It really gives the idea to swim
That is the remains of Hoffman Quarry which had large lime burning kiln. As a child I lived on the main road and went to school on Grinlow Road just above where you turn for the industrial estate. The Air Ministry built a large underground weapon storage bunker which in later years became a Mushroom Farm. At the other end of Grinlow Road towards Axe Edge is another Quarry called Ladmanlow which is now The Caravan and Motorhome club site.

@@paulcomptonpdphotography It is just full of burnt lime, on the in the dip there is a cottage and the stream was always bright blue! My Grandad worked up at the Airministry and he would get a big lump of burnt lime and take it home wrapped in newspaper. He would put in a bucket and fill it with water and it would erupt. He then used it to whitewash his outside loo and coal house. Google Hoffman quarry and yo will see photos of the huge kiln and chimney

Think the colour comes from the lime dissolving from the limestone in the area certainly would push the Ph level up, shipwreck beach in Zante is the same but that colours the sea.

Needs a good dose of acid to neutralise. It is noticeable the pool does not have a shore line, the water level is stable. So water must leak out when it rains and there must be a water supply when dry? One of these pools breached its dam some years ago and turned the Derwent river blue green to the Trent.

For a location you first thought you might get a phone snap, you got some great shots with the camera mate. It amazes me the stupiditiy of people out there who would think it's ok to swim in something that toxic, madness.

That car part number seems to point to a Vauxhall.

pH 1.4 is acidic, not alkaline. The pH scale goes from 1 to 14, with 1 being highly acidic, 14 being highly basic/alkaline. O level chemistry.

There is a Lake in Guadelest in Spain which is the same colour I wonder if the water is as toxic as this one? I must start doing a bit of research, thank you for showing us around it....

I seem to remember (dredging my memory from over 30 years ago) one like this down near Winchester I saw from a road above it. Anyone know where ? I think it had something to do with the china clay industry.
