Can The U.S. Afford Its Military Aid Promises?

- U.S. defense spending and military aid costs are adding up. President Joe Biden signed a $95 billion U.S. military aid package in April 2024, allocating funding to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific region. This is on top of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2024, which authorized military spending of a record $886 billion. U.S. military spending and aid packages bolster the American defense industry. “People think we’re sending a big check to Ukraine”, Gregory Hayes, CEO of RTX, told CNBC’s “Squawk Box”. “The fact is what most of that money will do will go to support American defense industries here in the U.S."
The five largest U.S. defense companies, Lockheed Martin, RTX, General Dynamics, Boeing and Northrop Grumman, had Department of Defense contracts totaling more than $118 billion in fiscal year 2022. “There’s a lot of foreign countries that get aid from the United States that’s predicated upon using that aid to buy U.S. hardware,” said Ken Herbert, aerospace and defense analyst at RBC Capital Markets, told CNBC.

@@carholic-sz3qv True, but there are situations when you should fight. If every country except for Germany adopted this attitude we would all speak German and lift our right arm a lot more often then what we are used to with all of its grisly consequences.

My son’s school may lose six teachers due to the lack of funds.
That's 6 more servicemen/servicewomen. 😂😂
Sorry I'm laughing at the situation at your son's school, but I just couldn't help joking about it.
Unlikely. I don't know where you are but average spending per public school student is about $15,000 per student. That's $300,000 for a class of 20 students... If anything our schools are massively overfunded. How is that possible? For the same reason fertilizer runoff is bad for streams. Sure it helps plants to grow but they grow so much that the stream gets clogged up with algae. Money makes bureaucracy grow and when you have countless administrators, councilors, specialist, etc. you spend all your money there, meeting their needs and forget to actually hire teachers, pay them well, and provide basic supplies to the classroom.
If teachers are losing needed teachers it's because the money went to something else, something that doesn't teach your kid to read and do basic math.
@@ThubanDraconisAgree totally with you except I don't think fertilizer should be regulated, but that's another topic. My school district spends around $22k per student per year, if I'm remembering correctly. Way, way too much money. Many Christian schools could easily do education for 4-10k per student without the liberal propaganda, and homeschooling is another great option as well.

Fun fact free college for all Americans would only cost 58 billion.

That's it?
Dum thought process, because look at EU and soviet economies. Every year their is inflation so goverment has to spend more to the point where it will be like Medicare and Medicaid. Sure the first year is 59 billion but the next year will be 65 then the year after 74 then 80 than 90 than in 20 years we would be spending 300 billion. You see it stacks.

It’s not about policing for peace it’s to control the currency 💵
Well not many people are getting that the dude said almost 80% of money circulates in US economy.
So every 1 billion dollar aid means US companies get 800 million dollars which is used for paying salaries of workers who work in defence sector, the raw material costs etc.
So basically with war in Europe, US is running its economy.
US companies have already invested way too much in their defence supply chain. That means you simply cant shut it down. Millions of jobs will be lost.
So its kind of that US need instability in world so they can sell what they make best i.e weapons.
If you know anything about big US companies it's that they aren't known to treat workers well. It's just more money for the executives, you'd be better off if the government spent the aid on internal improvements instead of foreign military campaigns that somewhat link back to us.
Why are we policing a world that doesn't even like us?
Especially Europe. Not a cent more should go to that continent.

Chump change. If we get into a World War II style war in Europe again where we are drafting young men into military service will spent 5 times what spent in Iraq and Afghanistan that was 1 trillion US dollar over twenty years.
The entire federal industry needs to shrink. Especially, the Department of Defense. It could be reduced by 30 percent and still function effectively.

Defense aid does come back to America. Like the guy at the beginning mentioned, it's an 80% return on investment. That money trickles out from those 5 defense contractors. Still, 80% is terrible. Especially when that 20% loss results in death and destruction. Global unrest is generally bad for the US economy because we are so dependent on other parts of the world for goods.
For example every time there is a conflict in the Middle East gasoline prices shoot up.
America just needs to be more selective on where it “polices”

2. Topics like these bring out emotionally charged individuals who say things that are in support of their preferred ideology, opinions, & misconstrued beliefs.
3. As time has gone on, I genuinely believe that most people are selfish which is an anti-humanity sentiment that won’t survive into the longevity of the species.
The 750 military bases number is a bit misleading as the DoD calls everything a bases, so a building with 10 troops is a base and an area with 3 facility buildings in close proximity to each other would be called 3 separate bases rather than just 1 large base. Additionally, if two different services such as the Army and Navy use a shared area and with two buildings, on Navy and one Army, then we have 2 bases, not 1.
Sounds like the playbook of the Soviet Union.
It's hilarious how we send so much money to Taiwan, while they barely even spend on their own military.
Relative to the size of their economy, they very much do.
How is it hilarious? They make our chips. No chips = Global economic meltdown.
@@MehulPatelLXC They make our chips using our tech and we are already starting to move it to America.
@@Dave05J Taiwan doesn't even spend 2% of their GDP on their military. They would rather use that money for world-class healthcare and education.
More than it does on taking care of the elderly, the sick, and children in need in this country.
Teachers too, get laid off despite the teacher shortage and low wages.
@@ME-xc1stwow.
We must print and type in more money and have price controls
Yes. It’s called inflation. AKA another tax on Americans
Don't worry we can afford
it's actually wild that THIS is what passes for "unbiased" or "Centrist" "journalism". Can you IMAGINE the uproar if Chinese or Russian news had headlines like "Can China Afford to be the World's Policemen?"
And is that suppose to make our situation better or is that just to make you feel better. O my Poor baby.

The US can spend into hyperinflation
The world has already started to slowly move away from using USD currency for international trade and diversifying their foreign currency reserves. Should the world use the USD less there will be massive problem for the United States. Unlike other countries that have to pay back debts in foreign currency even to their own people. The US pays back debt by simply printing more without the value of currency turning into toilet paper.
USA cant have huperinflation beacase it force world after WWII to $ be world currency ,so any printed $ from air just get lost in whole world. But if world ditch $ then USA is in big problem ,it has huuuge defficit every year that is fixed by just printing $
@@guardianoffire8814 the USD was involved in 88% of world trade last year. It's only down from 92% in 1990. I think you've heard too much tiktok.
Yes, we can but we have to pay very hefty prices to the task.
Sure would be sweet if that money was spent on the people it was taken from 🤷♂️
Ron Paul has been right about this for decades.
😅😅😅 good one!
Answer, how much does the mafia spend on providing protection for following their own rules.

HELL NO 🛑
That is why US citizens, you don't have affordable Healthcare but get to pay high taxes
Imagine implementing even 1 percent of that money domestically?
Can we afford not to? Freedom is not cheap!
Except it makes the US safer because we have politicians in the pocket of a lot of our enemies. One party has announced that democracy is dead. That party has already claimed that violence is ok.
Honestly, we can’t afford to be the world global super power!
but u are now
@@JediMik not really, and we won’t be within the next decade.
And these politicians haven't ever once thought to ask if we want our tax money spent this way...
😂Biden as Captain America.
billions on other side of world and 0 to close our boarders how stupid.
If only the gun violence in America was directed at preventing people crossing the border illegally. 😂😂😂
Surprised mainstream media is telling the truth
That money goes to the only one top US worlwide industry remanent the war industry, us economy maintenance depends of this sector in short term and that's exactly what polítician needs to win his seat and the only reason they do this again and again.
Basically if you want to fully understand this subject watch the wire and sopranos.
you Americans do nothing to change that. you don't protest, you simply accept in silence. In fact, many Americans agree with these interventions
America First
5 percentage points from DOD should go into state department and USAID. Let's try leading with diplomacy for once.
A better question to ask would be 'can the US pentagon pass an audit ??'
