feeling. It wasn't an awe-inspiring story.
So what was it? How could just a song and a song alone make me feel this way? Is this the power of a true musician?

      it is a story
sometimes when people mention stories, they are talking about plots. characters in games doing lots of things, exchanging dialogue and changing the circumstances around them
      there is no plot here
      but its telling a story
dk island has been ruined, and the sole inhabitors are coming back to their home to find it in a sorried state

This game has almost zero plot. One short cutscene at the beginning is all we get story-wise. The rest of the story, the game tells solely through the visuals, gameplay, and music.
These arent just platforming levels. They feel like locations. Steps in a journey to return home and take it back from the snowmads.

I gotta say, I usually play games with Podcasts or RUclips videos in the background, but when I reached this level minutes ago, it was perhaps the only time in which I've felt compelled to just pause the video, turn up the TV and listen to this incredible song. It's so beautiful, and like many others have said has a sense of both hope and despair. Hearing this remarkable track while watching DK pulling shipwrecks out of the ocean, clearly determined and driven to save his home, it's..it's beautiful, man. It goes to show how many ways games can tell stories. Even when there's no dialogue or background narrative, no deep lore or codex entries/journals for added depth...Hell, even when the game is about a bunch of Apes..emotion can be driven out of the player all the same. This game is amazing, and this track is beautiful. Bravo, David Wise. Bravo.

When I hear this I think of a tragic scene, a song of sorrow. the casualties of a pointless war, the carnage of a losing battle, hundreds of beautiful lives and their stories ending abruptly all around in slow motion. All meaningless sacrifices... or perhaps not.
A song of hope, of somber determination, of quiet pride, a willingness to fight another day for what you believe in and what your fallen comrades believed in...
What I'm trying to say is it's amazing! It could feel right at home in a similar dramatic and thought provoking movie or video game situation.
And it's playing here... as a gorilla in a tie fights a whole load of penguins in the name of his precious bananas, of which he's probably collected plenty already from the previous levels in the game so whats his problem!?

I would love to Dixie Kong, K. Rool, or both to be in the game, cuz they deserve it. And then there's the music. Their is such versatility in the levels from Donkey Kong, and there's so much amazing tracks to choose from. I still really wanted Scorch n' Torch to be on the Kongo Jungle stage, but no. I really hope something happens in the future to improve this. (OK rant over)

We also need metroid rep, like its sad that the two metroid characters are both Samus.

    Verse 1
    This land was our home
    Now slumbers in ice
    Hear the wind blow
    Good life left behind
    Verse 2
    Covered by the snow
    Let fate decide
    Will we defeat
Or have to say good bye?
    Verse 3
We will, we will fight on!
    This frigid trail
    For the slightest hope
    We prevail!
    Verse 4
    Barrels and bananas
    Still litter our path
    Brings out within us
    Our unbroken spirit and wrath
    Verse 5
    Trust in each other
At each others backs strength as a bunch
    We'll retake our home
    Shore War shall pass!

The animals that starved when the plants they relied on were destroyed by blizzards, the annihilated habitats, the mass extinctions of animals who were never meant to face cold weather. The ecosystems crippled by a dramatic climate change; how the soil and plantlife may never recover, and the heartbreak the Kongs suffered when they returned.

If Nintendo gets rid of these videos without giving us a proper soundtrack I will be very sad and upset.

Every single song was good, it’s so hard to compare. Instead of comparing, I like to enjoy them all

Easily the most beautiful song in the game. Hell, even more peaceful than the Stickerbush mix he put in.
    Relaxing and just brilliant.

This is exactly the kind of song I'd imagine to exist when turning on this soundtrack. It brings something familiar and brings something new. The ambiance really reminds me of something I'd hear from the original series. Amazing song.

Una música que cuenta una historia sin que te des cuenta, la historia de tu vida. Has jugado al mejor plataformas de la historia y tú ahí mirando tu vida pasar junto a él.

My god! This is great. It sounds kind of cliche in tune I think, or just sounds very familiar to some hans zimmer track, but its still really nice.
