  • Alfa Romeo is such an iconic Italian brand. This Giulia brings 4-door sedan versatility but in a beautiful shape. Under the hood is a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 that is producing a class leading 280HP & mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. Power gets to the ground through an AWD system. On the outside of the Giulia you will find 19in wheels, red painted calipers, carbon fiber treatment. On the inside you will find an upgraded 8.8in infotainment system, new touches, and finishes. Is the updated 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia the almost PERFECTt luxury sport sedan?

    Thanks for doing the Alfa Giulia review. You now know what I feel every time I get in and drive mine. A 2.0L turbo will never have a lot of sound and with the Alfa that is very OK. It allows you to crank up the totally superior Sound system. Nobody ever reviews the sound systems odd enough. Speaker placement in the Giulia gives the driver and passenger a real audio experience to go along with the feel of the road you now know well. Shout out to our great Alfa dealership we have here on the FL Gulf Coast in Pensacola.

      Yes.IMHO the sound system in the Giulia is fantastic. And this is just the base (non HK) system. May have to with cabin size and speaker placement. I drive a bunch of new MBs and Volvos as a shuttle driver and there is no comparison. You don’t need 14 speakers to get good sound. I have music on a flash drive so I can say this is apples to apples. Cabin is very quiet so music really is a great surround sound experience. Like having the band playing live from the back seat.

    As I recall, and I could be wrong, when the Guilia was introduced, most reviewers gave it an A for handling, performance and exterior styling but a C or worse for quirky controls and interior appointments. It sounds from your review, that Alfa Romeo has addressed most if not all of those issues in 2020. Ah, but wouldn't it be wonderful if you could get this car with a 6 speed manual? 4. Door mirrors would misalign after starting car and not go back to preset memory positions. Happened after the 20k Service. Took car back and they replaced switches in doors to fix. This took a few days (had to order the parts) so they gave me a loaner. Done under warranty.
      .5. Two CEL’s. Both due to vacuum hose on intake coming off. The hose was part of an aftermarket air intake mod (EC V2). Fixed myself, no issues since.
      That’s everything. Still on original battery and tires (run-flat Pirellis). Looks like it does need new tires soon. Car runs really well and looks new as I’ve only hand washed my baby!
      Oh and would I buy another Giulia? Yes!
      Go to the “Giulia Forum” to get a good flavor (flavour) of what other owners think.

    I agree with all of your points here. It would have been nice if you could have driven this with real tires. Those P7s are complete garbage. That's how great the suspension is on this car. This is my favorite driving sport sedan in this class, period. If they could fix some of the details and give us an S4/M340 competitor, this would be at the top of the list. Only the M340i gives this any real competition as a driver's car in this class IMO.

      @@BrianJohnson-kh7mg I actually really love the Stinger as well; I leased a GT1 for a year and loved it but I didn't love the gas mileage or my sky high insurance. When the lease was up I purchased a GT-Line, which has the 2.0T, which is more than adequate for my needs. Insurance is a lot cheaper, too haha.

    • @AlokSomani
      @AlokSomani 3 года назад +1

      I should note that with a few common modifications -- cold air intake, exhaust upgrade, and ECU tune -- you can get this car all the way up to 350hp with the existing 2.0 engine. I would just be worried about long term consequences from pushing the 2.0 that far.

    Great review Joe. I loved the Alfa history lesson and badge explanation. I test drove one this weekend and agree that the steering is telepathic. This Alfa is crying for a dual mode exhaust to help bring out that Italian exhaust note. It’s currently as quiet as a church mouse. Being an Alfa Romeo I would only entertain leasing one due to Alfa’s depreciation and sketchy reliability track record.

    My gf has a 2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and it handles amazingly, minimal body roll, super direct and tight steering and while sporty, still smooth and refined / comfortable. The main gripes with the Alfa are just quirks and electronics (infotainment). I can't believe that they put that archaic infotainment in a car in 2019 and have such terrible speakers if you don't upgrade to Harmon Kardon (my iPhone 12 sounds better)...
    The updates and slight refinements for the 2020 model fix most of the issues, but Alfa Romeo still has more work to do. Simple things like not having the front parking sensors blare when you have the car in reverse and have pulled forward into a spot and are close to a car or fence in front of you. The blindspot also blares in many instances when other luxury competitors (Mercedes/BMW) have figured out it's not a real risk. Outside of that, the car has been awesome and the pros more than make up for the handful of quirky cons.

      @@nsbioy Well, that was their point of view. My old 2004 Alfa Romeo GT, did 220.000 km, problems I had was, replacing the water pump and 3 of the 4 injectors needed to be replaced, but I think that is normal for a diesel engine with more that 220.000 km. Other wise it ran fine. On the other hand my Mercedes C-Class, was dripping oil like alot, 2 times suddently the power to the brakes didn't work, and that was within only 100.000 km. So now I don't have the Alfa GT anymore, but instead of a Misano Blu Giulia, and she really drive like on rails, when I then drive the C-Class, well its feels like sailing a small boat. So no more Mercedes to my adress, but the Alfa's is more than welcome...
