From the Fokker Factory, the main wings were sealed with clear dope over bleached linen then streaked with a green tinted dope on the upper surfaces at an angle of 10 to 15 degrees from the chord of the wing. The fuselage sides were streaked vertically at 90 degrees to the thrust axis, the fuselage top and horizontal stabilizer was streaked at a 45 degree angle to the thrust axis. The underside of the fuselage and lower surfaces of the wings were clear doped to seal, allowed to dry, then had a light blue tinted dope applied over them. Metal cowlings and fairings such as the engine cowling and the sheet metal forward of the cockpit were painted Fokker Green. This was the scheme that the planes were delivered in from the factory. Once the planes were delivered to each jasta, the Jastas would paint their Jasta standard colors on the aircraft. For Example, Jasta 11, Von Richtofen's Jasta, had red engine cowlings, red struts and red wheel covers as the standard Jasta scheme. In addition to this, each pilot could paint his aircraft in whatever personal colors he decided on. Once at the squadron level, often times the white background for the crosses were over painted in Khaki paint to subdue the white fields and rudder.
