    Without exaggeration, I currently watch about 5 hours of Netflix per year. So, if part of the reason they made this move is to get more eyes on their service, it will work on me. I do expect commercials. But, I’m sure they’ll be shorter than we currently get. As far as show length, I don’t think they should be handcuffed by a specific time frame. Make the show at least 2 hours a week but let it go as long as it needs to be from there. In other words, it may be 135 minutes one week and then 150 minutes the next week, etc….

    I discontinued my Netflix after I'd seen everything I wanted to, gotten a copy of the things I wanted to rewatch, and Netflix hasn't acquired anything worth signing back up for (or could watch for free elsewhere).
    I imagine the first concern is that there aren't commercial breaks. Not a problem for WWE since they often take a commercial break during a match or have a long entrance that starts before a commercial and the next entrance happens after the commercials.
    However, are WWE going to stat-track by hours for segments, or have awkward timing measure from match to match as a segment? Probably part of the Netflix deal details, but there has to be some way WWE is able to take snapshots of viewership to show Netflix they're bringing eyes to the platform, either by portion of a show or the whole show (which would be best valued by the last hour while the time prior to the main event is just fluff to give people time to tune in, tbh).
    The big benefit to fans is not knowing exactly how much time is left watching the show because it ends at the top of the hour, so the finish must be around the corner at xx:55 pm. Is it going to kill the independent contractors (wrestlers) or WWE as a business to go over by 5-10 minutes? No. But do they want to have their finance department nickel and dimed for the contracted overtime for camera crew, tech, etc etc that add up to thousands of paycheck adjustments every week (or calculated however frequent the paycheck, likely bi-weekly or monthly)? Undoubtedly not.
    We, the fans, might get extra time the first few weeks or months, but like any fast food restaurant that opens a new location, they over-provide for a short while before reducing service provided to the bare minimum or less. Or like a casino rigging jackpot payouts on electronic machines to hit more often when they want advertising material and then reduce jackpot odds after to get people chasing a false perception of value.
    tl;dr Me being cynical about WWE's effort and expecting a honeymoon beginning before WWE becomes abusive, negligent, and taking without equal giving after a while.

    The Netflix-WWE deal will also change things for both TNA & AEW as well mainly because it presents an opportunity for both to market their product to fans who will lose access to Raw either through not being able to afford Netflix or because continuing to have a cable subscription works for them in terms of maintaining access to TNA & AEW along with Smackdown & NXT, especially AEW which still isn't available through Max (though this might change with their new TV deal).

    All of these expected changes to WWE and RAW are just assumptions... assumptions that seem to be forgetting that in January 2025 WWE RAW is moving to Netflix in only some of the world.
    In places like Australia/New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East, Europe (outside of The UK), South America - RAW will continue on it with its current providers... so they'll still need to be providing the three hours worth of content (including ads) and it will need to be appropriate content for the market.

  • @bigjoeofthe707
    @bigjoeofthe707 2 месяца назад +1

    But I do wonder this: how long before Netflix decides to not finish the 10 year contract? Netflix is notorious for ending shows after 4 seasons despite being a hit show. Some are exceptions like Stranger Things (Cobra Kai doesn’t count since the first 2 seasons were on here in the premium option) but other than that they don’t last so they can save a buck. Also Netflix hasn’t proven to be able to handle live programs all the time. Since they’re last to do so after all the others and this will be weekly. So who knows how this relationship will go

    • @michaelmooney5246
      @michaelmooney5246 2 месяца назад

      They're usually shows Netflix budgets for and produces themselves. If a show is a 'hit' and garners loads of viewers and gains traction on social media, they don't cancel it. It's why Stranger Things just keeps rolling despite the actors growing out of the roles.
      WWE is pretty much of the 'reality TV' mould that Netflix deals with in spades. They don't make it, they just pay to host it on the platform. And WWE is likely the biggest driver of subscriptions and retention they'll ever have.

    • @bigjoeofthe707

      @@michaelmooney5246 I still wonder how Netflix is late to doing live stuff. They’re the OG of streams. And Netflix has just been like behind on that

    • @michaelmooney5246
      @michaelmooney5246 2 месяца назад

      @@bigjoeofthe707 probably how the streaming business has changed. Netflix being one of the oldest had that 'box set' mentality. Everything was available for a season of a show all at once, completely away from the linear TV model and that was their Unique Selling Point. They didn't need sports or live events.
      Over time, particularly after the pandemic, subscriptions started to level off, and you could see how platforms started shifting. New shows started to be appointment TV, platforms like Amazon around then had already started working with BT Sports to host live Premier League football (in the UK at least). So Netflix were likely just waiting to see what live products fit their product best. They've probably been waiting a long time for WWE deals to expire before picking them up.

    If the Raw Netflix deal is successful. I think they will end up Smackdown, NXT , and PLE on Netflix, too.

    Horrible business decision moving WWE Raw and Ple's to Netflix. They are going to lose ton of viewers/fans, in basically forcing people to pay for Netflix membership. Streaming is not the future, exactly the opposite actually.
