I'm pretty sure the triangular wooden areas of the front fuselage were painted with some kind of a protective coating that was a deep (hull) red. This was most likely to ensure that castor oil wouldn't soak into the wood and weaken it. I personally like the bare (or varnished) look more, but it isn't accurate.
Nice tackle of the bits, agree the sticky on belts annoying, especially since I might want to display my belts draped over rear of cpit opening. I dig the low battery chirp of the smoke detector!
