Check out a renovation channel on here, the woman's name is Paula McDonald ruclips.net/user/pmddllcvideos She renovates pre-war NYC apartments, and I got a lot of small tips from her that are sensible and affordable, little things like soft close cabinets and closet lights. She respects the buildings and and those pre-war details. Narrow doorways, really old pipes, and radiators--she explains how to deal with those kind of challenges. Plus she is a classic NY chick, totally unpretentious, no nonsense. I'm down south now in a 1930s building and am re-doing my bathroom starting this weekend, and I must've watched every single video she has up trying to get my space back to what it was when it was new. But if I had bought that brownstone on 137th street back in 1987, well I'd be sitting on a pile of money today! lol

Athena Calderone has exquisite taste. But can someone tell me why marble on a kitchen counter?!? Sure it's gorgeous. For about 6 months. Few contractors or stone manufacturers will endorse marble in a kitchen. It's porous, it chips, it stains, it cracks, it's heat intolerant. And it's kind of infuriating because as a style guru, following her lead might end up being a 30K (plus!) mistake I'm not sure many could afford. Otherwise, her house is definitely swoon worthy.
