John Galliano’s Dior Boudoir Revolution (1998)

John Galliano moved to the Carrousel du Louvre ( the official location of the Paris collections) to present his second ready to wear collection for the Dior 1998.
Two vast halls were turned into an extravagant Belle Epoque mainson for the occasion, “with back projection of gilded walls and high windows overlooking manicured parkland” as Colin McDowell reported in the Sunday Times.
“The boudoir, bathroom, dining hall and billiard room were all recreated down to the last detail with antique furniture, including a rococo bed, hastily removed clothes tossed on chaises longues and rose petals floating in the bath water”
Model moved from one “room” to the next, staging tableaux vivants as the went, encouraged by the designer to give life to the particular character each had been assigned, in a mode en scene which, according to fashion historian Caroline Evans, “ recalled the wax tableaux behind glass of the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris ( the first to feature contemporary fashion) with their simulations of the luxury and extravagance of haute couture...
