I was honestly surprised when they started playing this during the Umbowl "All New" set. I'd assumed they'd played it sometime before over the years! Absolute fire. 🔥🔥🔥
wish he had thrown it in the 2nd position. those Z pickups are great in the out-of-phase positions. 2nd position is one of my favorite clean tone go-tos on mine.
Looks to be a G&L Comanche (same as Jake plays), Z-coils are a dead giveaway. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of Jake's that just doesn't see stage time.
Umph has performed some of the most legendary cover performances. One of the things I live most about them and phish is their love for busting out impeccable covers. I'll never forget seeing these guys absolutely possessing the philly crowd, at Penn's Landing with the greatest Sledgehammer cover I've ever heard!!
Seen them live over 100 times but haven't been to a show in like 10+ years (used to be on tour way long ago, went to Jam in the Dam, Caribbean Holidaze, a ton of festivals and other shows) and I'm definitely going to have to rectify that ASAP. Need to catch up on some of their material that I've not really checked out in the time since - last UM studio release album that I was really around for was right before Mantis came out, anyone have suggestions on some tracks? If it helps I love their stuff like 2x2, Bridgeless, Nothing too Fancy, Der Bluten Kat, etc.
Kris Myers is a legend, he's a classically trained jazz drummer and he has an amazing voice as well. Check out one of their covers where he sings while playing, I recommend Van Halen - Hot for Teacher
I love this song. But I have to say (and I know I’ll be blasted here) the heart and soul just wasn’t here. Mind you, the band played every note perfect. But it just doesn’t have the soul of Dire Straits. Again, before anyone kills me on this comment, yes, McGees hit it note to note, but it just goes to show the magic of a particular finger on a particular guitar string and that magic.
Needs finger guitar work to give it the Dire Straits feel. To quiet. As a bass player, I'm not loving that bass tone. Sounds tuned down as well. Not feel in the vocal performance.
Have to disagree. This is not a cover of the many great DS and MK live versions, true (and I am a big fan). But is an awesome reading of how some of us first heard it coming out of a little radio while house-painting or whatever as a summer job in college the summer of 1979, which is how I will always remember the song most fondly. And they nail it.
Jake's vocals on point
📠
it's actually a great cover for him He and Knopfler are prob similar range
Umphreys doing Sultans? Never clicked a video so fast. 🔥🔥
My thoughts exactly. I saw the short on Insta and had to search immediately.
Especially if it’s 13 mins
No doubt!!!
INDEED!
I was honestly surprised when they started playing this during the Umbowl "All New" set. I'd assumed they'd played it sometime before over the years!
Absolute fire. 🔥🔥🔥
Cover songs are the gateway drug to Umphreys McGee.
Especially when they cover umphrey's 😅
Brendan playing Jake's G&L Comanche for the first half. Back to his PRS for the back end. Cool.
wish he had thrown it in the 2nd position. those Z pickups are great in the out-of-phase positions. 2nd position is one of my favorite clean tone go-tos on mine.
I’ve always loved his PRS stays on stage with him most of the time it was cool to see him playing the G&L
Jake could be lead vocals and Bayliss could be lead guitar of nearly any other band. what an abundance of talent
My new favorite band!! I’m mad at myself for not finding them during my 61 years of life
I saw Dire Straits for free at Leicester University back in the 70's great version guys!
Brendan Bropfler
it's killer that they played it perfectly then added their own jam to the end.
Hey Cousin Jake hellow from Florida, tell mom and dad hi..you are fantastic great vocals..💦🌴😎from Larry ,,,M..
King of Covers nail it again!! 🤘
Comically underrated band.
This totally rips! Can't wait to see it in a couple weeks!!
Bayliss on a Fender? Whoa😲 Nice tone! Great tune!!
Looks to be a G&L Comanche (same as Jake plays), Z-coils are a dead giveaway. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of Jake's that just doesn't see stage time.
@@pigownzu thanks for the correction I know Jake plays G&L. Thought about that after posting. But where is the Jake blade???🎶🤣
Toan
@@Tiggler80 that's Jake's original Comanche. there's a Blade on it.
@@peaelare All Hail The Blade!!🤘🏻🎸🎶🔥

Good stuff McGee Umphrey, love the closeness to the original, it's such a classic and youz boys nailed it. Cheers to UM band
One of their best covers

This was legendary
Fantastic ❤️🔥🔥🙏🏼🤘

Awesome
Absolutely Loving This, damn, as much as that Twilight Zone at the Fillmore in Denver on New Years 2014?
Absolute heater
🔥
So Sweet. Well done UM
Can we please give some attention to the Drummer who is absolutely working his ass off in the jam section. Dude is a beast.
More importantly, his touch throughout this entire tune was absolute perfection. Never too loud or nit enough...amazing
Kris Myers is a legend, he's a classically trained jazz drummer and he has an amazing voice as well. Check out one of their covers where he sings while playing, I recommend Van Halen - Hot for Teacher
Fantastic!!
👏
This is the way
love it!
Fuck yes. That G&L looks good on Bayliss
yo this is fire

What's up with the G & L's? Not that it's a bad thing, just wonder'in.
Walk of Life deserves similar treatment.

Jake makes every cover sound better than the original ❤️🔥

Yeah. Seems real dry. It's the vocals.

Mind your business, this was dope...
Hindley Street Country Club cover puts these guys to shame and they just use 4 guys.
WHY SO TAME. ? They could have shredded with nasty intentions here. My band but boys got soft on the one in my opinion
I feel wrong saying anything. I probably am. My favorite music. First time hearing umph felf literally like ...fuck finally found music for me
Song sounds about as energetic as they look while playing it. Zzzzz…..
Do money for nothin
My cousin's kid toured with these dudes years ago. I wanted to ask him how that was, but the kid's a complete freakshow. LOLOL
The “Boston town” part was kinda gay…
BB playing Jake's strat feels so wrong. It's like he's cheating on Felicia. He came home smelling like another guitar 😂
But that tone..
