On the first day of meteorological Winter I set out for a "Hot tent camp" on the Woodlands Edge.
Heavy rain at first then a clearing sky meant I was in for a cold night but I stayed warm and snug in my shelter with my stove, giving out a good heat and the warm glow from the Hurricane lamp and a good book for company.
This was the perfect camp.
Hot tent, Stove, Hurricane lantern and a good book :)
I left the Gopro Hero 7 black running over night to record a Night lapse. It came out rather well:)

I love the time laps of stars clouds and sun rise . GOD sure makes a lot of beauty for us to enjoy . love that sun rise .....
I've watched this video a few times now. The phrase "it's a hard life in the woods" I've said numerous times when I go out camping now. Thanks for this!
Loved the timelapse Sandy! looked amazing, nice to sometime be out of the woods and see the night sky.... and a cameo from me too haha
Oh, it wasn't Simon a Bloke in The Woods then...
Your famous now Andy, now that you've appeared on The Wiltshire Mans channel:) Haa
Your beef wellington was amazing.
Great video 👍 and excellent time lapse of the night into dawn ,
great when the stars appeared on the timelapse
I'm getting into the Nightlapse scene garry
Time lapse of the night sky was awesome! That little pump is really useful.
Proper food Sandy
Spot on
The time-lapse was great :)
Really loved this video Sandy , marvellous food and enjoyed the Timelapse sky video. Thank you, we watch Andy Kent survival and Simon in the woods.
Stunning time-lapse, video n camp sandy
When Orion climbs, be prepared for a cold one lol.
Yes on a clear frosty night in the Winter there you will find Orion
Great set up & stove ,scran looked very tasty & made me feel hungry .Regular home from home ,snug as a bug in a rug 👍

Thanks, I would love to go to a Dark sky location and do a night lapse
Great video. You are living the dream 😂. Thanks again. 👍
Greetings from Northern California. For me two of the most relaxing sounds are rain on the roof and a cat purring. We are finally getting some rain now after a hot, fiery and smoky summer, it was awful. Anyway always interesting for me to see camping across the pond, thanks for the vid.
Yes I heard about the wild fires, glad you are finally getting some rain
Splendid!
Sandy love the video of your hot tent and nothing better than rain on canvas take care
Delightful; one felt as if one were sharing the tent with a good friend. :-)
Glad you enjoyed it John
Just found this lovely camping blog and that starry night timelapse is fantastic. Good health to you and keep em coming. Cheers
Excellent video Sandy 👍
Another great outing/campout Sandy. you are definitely making good use of the new stove for sure. I love Stew, so you know my sentiments on your meal. Table was a neat asset also. thanks for taking me along. 73 Sandy. HP T CUDTL OM! de Ellis WA1RKS
Table will make a great /p rig stand
Another great video, and that was the best timelaps yet!
I watched this expecting to see you roughing it, boy was i wrong. That was some luxury camp.
It was real cosy at camp Mike:)
You create a very cosy camp Sandy.
Are you familiar with the old firewood poem?
Beech logs burn bright and clear
If logs are kept for a year.
Chestnut is only good they say
If for long it's laid away.
But Ash new or ash old
Is fit for a queen with a crown of gold.
Birch and fir logs burn fast
Blaze up bright but do not last.
Elmwood burns like a churchyard mould
Even the flames are very cold.
Poplar gives a bitter smoke
Fills your eyes and makes you choke.
Applewood will scent the room with an incense like perfume.
Oaken logs if dry and old
Keeps away the winter cold.
But Ash wet or Ash dry
A king shall warm his slippers by.
Cheers.
Yes Robert thats an old one, but good to read it again:)
Home from home, Nice setup
Love a bowl of stew (Or Scouse) with a bit of pickled Red Cabbage
Yum that sounds nice
Another great vid. I take my hat off to you all who do this in winter. I’d be bored silly by 1800hrs.
I had a hot stove and a good book so all was good:)
I really enjoy your quiet and peaceful videos of you doing what you enjoy and love to do, thanks for sharing….
You’ve got a new subscriber !

The time lapse with Orion panning across the sky followed by the cloud and clearing to morning was outstanding - thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it Daxx, Fitting knife scales today and possibly leatherwork this PM
Nice one Sandy
Superb!...............just love your videos 👍👍👍
making it look so relaxed and easy at your camp with some nice warmth from the stove Sandy. So glad to see you out there. Don't know where all the wildlife goes and the birds too.
All the wildlife is all around Robert, It has the sense mostly to stay outside of our bubbles of perception
Crack’n video mate. Merry Christmas from rainy Washington State🎄🙏.
Another great video! I noticed your Charlie Noble is listing a few degrees to port but no worries.
I think you eat better in the woods than you do at home! LOL
Thankyou Mark
Love your videos Sandy such a gentleman you are.
Thankyou
Time lapse of the night sky was absolutely beautiful. Think its fair to say you enjoyed that one.
Fantastic Sandy..I loved it. Cheers Jon
Thanks Jon:)
I found the video very therapeutic to watch, great video.
Thanks John glad you enjoyed it mate
I find these camping videos so relaxing. Great to watch with a tea and a biscuit. Thanks for your efforts to bring them to us
Thanks Sam
I think to many don't realize the efficiency of a kerosene lantern. It also provides a wonderful ambience to the dark night that the modern flashlights/torches don't give to the camping experience. My fondest memories are camping with my dad , who always carried a lantern into the woods. Thanks for the nice video, sandy.
Wonderfull video and Beautiful nature. Enjoyed this video very Much. Thanks for sharing this great video
Thankyou
Wonderful film👍
good vi of you out camping keep up the good vids
Wow! Your time-lapse is one of the best I've ever seen.
Thanks Andy thats very kind of you to say
Horace Kephart had spent a lot of time in what became the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I saw one of his tents and folding candle lantern in the Mountain Heritage Center museum once. It looked similar to your pyramid tent but of lighter material. He had been a librarian in St. Louis at the turn of the century I believe and left his wife and daughters to live in the woods. Probably a lot to that story.
Yes I am quite familiar with Horace Kephart but never knew about his personal life ref wife and family:)
Great video sandy wasn't that beef Wellington and maid look nice that stove worked really well with your selection of wood food looked good mate atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Thanks Jimmy I am really enjoying the hot tenting :)
Brilliant, Sandy! What a way to live... Between you, Andy and Simon I find a way to escape from the stresses of life and unwind for a while. Thank you for sharing these adventures with us, I'm keen to get out and do some motorbike camping (if I ever get enough time off work!). Keep them coming and I'll keep watching. Cheers!
Hi Dave I too watch Andy and Simons channel, both are excellent. I'm pleased your enjoying my videos too :) Hope to be out camping again soon:)
This is epic!!thankyou
That stew looked bloody good 👍
It was a fine meal James
Another great video! I wish I was there with you. I need this kind of break! All the luck to you.
really enjoyed that video sandy with respect sandy you are doing good for sixty
Not 60 yet Allan thats a few months away:)
Very nice, can't beat a bit of hot tenting.... New subscriber...ATB Chris
Hi Chris, glad you enjoyed the video and welcome to my channel, I hope to do quite a lot of wild camping so hope you'll stay tuned:)
Thanks
Sandy
It would not be a Wiltshire Man video without Sandy’s cook ups.
LOL I need to get a bit more adventurous with the cuisine Steve :)
@@WiltshireMan it's just good to see you getting out and about............Have you done any flying recently?
Bacon sandwiches are the meaning of life. Along with beer.
Too much beer makes a man a brawler, too much bacon puts him in the cardiac unit
@@WiltshireMan 1) I have no time for violence.
2) It's the bread that makes you fat and gives you a heart attack, not the bacon.
Excellent video pal, best one yet.👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it Tony. Thankyou
Even as a vegetarian that stew looked amazing and I could almost smell it. :-)
Lovely camp 🏕, peaceful. Yr eye 👁 looking really good 👍 you been keeping them grubby fingers away ! 👍
Yes the eye is much better but it doesn't have a natural blink reflex which is a bit of a pain
@@WiltshireMan
I think you do well and manage it well! 👍
Very nice!
Made for great viewing bro, summer here yet getting mostly rain but getting 14c -17c overnight temps. Weatherman said we are getting our weather coming down from the tropics. Some areas are 10c above normal. Safe travels up your way
Lovely!
great video Sandy, liked the reference to Kent Survival.
Been following Andy's channel for years:)
Absolutely awesome video as always, Sandy... and that time-lapse night sky... that is just fantastic! I've watched that part over and over a few times! All the best! Paul
Glad you enjoyed it Paul,
I'll have to go out and get some more night lapse videos
@@WiltshireMan would love to know the setup you used for that amazing timelapse
Nothing wrong with using the lamp oil we have used Ronsinol lighter fluid for years in the Boundary Waters in Minnesota to start s fire. If you have it use it. Great video I just subscribed to your channel! Thanks and a blessed holiday season!
I'm sure I've seen you eat that white bread before... you could do better in terms of a more nutritious variety or brand. You might try something like Vogel bread. Always enjoy the videos.
I'll try and be more adventurous, the white bread is convenient. I'll check out Vogel
brilliant .
That rain on the tent, the warmth of the stove and a nice cuppa.
You're absolutely spot on, it doesn't get any better than that.
Thanks 👍Sometimes its just the simple pleasures in life that mean the most
Nice one Sandy, you certainly made that overnighter look easy. Seriously toying with the idea of getting an ironwall tent and one of those titanium stoves your sporting there.
Seasons greetings, Steve
I am very pleased with the Iron wall tent sofar Steve, it is well made
@@WiltshireMan That's encouraging thank you, How about the stove still not sure about the stove pipe construction, you made that look a doodle compared to the cut and snip Dave Canterbury version of cut and snip. The picture on the woods walker web site shows it all twisted and knarley, wondered if yours was as smooth as short pipe sections would be. Both are sitting in my wish list ready for the cart.
Great for the mind and sole. thanks for sharing.
It sure was Oz, I really enjoyed the warmth of the stove
Hello Wiltshire Man, I am fairly new to your videos, I like the way you mix them with camping & food prep then go out on your motorbike & push bike. Spent bit time down in Warminster - Tidworth when I was in Army.
Thanks for sharing.
Dave B. Thailand.
Thanks David,
Glad your enjoying the videos. I hope to be out hot tent camping soon, just waiting for the weather to become a little cooler:)
Hi Sandy. Haven’t tuned in for ages but pleasantly surprised to see your film making and post production has gone from strength to strength. I have a hankering to go winter camping now. Best regards from the Rheintal in Switzerland.
Hi Filton, glad you have tuned in, I guess as time goes by things have improved, I've certainly learned a lot about video and photography
Great video thanks for sharing I would recommend a portable carbon monoxide detector if you're hot tent camping there handy Lil gadgets 👍🏻
Yes I would agree, I will have to get one before the hot tent comes out next
Have been following your channels for many a year, forever inspired by your adventures and you as a wonderful human being, all the very best to you and your family for christmas i'll keep tuning in.
Thanks Jeffrey I appreciate your viewership:)
The time laps sequence was wonderful
Brilliant as always Sandy… nothing wrong with a good appetite as long as you Work hard and play hard mate.
Thanks for another great video, I had to laugh when I see you quickly unroll the chimney and if immediately sprang into what actually looked like a chimney now you’ve used it a few times…. I remember seeing you trying to unroll it the first time 😬🥴🙈😂 ps. Hope the Himmi is wrapped warm 😊
Hi Martyn, Himalayan went out yesterday for a ride and came back covered in salt spray, had to wash and dry and oil the bike, now back in the garage ready for the next one:)
Oh that’s good I didn’t think you would be a summer only rider 😊 iv just ordered some ACF50 for mine always something to do….😊
Another great video, you looked so snug and comfy in the tent.👍
The wood stove is working perfectly Sandy, (and brilliant that you were able to locate so close to where you could resource the wood for it.) That probably won't happen often, but, when it does, take advantage of that opportunity I say. And that little folding table that you added to your kit is an absolutely spot on great idea. What better way to bring a flat surface along with you and keep things off of the ground and dry? It also probably weighs almost nothing. Thanks for sharing another fantastic adventure with us my good friend, see you on the next one.
I shall probably camp there again in the future Terry, plenty more wood there, maybe I'll wait for some snow
Buenisimo!!
Beautiful bit of filming, Really Good. Very relaxing
Thank you.
All the Very best to you and yours - I shall be passing your house on Saturday 11th and shall be thinking of you as I pass under the footbridge and wishing you a very happy Christmas as I do so at about 0900 xXx
I know that bridge very well, walked across it 3 hours ago with my 2 dogs:)
I love your camping videos! Just subscribed. And I just purchased that same stove (my first) and am gonna buy that iron wall tent too. Looks a fantastic set up! Your stars time lapse was great too. Reminded me that were just floating around in space like idiots. 😉
Hi Micky, I love the Iron wall tent and Woods Walker stove, not too expensive either but together they work well. I hope you have many happy hot tent camps
@@WiltshireMan thanks! I love watching camping videos every evening, haven't watched TV in 2 years! .. Simon a bloke in the woods, Kent survival, Haze, Summit or nothing, Steve Wallis, Joe Robinet, etc etc.. and now Wiltshire man! .. no time for EastEnders! Hehe
Sandy I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of that video 👌 the time lapse was absolutely brilliant & now I'm bloody hungry 😉 ,, 🤣 the intro clips it sounded like ( $hit myself ) 🤭🤭👌👍
I'm loving the hot tent camping Martin, just need some snow now and it will be perfection
