And people wonder why media literacy is dead. If we keep speeding through the story then we won’t relate to the characters that the story is about. You missed the key point of the funeral and want to just focus on the “cool lore bits”. In reality there are going to be slow days in your life, there will be bad days, happy days, life changing days, etc. But the take away is: don’t rush through life.
Don’t like that we all can’t handle “filler” episodes when older cartoons were nothing but “filler”! They are still remembered today because we fell in love with the characters, not the storyline. If we didn’t get slower episodes it will be rushed just like Hazbin was! That why this episode was character focused. We get to be with the characters.
I honestly cried in this episode because I felt seen because yeah people do feel like they’re nothing in this world. It hit harder at the funeral scene because you realize that people do care about you even if you don’t always see it.
Media literacy and literacy might be still around, but people’s ability to actually appreciate and understand is was really is dying.

I’m starting to think fans expect way too much too soon, I mean we’re only 2 episodes in and already it seems nearly everyone is seeing issues in every frame of the show, not just here on RUclips but social media as well, now I’m not saying we can’t be critical, far from it, but I’m noticing this new fandom pattern where anything that’s not explained in full in depth and deep complex detail every 3 seconds is “filler” or just a flaw in general.
Characters can just hang out and simply do whatever until the important stuff eventually happens, I hope people realize that, but no, apparently the important stuff has to happen every time a character speaks, and even still, I wouldn’t even call this episode filler because the whole point of the show is that they’re stuck in a circus and go on adventures, that’s exactly what they did in this episode, so why some fans are calling it filler is beyond me but criticism of any show/comic/movie at this point is just petty gripes if anything and not legitimate.
Call me simple minded but I’m just here for the ride, whatever a show does it does.

This show has many issues. It is poorly written, Pomni’s VA was not on point for a lot this (It sounds like she was reading off of a script), The pacing is WAY too fast, tonal shifts are never signalled, exposition is everywhere without being established, the camera uses too many wide shots so we don't even know what are supposed to be focusing on, it tells us information without showing it, the plot feels like it was written by a child, there are narrative inconsistencies and continuity errors, the Soundtrack was good but misused, and overall tried way too hard to fit into a genre it won't fit into.
I'm sorry for wanting better shows…
It's not that media literacy is dead.
It's the fact that people have just completely forgotten the basics of writing good stories…

Your comment is kind of proving the "media literacy is dead" point correct imo. It's meant to be a fun, breezy and imaginative indie animation project with some emotional themes. Feel like you're catastrophizing the magnitude and degree of "fault" in this product. There's a ton to enjoy here. Kinda disagree with almost all your takes, or at least think they're extremely exaggerated and sensationalized.
Edit: To head this off at the pass, I'm not asserting that Digital Circus is perfect at all. But what I am saying is that it's *fine* and neat. It's ok if it's just a neat, creative show

I’m kinda upset I haven’t seen anyone talking about the coolest part about the writing in this episode. That being how the genuine connection and the subsequent distruction of that connection between gumigoo and Pomni gives so much weight to kaufmo’s funeral. The large section of the episode focusing solely on gumigoo gives us as an audience a chance to really care about him as a character. Pomni in this case sort of represents us as she is very new to the digital circus and has no connections to the main cast, we watch as she too builds a friendship with gumigoo and just like her we begin to like him. This comes to a front when Cain murders him and sends Pomni even further down her path of insanity. That could have been it for the episode but everything ties back around when zooble reveals kaufmo’s funeral. this funeral represents the loss of gumigoo while at the same time highlights that the main cast had the exact same kind of connection that Pomni and gumigoo had with kaufmo. all the characters here have just lost a friend and because we’ve just lost gumigoo, Pomni and us as an audience really feel connected to these characters. The genius of the funeral gives weight to a dead character we’ve never even seen on screen

I think the idea that the funeral was random or didn't fit the episode well completely ridiculous. If there is a theme to the episode aside from the character banter and mad max parody, that theme is death and what it means for the people who inhabit TADC. The episode starts off with Pomni having a nightmare about the looming danger of abstraction and about the apathy of her fellow colleagues, focuses on the realization of gummigoo for a large portion of the episode and ends with gummigoos death and the funeral, with pomni realizing that her colleagues do in fact care and are there to help her. I think the funeral and gummigoos death perfectly finish the episode's overarching theme of death, it shows the weight that abstraction has on everyone, deepens pomni's bond with the rest of the cast, highlights the disparity between "NPCs" and the rest of the TADC cast and also shows the clashing feelings of Pomni as a new arrival with the pre-established hopelessness of the rest of the cast when it comes to NPCs and also further cements Caine's dictatorial presence within the world of TADC, which itself gives a small bit of insight at the behaviour and personality of the character which has had the least screen time so far: Zooble, who has so far been mostly shown in her opposition of Caine's antics. Having her prepare the funeral only nails this point harder, making the ending pretty much the most defining moment for Zooble's character.

What’s wrong with “filler” episodes? Those episodes help us learn about the characters and not speed through the whole story. We didn’t get any “filler” episodes with Hazbin and boom everyone felt it was rushed. Filler episodes made us want to care about characters not just the story. Old cartoons used to be nothing but “filler” episodes and we still loved them to this day because it gave us characters to relate to not just a story/plot that can be reused. Characters made the show better and the story better.

Although it is hinted he might come back, I feel like I'd rather be given more time to care about him aside from a conversation, Pomni relating to him also felt odd but that's just personal preference.
I just feel like the show is using how famous it is and how much people have seemed to love the characters already rather than taking their time to make the audience care.

I think its more that Pomni also was having an existential crisis, and all the others seemed to have gotten over their crisis already so it felt like Pomni couldn't relate to them. To her, until the funeral scene, she thought they had all gone insane and were desensitized to death with how casually someone was abstracted and thrown in the cellar, and its hard to make friends or connect in that situation. But Gummigoo was going through a very similar thing to her and reacting how you should normally react so it was much easier to relate.

    I do agree.
This show is overrated and has several glaring issues.
This show relies way too heavily on Relaying information to the audience Verbally, without backing any of it up visually.
In other words, it tells you information and then expects you to believe it because it tells it to you.
And that is not good writing. That is a speedrun on how to insult your audience's intelligence.
The second major issue is that the overall tone of everything shifts constantly but is never properly signalled as to when it happens. The audience is never made aware of when the tone of the show shifts, meaning that the audience could be interpreting a scene as being a serious narrative moment, only for those expectations to be unfairly subverted and turned into a “Haha Funny joke Moment”. This just leaves the audience confused as to what is even happening in the first place, and more importantly we don't even know why.
Third issue is that the Pacing of this show runs at such a breakneck speed it manages to make the events of what should've been 2 whole episodes, feel like it all happened in 5 minutes. Characters just appear out of nowhere with no reason as to why. Why does this random blob say the princess banished him, like he views the princess as evil, when it has never even been established that the princess would ever do such a thing. First time we meet the princess she seems like a pretty nice gal, so why did she banish this guy for doing something, we've never seen him do. Also why is the maple syrup so important? Why are we bothering to chase after it? Why does the Princess want it back? It has never been established that she can't just make more, so why are going after it? Also, how did the bandit guys steal the maple syrup in the first place? We are never shown why this is so important. Also, did they even steal it at all, because these quote, “bad guys” seem pretty ok to me? And also, what do they even want with all of this maple syrup? It's never established why they are even bothering to steal it. And also why in the freak is the princess of an entire kingdom giving some random strangers this mission? Why is Ragatha able to Magically heal herself after being impaled? Why did the Citizens already have an entire truck ready for this mission, when it wasn't even established that they even knew we were coming?
    Do you get it yet?
This is the sign of a Writer who doesn't care and treats the audience like a bunch of Little kids who will consume whatever BS is handed to them…
That is Bad Writing, and this show feels like it was written by a child

You are saying that "they insult the audience's intelligence", yet you ask all these irrelevant questions that if you paid more attention, you would have known that responding all of them would be literally useless, the entire point of these adventures they have is just to be a distraction made for the main cast while they are at the Circus, so they don't become crazy and all.
The entire plot behind the adventures and the reasons of why they happen just don't matter because it is explicitly said that all of it is fake, and completely made up by Caine, there is no reason or purpose to their mission, it is just so they can have fun for a while.
Also I think you totally forget that they are in a digital world like- does it really matter that they don't explain "Why is Ragatha able to Magically heal herself after being impaled?", when it is explained that they don't need sleep, nor eat food, and they live in a fake world... like come on! they live in a world with cartoon logic.
I tell you just to have in mind that this series is made as a passion project by a rater small indie group of animators, they are not a big company with a budget that can waste as many as they want in many episodes explaining stuff in a good phase and selling toys in mass production. No, just no, they have limits and as much as they would want to show everything slowly and calmly, they just can't. Every episode costs a lot of money and it really shows in the quality of the animation and all, and is great! but they got their limits. The only reason it is overrated is thanks to the professional look of the animation, the appealing characters, and overall style and story it tells and is funny and... well there is many reasons so maybe it is not "overrated" and more like "EnoughAmountOfLoveGivenToAProduct-rated" or smth like that. (also is fault of all these garbage youtube kids content that milked the show even when it had only a pilot episode)
But overall if you don't like it is fine, maybe you just don't like the way Gooseworx writes or smth, that's fair. (but like- this is just chapter 2 so- maybe you could wait a little before giving a rating?)

    • @TheAgent44WasTaken
      @TheAgent44WasTaken 4 месяца назад

@@flamingpea9949 i ask you a question, where was anything established? cause i couldn’t find it.
but you seem to be misunderstanding the fact that i am referring to a type of Cinematography that is known for its tendency to devalue its audiences intellect, broadly speaking. now granted The Amazing Digital Circus is not the worst of this style of cinematography. But this style of filmmaking has been associated with Studio Executives and Reshoots for a reason. it is most prevalently found in Forms of Media that rushed or undergoing a development crisis. Studios use the solution, of front loading the content with Exposition and never back it up by establishing anything or showing any of it. at its worst this is a form of cinematography that devalues its audience and treats them like children, rather than maintaining a trust between the audience and the artists. Well written stories, are able to trust that the audience is smart enough to come to their own conclusions.
no one likes being told what to do, so it’s understandable why so many people i’ve talked to don’t like this show, it’s telling us how we should respond to something, instead of trusting the audiences intuition. While TADC is not the most insulting example of this, as it has beautiful animation and interesting character dynamics to keep you occupied, they only serve to distract you from how the plot is about to fall apart at the seams. The Four major elements of plot are just missing. The Agency, The Stakes, The Urgency, And The Action.
      1: There is No Agency
characters in this are Passive characters, their actions and choices do not directly affect the narrative, Caine already has a destination in mind for them to go in, and they cannot change that for anything.
They are just along for the ride, they are being driven BY the plot, rather than the plot driving the characters.
We don’t get any character defining moments from any character other than Pomni, and even that doesn’t amount to anything lasting.
      2: The Stakes
There are no current established stakes. We have no reason to care about the characters completing their mission. What is the Consequence if they fail? we simply don’t know, because there isn’t one. we know abstraction is a thing, but it’s never been established exactly how it works, or what it even does
      3: Urgency
there is absolutely no urgency in this entire “Story” because most of our characters have been here for a not established amount of time. We don’t know how urgent this situation is, let alone if it is even urgent at all, or if it is even a situation we need to get out of, or if we even can.
      4:The Action.
Because of the Void of Stakes and urgency, this means that No character has any personal goals that push the plot forward in any meaningful way. These characters have no real stakes in the situation themselves, so as a result all of the “Action” we see is meaningless noise devoid of defining character moments that force our characters to make choices that push the plot forward with meaningful emotional value behind them.
I genuinely want this show to be something great, but it is painfully obvious to me, that Gooseworx needs someone else to write this show for her, because she doesn’t understand the basics of writing and storytelling, and she NEEDS someone else to help her.
