I’ve seen loads of people doing weird or gross stuff in public, yet I’ve never had the urge to record it and post it online. My main thought is I would never want someone filming something embarrassing I did and posting it on the internet.

AWE man I love this story about the man on the train. I have so much empathy than most people and I am sooo happy you said what you said and that you rethought your retweet. You are a hero standing up for those who cant stand up for themselves. Kindness goes a long way.
Not only that, Casey, the man shaving on the subway had already had TWO STROKES previously. That’s trauma to the brain of a homeless man who has had a rough life. Cold hearted people make fun of him.

On Ouchs Wow, you don’t get it. He is charging $30 for this T SHIRT. His other shirt is “on sale” for $19.95. So he is charging $10 more for a shirt (that at 19.95 he is already presumably making money on) and donating only $4. That sounds more like a scam than “an amazing heart”. It seems no matter what Casey does, he must be awesome.

It’s the same situation with the Geoffrey Owen’s story… on the one hand, people simply don’t think of the consequences of putting something online, thrusting into the limelight someone who may not want to be thrust into the limelight. And they justify it by him being a “public space”, as though that somehow justifies objectifying another human being. The other more cynical side of social media has conditioned people to view other people as a tools for the currency of internet points. Views... tweet... likes... hearts... people justify objectifying others so they can get that rush of going viral, making the front page of Reddit. It’s depressing. I don’t think it’s any different than it has ever been, it’s just more amplified given the pervasive nature of social media. It’s a good message. People should really appreciate that there are real humans behind exploitation for silly Internet points.

I only meant to highlight the fact that people don’t necessarily think twice before posting it to the web... And we all giggle at things that we know we probably shouldn’t giggle at… It’s the leap from giggling to ourselves, to posting it on the Internet so that the entire world can giggle that is one that should cause some pause and reflection :-)

Our society and the internet as a whole loves to point and laugh. I’m glad Casey brought this up. Hopefully it will make people think twice the next time they see someone being ridiculed.
That story is a perfect example of how you can never truly know what someone is going through until you get to know them. It’s not wise to assume something about someone you don’t know. That alone has led to many of the social issues that we all deal with today. And contrary to popular belief, those issues negatively affect all of us. When you perpetuate ignorance and hate, we all lose.
Amazing to see how you just allways stay in that humble rythm, I have to watch motivational videos every morning, or I'll fall back into watching youtube all day and not doing anything for school

Thanks for bringing attention to the subway incident. We just used that incident of the homeless man shaving in the subway in Social Psychology class today. Talked about the fundamental attribution error where we, as humans, often attribute most things to a persons internal behaviour and not to the external situation. Essentially, we need to learn to think about the situation and stop judging peoples actions without considering the situation. Easier said than done but we'll work on it, I hope.

the story about the man shaving is so sad. i can never bring myself to just record anyone in public tbh. especially if i don't know how it can effect them if i post it anywhere. i've read stories from real ppl who went viral or became a popular meme and they talked about how it ruined their lives or career..not everyone can handle that type of thing but people these days don't think they just record and post.
I’ve never watched Casey much, but seeing him use his platform for such incredible positivity made me gain so much respect for him. He gets a lot of well deserved credit for his quality, it he doesn’t get even close to enough credit for his character.
Casey, I’ve watched your channel for over a year. I am a 3rd grade teacher who just handled a class issue of bullying and gossip. I saw this vid, showed the part about you NOT retweeting the viral vid. My class now started today on a negative note and one of my kids said “don’t retweet!” Everyone is now saying this phrase when they hear anything negative or mean! I had a few guest kiddos in my class as well and as soon as they learned this phrase they were on board! WOW I’m thrilled that those few minutes of your message rang true to 44 3rd graders!
