I used a WD 1 TB 2230 (out of an Xbox Series X). WD/Microsoft was a little overzealous and overprovisions the reserve NAND. I guess that's a good thing for longevity but means it's only really a 930 GB SSD and really 865 GB when formatted and 852 GB available after a fresh install of Steam OS. I bought it over a year ago for $100, before scalpers got to that market of course. There were so many of them on the market then.
The Steam Deck's included case works great to hold it face down while you work on it.

Couldn't justifying myself spending the extra $250 for the 512 when I'm just gonna swap out the ssd anyway. Good video!

Thanks great video. Loved it. I got moved from after Q3 to Q3 yesterday so i am hyped. I got a 512gb WD SN740 2230 from a laptop. It is a Gen 4 instead of a Gen 3 but it is retrocompatible and consumes less than the gen 3 version so thermals should be ok.

Hype, let me know how it works, one of the big questions when making this video was where can people get an ssd that works at a good price.
