The news is officially out and Lewis Hamilton is leaving the Mercedes team and joining the Ferrari team and partnering Charles Leclerc. He is leaving the team that has made him a 7 times world champion with more race wins and pole positions than anyone else in the sports history, he is leaving behind Toto Wolff and George Russell but why, well in this video I am going to be giving out 5 reasons why Lewis Hamilton is leaving Mercedes to join Ferrari. This is huge for the future of F1 and Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Christian Horner will be paying close attention to what happens as will the rest of the F1 world.
Who will replace Lewis at Mercedes is still undecided but the next few days are going to be very exciting as we continue to build up to the start of the 2024 F1 season.

I believe the switch of the teams of Hamilton to Ferrari is even more bigger news than when Schumacher left Benetton just shows alot about how famous Lewis Hamilton really is.
I agree, main reason though is Schumacher was still in the early stages of his career whereas Hamilton is at the back end now so he become the huge star. That being said Schumacher swapped to Ferrari before I was born so I have no real idea
@@MrPulseF1 Im 40 so I would know it's that Hamilton guy always been the guy to look out for since he burst onto the F1 scene just literally like Schumacher but Lewis has always usually been the driver that puts you on your edge of your seat by his talent.

I have no idea. As rivals they had a huge amount of respect but as always with F1, when it comes to teammates. That respect can go right out of the window

Lewis is getting up there in age for an F1 driver. I think He needs a new challenge...and, why not fulfill a dream to drive a Red Car! The most famous name in motorsport. Since He came in, I respected His talents but didn't care for Him(especially His politcs). I welcome Lewis to Ferrari. There are going to be some fireworks as Leclerc is equally hungry. Grab Your popcorn!
It's going to be a lot of fun to watch Leclerc and Hamilton in the same team, I am excited for it
While it is no doubt a combo platter, I don't think any of those are the primary reason Lewis is going to Ferrari.
It likely has nothing to do with the 2024 car (Lewis is only taking his first sim runs on it today) or future competitiveness - which is impossible to predict anyway.
Lets go back to last summer. Remember how long it took for Lewis to sign his new Mercedes contract. Every week Toto would get asked "when is the deal getting done". When it was done the deal was only for 2 years (with obviously an easily invoked escape clause after just 1 year) and reportedly for less money than Lewis had been making.
Mercedes were doing a Bottas on Lewis and keeping their options open towards a post-Lewis future. Can't blame them really. Lewis however I suspect wanted a long term deal and Ferrari have given him that (and a dump truck full of money - reportedly 100 million/year) with a "multi-year deal" that also includes a full commitment to Hamilton's diversity initiatives.
Ferrari were willing to go all-in and commit long term, Mercedes were not.
On the competitiveness side I think it is 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Mercedes are on a prolonged and consistent downward slide, having lost a lot of key people to other teams in the last few years and not replacing them (IMHO) with at least comparable talent. Ferrari can obviously be quick but are lacking in some key areas as well. Of course in 2026 everyone starts over and throws all of that out the window anyway, so really I think it was a choice between a competitive team that wants him long term and one that maybe does not.
Yeah Ferrari have been willing to work with Lewis on his outside projects that and the payday is absolutely massive. There are a number of reasons that make a lot of sense, it's exciting for us

Yeah agreed, Lewis did want to go for a while. I am not sure where Sainz ends up I think it will either be Red Bull or at the Audi project
I like seinz he's a quick driver he deserves good but I'm Ferrari through and through unfortunately it's something we don't control. Come on Ferrari but more pressure for them to perform too but our luck has to change hopefully this will help.

@@MrPulseF1 I really enjoy Lewis, so I'm not happy to hear the news, but I also really enjoy George. It might be good in the long run to add focus to the car's development. It could also mean a completely new driver team by 2026, so we'll see!
There is so much scope for change in F1 at the moment and Mercedes is ready for a change up. It will be interesting to see what happens as they surely focus a little more on George this year

Interesting, I will be surprised if Lance gets replaced. Personally I see him more likely going to Red Bull or Stake F1 for the Audi project
@@MrPulseF1 I heard that Aston was interested in Albon but Williams made it difficult to get him. With Carlos now a free agent it would be a great opportunity
5 Reasons :
1. He said he'd be loyal to Mercedes, so he isn't
2. He saw the new Merc is still sh!t, so he isn't sticking around (He said it's looking good, so it isn't)
3. The seat of the 2024 Merc is still not moved back far enough
4. He wants to drive for Ferrari at least for one year before he retires
5. He knows that 8th WDC isn't going to happen so why not do that in red
In other news, two major Italian news sources claim Lewis will be swithing to Ferrari in 2024, not in 2025.
He has been loyal to Mercedes in a way, he has been a part of their family since he was like 9 through Mclaren.
Yeah may as well get the Ferrari money as well, it pays pretty well to be in red I hear.

Not a fan of LH, I want to see Charles win the Championship but the Max/RB combo will be unbeatable, at least till the new cars are out in 2026 redesign. Even then, Max is only getting better every year and will always be hard to beat. Charles by far is my favorite driver thogh.
It will be a good test for Charles. Imagine he goes against Lewis and wins, this will be massive for him

That's a fair comment to be honest. I am still scratching my head to make it fit with Ferrari supposedly building around Leclerc as well
