His only desire is to be free from these chains and by that sword by either dying or by destroying everything and finding a vessel strong enough to break these chains. He still tries to abide by his honour but simply cannot change what he is now.

No, Ascendants can have different forms and it varies to the ritual and rite performed as you can see the warrior queen setaka was a humanoid appearance with no animalistic traits the way you see aatrox today is the same way he looked when he was ascended but less corrupted
they should make a skin for him which is his true form in this form he is the aspect of pride and is a gentle kind soul to his compratiots i think his character is by far my favourite and seeing him in his true form would be trully awesome

Next Should be a polearm. can you imagine a flexible polearm that can stretch and bend a whim. I kinda want the personality of a being that thinks by killing he is granting a blessing and a kindness, that death is a mercy that he was afforded and for his sin he is punished to a endless eternity in darkness. He says in the purity of his aspect, so that means that he must have been the aspect of war before pantheon and that is why in the Interactions he talks for the aspect and not to the vessel
Zoe has the aspect of change but it doesn’t permanently control her unlike Atreus. The Aspect of War (Pantheon) did not trust Atreus and thus he used him as a vessel. This is why Aatrox Calls Pantheon a Betrayer.
I'd like to get some more detail on what the differences are between the Ascended, and the Targonian Aspects. They seem quite similar, and they are obviously aware of eachother... What I know and what I want to know more of: 1. The Ascended came to power through the Sun Disc, while the Targonian Aspects were 'chosen' by their respective dieties. Do the Ascended also draw power from dieties, or are somehow connected to similar higher powers? 2. The surviving Ascended who faught the Icathian void are the only beings to fall in this way. Are there examples of Targonian Aspects who were corrupted by the void? Perhaps their corruption has a different effect than those of their Shuriman 'cousins'? 3. The only way we know that Darkin have been dealt with so far is by binding their, once human, now 'celestial souls' into their weapons. Could something similar be done to Targonian Aspects? 4. Mount Targon seems to be what most often connects the more mundane lore of Runeterra to the larger picture of Gods, dieties, and all consuming void. At the surface it may seem like Targon is ultimately good, but I am sure it has some darker secrets in it yet to be revealed. Perhaps the Shadow Isles will undergo a similar lore re-vamp. How cool would it be to have Mount Targon somehow related to the condition of the Shadow Isles today. 5. Where do the spirits play a role amongst this all? Beings like Kindred, Bard, Anivia, and Ornn? Right now most of their lore is just up in the air, no real solid connection to the lore of Runeterra, but there's potential for really cool developments here, particularly with Bard and Kindred. Is Bard aware of the Aspects of Targon? If a Darkin were ever to die, would they answer to Kindred? Sorry, got off topic! Oops
Two months later, I rewatched this video after reading Varus old lore, and have realized something. Varus old lore become the basis of his new lore. Just think it's really cool that they didn't scrap his old lore completely.

I use to like so much the old Aatrox and his previus lore made him more mysterius as a champ, also his dialogue's during the game way were cooler, sad that Riot didn't preserve his old kit 😢
Actually Aatrox was the first Darkin sealed (confirmed in an AMA) and the human sorcerer's hadn't quite mastered the whole art yet. Which is why Aatrox's sword is such a horrific torture device. Rhaast and Varus are pretty much just chilling in there. Varus wants to kill people for revenge for his slain kin, and Rhaast just likes slaughter a lot.
Aatrox basically got the short end of the stick, Rhaast seems to just be a conscious scythe and Varus was probably the same but Aatrox didnt even have the luxury to see or talk without a host a mind swimming in suffocating darkness for ages, its too much for any being, god, demon or not, to handle.
HypnoSkales varus and rhasst isnt out for revenge, they werent tricked and trapped into it like Aatrox was, Aatrox has revenge and his immortal part makes him suffer every second when he isnt slaying humans or other creatures!

No, the Darkin are the Targonian's worst fuckup. Aatrox specifically is probably the biggest stain they've ever left. When the void was unleashed in Icathia, Targon was nowhere to be found, presumably they thought the Ascended would take care of it and left them to it. Unfortunately, they forgot that while the body and souls of the ascended were divine, their minds were still that of mortals. After the double punch of how fucked up the void was, and losing their emperor and entire empire to Xerath's little episode, they went off the deep end, growing even more powerful by dabbling in forbidden arts, and fancying themselves as the inheritors of the world. It's important to remember that even a single wounded god-warrior (another name for the ascended) is likely powerful enough to conquer all of Runeterra on their own. It is also important to remember that a Rioter confirmed during the Aatrox AMA that while Ascended and Aspects are roughly as powerful as each other (and many of them could go toe to toe with the Freljordian gods too) the range of power within these groups differs wildly: As demonstrated by Pantheon being able to throw spears good and jump high I guess, and Zoe being able to casually bend reality whilst still being part of the same group, and Renekton being able to cut people and grow big, and Azir being capable of summoning an entire army of thousands as well as a fully grown city and sun disk of sand with a flick of his fingers. Darkin are even more powerful than the ascended, and arguably more powerful than the Targonian Aspects, as they have further empowered themselves with forbidden magics that ascended stray away from. The actual definition of a Darkin is an ascended that has augmented themselves through these magics (see: Aatrox and Rhaast's blood magic). Now, the Targonians realized 'oh shit, there are a bunch of ridiculously powerful gods wondering around wanting to rule the world, and the vast majority of them are either insane, or suffering heavily from PTSD. We should probably do something about that.' So what was their solution? Calm the Darkin down and return them to their former glory? Kill them off? Well, the Targonians were too incompetent to do option 1, and too weak to do option 2, so they instead chose to seal them away into weapons with their own power, with a minor caveat. While normally, Ascended can be killed (albeit doing so is incredibly difficult), it turns out that if you use an Ascended/Darkin's power as a conduit to seal them within their own weapon, in the process you make them absolutely and utterly immortal and invincible. It has been confirmed that even Illaoi's god Nagakaboros (which is on the same level as Aurelion Sol in terms of power) couldn't truly kill them, and she controls souls. In addition, Aatrox was the first sealed darkin (source: AMA) and they were still new to it, so they messed it up, which is why his existence within the blade is such torture. So they took an already unstable mind, made it completely indestructible, and eternally tortured it to make sure that it broke beyond repair and decided to murder everything ever. Targon made an invincible, Immortal, more powerful than gods demon that is absolutely and utterly bent on destroying everything that exists. In fact, it made five of them. Targon screwed Runeterra over big time. (as a note on the earlier point of them being too weak to kill them, Targon did in fact kill a significant amount of the Darkin, but the ones that were too powerful for them to kill they sealed away instead).

topple Zoe/or her predecessor Myisha gave Ta'anari the power to use Moonfall (Diana's E) and it obliterated 4(?) of the Darkin in the meeting and reverted Ta'anari back into human form. Aatrox is "prison desperate" and is saying whatever shit he can to incite an all out war with everything in existence. Zoe is most definitely stronger than any other ascended and aspect (Myisha didn't even have to get her hands dirty ;) taking out a couple Darkins) Diana and Leona are obviously not at full power; they have 1/2 of the same puzzle. Pantheon goes through bodies like shredded cheese idk what's up w that. Taric hasn't really done anything Sun Disc is just a discount version of the real thing. The Aspects are pretty much chosen by the gods themselves and gifted power whilst the Sun Disc tries to harness whatever energy they radiate and ASol just lols at it. "What the sun made, the moon will unmake"
diana wasn't an aspect, but simply an acolyte to the sun (solari), she only became aspect (of the moon) after she left the sun behind her as a deity what i think is strange is that it's hinted in the icathian story that there are lots of ascended shurimans, while we know that targonian aspects are rare (it's the first time there are multiple aspects*)... this should mean aspects are far stronger (storytelling reasons imply that, one god being stronger is boring)... but aatrox, merely ascended+ / evil ascended is confident to kill multiple aspects the "why be generous to mortals" is a bit overlooking of the fact that the living aspects we see are only shells to the real god behind them, they lose part of their free will for it (poor atreus, instead of becoming the god of war he was infused by it... :D) *it's stated aspects sometimes don't appear for lifetimes and never before was there more than one, implying something big is gonna happen soon edit: diana moon... so you're moon moon?

The story quite literally describes Ta'anari using the same moonfall we see in game but actually doing damage "...moonfall called down by Ta'anari" It has something to do with Diana because she's the aspect of the moon and moon powers in the hands of a non moon aspect can be powerful enough to obliterate ascendeds.

I know is far fetched but could the box in the zed story have some relation with the darkin as what zed experienced is known to be something that made him crazy and want to corupt him (maybe a weaker darkin or a pre darkin tranformation ascedand? Or maybe something left over of the darkin trying to break the seal. It seems ralated in the way that is guarded by mortals in a temple is dangerous and makes you "crazy" . It fits a the pattern for the darkin wepons and a part of the pattern on the humans who are fool enought to try and use it. We cant see zeds boody but his eyes are as well red .

Funny how the overall lore says they got PTSD. But when your read Aatrox personal lore it just said they lost something and went crazy with blood last and power because there were no more voidborn to slaughter. I love the inconsistency , I concluded that the darkin legit didn't have PTSD . And the fact that the aspect had to seal them is either saying that the darkin powers is something out of there control or they need them for future wars against the void .

they should make a skin for him which is his true form in this form he is the aspect of pride and is a gentle kind soul to his compratiots i think his character is by far my favourite and seeing him in his true form would be trully awesome

I love the image at 13:15. That means that when releasing the varus video they were already teasing us with this story, because the woman that we see in the branch is confirmed to be the golden queen warrior, which is so cool ! I actually got chills when I saw this image.
The 5 remaining darkin were the strongest of their kind and they had to be bound to their weapons since they could not be killed like the rest

Next Should be a polearm. can you imagine a flexible polearm that can stretch and bend a whim. I kinda want the personality of a being that thinks by killing he is granting a blessing and a kindness, that death is a mercy that he was afforded and for his sin he is punished to a endless eternity in darkness. He sees his killings as a path to redemption, hoping that with each being slain he will get ever closer to a true restoration of his divine form.
@@driftingwolf0 I'm pretty sure aatrox has that exact thought about his enemies, which is why he doesn't insult or belittle his enemies, he sees death as mercy and kindness. He's crazy but he's still Aatrox and he thinks what he's doing is the right thing.

What I am thinking is a being with a more of a crazed compassion to it. Thinking that killing others so he can ascend once more as a God is both a blessing and a mercy. A darkin that hasn't given up and wants his past divinity to be reclaimed no matter how many he must sacrifice to accomplish his goal.

He says in the purity of his aspect, so that means that he must have been the aspect of war before pantheon and that is why in the Interactions he talks for the aspect and not to the vessel
Zoe has the aspect of change but it doesn’t permanently control her unlike Atreus. The Aspect of War (Pantheon) did not trust Atreus and thus he used him as a vessel. This is why Aatrox Calls Pantheon a Betrayer.
I'd like to get some more detail on what the differences are between the Ascended, and the Targonian Aspects. They seem quite similar, and they are obviously aware of eachother...
What I know and what I want to know more of:
1. The Ascended came to power through the Sun Disc, while the Targonian Aspects were 'chosen' by their respective dieties. Do the Ascended also draw power from dieties, or are somehow connected to similar higher powers?
2. The surviving Ascended who faught the Icathian void are the only beings to fall in this way. Are there examples of Targonian Aspects who were corrupted by the void? Perhaps their corruption has a different effect than those of their Shuriman 'cousins'?
3. The only way we know that Darkin have been dealt with so far is by binding their, once human, now 'celestial souls' into their weapons. Could something similar be done to Targonian Aspects?
4. Mount Targon seems to be what most often connects the more mundane lore of Runeterra to the larger picture of Gods, dieties, and all consuming void. At the surface it may seem like Targon is ultimately good, but I am sure it has some darker secrets in it yet to be revealed. Perhaps the Shadow Isles will undergo a similar lore re-vamp. How cool would it be to have Mount Targon somehow related to the condition of the Shadow Isles today.
5. Where do the spirits play a role amongst this all? Beings like Kindred, Bard, Anivia, and Ornn? Right now most of their lore is just up in the air, no real solid connection to the lore of Runeterra, but there's potential for really cool developments here, particularly with Bard and Kindred. Is Bard aware of the Aspects of Targon? If a Darkin were ever to die, would they answer to Kindred?

Two months later, I rewatched this video after reading Varus old lore, and have realized something. Varus old lore become the basis of his new lore. Just think it's really cool that they didn't scrap his old lore completely.

new format is great! the simple explanations of key story points and confusing entries made the story as a whole make more sense, i think you've done a great job with this new style of lore telling

@@Domitaku they became darkin after the fall of shurima renekton was trapped with xerath so he has no recollection of the darkin even existing(and he went mad just as them) and nasus exiled himself from then onwards. They all fought in the battle against the void though.

First of all, this new model is pretty good, second aatrox history is full of sadness, no wonder why he got that personality after rework. IMO darkin arc is by far the best arch in all lore.

I think thats what Justicar is, before he was known as Darkin. Yeah, Riot made the Justicar skin before the Lore change, but wheb they probably created the new lore, they made it to match the original skin.

Actually Aatrox was the first Darkin sealed (confirmed in an AMA) and the human sorcerer's hadn't quite mastered the whole art yet. Which is why Aatrox's sword is such a horrific torture device. Rhaast and Varus are pretty much just chilling in there. Varus wants to kill people for revenge for his slain kin, and Rhaast just likes slaughter a lot.
Aatrox basically got the short end of the stick, Rhaast seems to just be a conscious scythe and Varus was probably the same but Aatrox didnt even have the luxury to see or talk without a host a mind swimming in suffocating darkness for ages, its too much for any being, god, demon or not, to handle.
HypnoSkales varus and rhasst isnt out for revenge, they werent tricked and trapped into it like Aatrox was, Aatrox has revenge and his immortal part makes him suffer every second when he isnt slaying humans or other creatures!

No, the Darkin are the Targonian's worst fuckup. Aatrox specifically is probably the biggest stain they've ever left.
When the void was unleashed in Icathia, Targon was nowhere to be found, presumably they thought the Ascended would take care of it and left them to it. Unfortunately, they forgot that while the body and souls of the ascended were divine, their minds were still that of mortals. After the double punch of how fucked up the void was, and losing their emperor and entire empire to Xerath's little episode, they went off the deep end, growing even more powerful by dabbling in forbidden arts, and fancying themselves as the inheritors of the world. It's important to remember that even a single wounded god-warrior (another name for the ascended) is likely powerful enough to conquer all of Runeterra on their own. It is also important to remember that a Rioter confirmed during the Aatrox AMA that while Ascended and Aspects are roughly as powerful as each other (and many of them could go toe to toe with the Freljordian gods too) the range of power within these groups differs wildly: As demonstrated by Pantheon being able to throw spears good and jump high I guess, and Zoe being able to casually bend reality whilst still being part of the same group, and Renekton being able to cut people and grow big, and Azir being capable of summoning an entire army of thousands as well as a fully grown city and sun disk of sand with a flick of his fingers.
Darkin are even more powerful than the ascended, and arguably more powerful than the Targonian Aspects, as they have further empowered themselves with forbidden magics that ascended stray away from. The actual definition of a Darkin is an ascended that has augmented themselves through these magics (see: Aatrox and Rhaast's blood magic).
Now, the Targonians realized 'oh shit, there are a bunch of ridiculously powerful gods wondering around wanting to rule the world, and the vast majority of them are either insane, or suffering heavily from PTSD. We should probably do something about that.'
So what was their solution? Calm the Darkin down and return them to their former glory? Kill them off?
Well, the Targonians were too incompetent to do option 1, and too weak to do option 2, so they instead chose to seal them away into weapons with their own power, with a minor caveat.
While normally, Ascended can be killed (albeit doing so is incredibly difficult), it turns out that if you use an Ascended/Darkin's power as a conduit to seal them within their own weapon, in the process you make them absolutely and utterly immortal and invincible. It has been confirmed that even Illaoi's god Nagakaboros (which is on the same level as Aurelion Sol in terms of power) couldn't truly kill them, and she controls souls. In addition, Aatrox was the first sealed darkin (source: AMA) and they were still new to it, so they messed it up, which is why his existence within the blade is such torture.
So they took an already unstable mind, made it completely indestructible, and eternally tortured it to make sure that it broke beyond repair and decided to murder everything ever.
Targon made an invincible, Immortal, more powerful than gods demon that is absolutely and utterly bent on destroying everything that exists. In fact, it made five of them.
Targon screwed Runeterra over big time.
(as a note on the earlier point of them being too weak to kill them, Targon did in fact kill a significant amount of the Darkin, but the ones that were too powerful for them to kill they sealed away instead).

Zoe/or her predecessor Myisha gave Ta'anari the power to use Moonfall (Diana's E) and it obliterated 4(?) of the Darkin in the meeting and reverted Ta'anari back into human form.
Aatrox is "prison desperate" and is saying whatever shit he can to incite an all out war with everything in existence.
Zoe is most definitely stronger than any other ascended and aspect (Myisha didn't even have to get her hands dirty ;) taking out a couple Darkins)
Diana and Leona are obviously not at full power; they have 1/2 of the same puzzle.
Pantheon goes through bodies like shredded cheese idk what's up w that.

Sun Disc is just a discount version of the real thing. The Aspects are pretty much chosen by the gods themselves and gifted power whilst the Sun Disc tries to harness whatever energy they radiate and ASol just lols at it.

diana wasn't an aspect, but simply an acolyte to the sun (solari), she only became aspect (of the moon) after she left the sun behind her as a deity
what i think is strange is that it's hinted in the icathian story that there are lots of ascended shurimans, while we know that targonian aspects are rare (it's the first time there are multiple aspects*)... this should mean aspects are far stronger (storytelling reasons imply that, one god being stronger is boring)... but aatrox, merely ascended+ / evil ascended is confident to kill multiple aspects
the "why be generous to mortals" is a bit overlooking of the fact that the living aspects we see are only shells to the real god behind them, they lose part of their free will for it (poor atreus, instead of becoming the god of war he was infused by it... :D)
*it's stated aspects sometimes don't appear for lifetimes and never before was there more than one, implying something big is gonna happen soon

I never brought gameplay into it. The story quite literally describes Ta'anari using the same moonfall we see in game but actually doing damage "...moonfall called down by Ta'anari"
It has something to do with Diana because she's the aspect of the moon and moon powers in the hands of a non moon aspect can be powerful enough to obliterate ascendeds.

It seems that Pantheon just brute forces his way in to the human body and completely takes over whilst others just give the body cosmic knowledge and power and not take over (Diana and Leona are still themselves but now have a puzzle to solve in their heads regarding their duties)

I know is far fetched but could the box in the zed story have some relation with the darkin as what zed experienced is known to be something that made him crazy and want to corupt him (maybe a weaker darkin or a pre darkin tranformation ascedand? Or maybe something left over of the darkin trying to break the seal. It seems ralated in the way that is guarded by mortals in a temple is dangerous and makes you "crazy" . It fits a the pattern for the darkin wepons and a part of the pattern on the humans who are fool enought to try and use it. We cant see zeds boody but his eyes are as well red .

Funny how the overall lore says they got PTSD. But when your read Aatrox personal lore it just said they lost something and went crazy with blood last and power because there were no more voidborn to slaughter.
I love the inconsistency , I concluded that the darkin legit didn't have PTSD .
And the fact that the aspect had to seal them is either saying that the darkin powers is something out of there control or they need them for future wars against the void .

Loved the video and appreciate the work! I think over time as you get more omforitable with the new format yourself, everything will flesh out on its own. Everything was well done, however I fell you YOU felt you were being awkward so in turn, it came off as worse than it was. Get that confidence out that you should have after making all these amazing videos and this is perfect!
