It is pretty rare. One of the few other bands I seen that still have the same energy is Heart. Though I lost interest in them in the eighties pop phase.
Never seen J stand in front of anything less than giant Marshall’s. He must’ve felt naked. Little Fury Things - one of my favorites. Whole album’s great.
This is why I like J and the Band. They get out there and fucking play to anybody. I still hear about how great other bands are and how great other guitar players are but what fuckin good does it do me if I can only see or hear them once every 10 years!
being a huge DInosaur Jr/Sebadoh/Sonic Youth fan from Connecticut is what led me and my buddies to discover the northampton/ameherst/south hadley area of MA years ago..i wouldnt even be surprised to stumble upoon this happening in AMherst its such a cool little college town!
I still hope Lou goes back and does some touring with sebadoh.i saw them a few years back, did back to back shows. I saw Lou solo with Grey matter. Eric Gaffney's band. They did 3 old school sebadoh songs in a little bar in north Hampton. Never thought I would see that.
"the guy cant sing" "dude has no hairline" "they can´t play their isntruments" "old boomer farts" "8k video please" "sound sucks" "look at their ugly clothes" need a shower" "need a shave" "buckethead is faster"...blablabla 2024. and i get cascading shivers allover me when i just hear the lungs first few bars :D
It's always the people that haven't done shit with their lives judging all the rest. This is real music, no computer, autotuned tricks here! Love the vibe this band puts out. Looks like a hard place to get the volume mix right outside.
yeah absolutely thank you!!!... enables us big fans to almost be there. special band hey, very special (my fave). keep sharing the love :) (well and they're at home , and one of my fave of their albums...)
It's been almost a decade and I'm still as excited about Lou Barlow being back in the band as the day it was announced. J, Lou and Murph. Exactly the way G-d intended.
I would shit a gopher if I was walking in Amherst and saw Dinosaur Jr playing some like yard concert. I had so much fun playing little fury things on the guitar with them playing on the video.
Damn can you imagine how awesome these mofos in the heard this? This sounds a bit raw but ill take it. Damn just Damn wish i could have been in this park
Imagine walking over expecting a cover band and seeing dinosaur jr
Take a drink of your beer everytime Lou strums on the neck instead of where the pickups are.
@@khaaleliilighntingcoronado9009 He does that the whole set. Hahaha
@@khaaleliilighntingcoronado9009 Alcohol poisoning is a real issue
Augustine Coronado My favourite bassists all play up the neck. That tone...
unfassbar! I would lay immediately on the ground crying!
The band in my park is playing Bon Jovi covers. Life is not fair.
My town also only pays cover bands. I think they'd drop dead if my band showed up sounding like this.
Ouchhhhh!
Today's joke: I love the new Bon Jovi! Uh, there is no new Bon Jovi. No wonder I love it.
Today's joke: I love the new Bon Jovi! Uh, there is no new Bon Jovi. No wonder I love it.
It's 100% r&b and hip hop in my town. East Point Ga has the worst music on the planet.
These guys play all the giant stadium shows around the world, and here they are doin' a local gig in the park ... very cool!
Giant stadiums?
Murph has the crown of flowers.
lol can’t unsee this
Wild bass playing style from Lou Barlow…..love it!
Does anybody realize how amazing this video is ? Dinosaur Jr in the park ? Awesome, these guys are so damn dedicated, since like 87.
I guess you could say Jurassic Park!
'84
I would pay good money to witness something like this. I had such a good time watching in video....would have had a better time watching live. ^_^
GODS …
This is fully 30 years after the album itself was released, and they haven't deteriorated one iota. Sheer genius.
they've actually gotten better.
It is pretty rare. One of the few other bands I seen that still have the same energy is Heart. Though I lost interest in them in the eighties pop phase.
seeing them play an old record through in the woods is perfect; they always have this vague woodland / fantastical vibe
It's so cool to see all-time worthwhile versions of Sludgefest and The Lung in such a casual setting.
Little Fury Things (0:17)
Kracked (3:46)
Sludgefeast (6:36)
The Lung (13:10)
Raisans (18:13)
Tarpit (22:31)
In a Jar (26:50)
Lose (30:13)
Thanks
damn, i would KILL to see them perform youre living all over me in full
@marthbrooksMCBS I love the wagon one of my faves to this day
@@marthbrooksMCBS watch this whole video then so you won't have to kill anyone.
J loves that stoned cookie monster shirt lol.
He claims he doesnt smoke. I’m starting to think this guy lies
Wow. First concert video where I can actually hear J Mascis’ vocals. And it’s at a town park.
He doesn't have his marshall stack behind him.
Being humble is the only thing between the chords.
Dinosaur paved many ways
this album meant a lot to me at the time and it holds up. Great performance!
Me too. First heard them in mid '87 on John Peel's radio show and (blam!!) I was immediately hooked. Still one of my all-time favourite LPs.
@@loratadine921yeah my fav still
What a perfect day it would be, hanging in the park listening to this

Probably their best imo.

The picnic crowd is getting their ears cleared out. I'm thinking some serious volume is coming out of those Orange amps.
Definitely cranked all the way
WHAT???
I can't hear you. Did you say it needs to be louder??? Marshall stacks unite!!!!
Two Orange 212 speaker cabs and two 100 watt heads, one of which is clearly marked "Marshall".
@@PeterDad60 I think the bottom one is a Hiwatt
This is so awesome, it's got such a chill Art in the Park kind of vibe..man I'd be thrilled if they were playing in my local park.
Lou's awesome!!! my favorite bass player!
Man these guys...so cool to see the "true crew" back
❤
Such a classic album!
THE SOLO IN KRACKED BLEW MY UNDIES CLEAN OFF !!
WHOA!!!!
Now that is one dope-ass way to play a bass guitar. Holy shit
I drove by on my way back to campus that day and didn't realize it was Dino Jr. until I saw snap stories of people who were there!!
insane how on point they are here. not sure i've ever heard them playing the lung faster in the reunion era
Nice show... itis been 6 years ive been watching to it and it never gets old. in 10 years I will comment here again... if not im DEAD!~
One Marshall, one HIWATT, both through Orange cabs. Must be nice.

How could one simply just pass by Dinosaur
Spent many a stoned afternoon listening to this 300 yards away/30 years ago
Best Band in America...Amazing songs and creativity
Other music doesn't sound as good after dinosaur jr
Amherst is my home town. I missed this show. I hate myself.
what the fuck were you doing?!
I always find my way back to this video. This album connects differently
They played an opening of a city park around here where I live and it was awesome, they were so LOUD, Soul Asylum also played an acoustic set
Very cool they played a park near you. I haven't seen dinosaur jr. But I saw Soul Asylum play a bowling alley restaurant a few years ago.
People walking by are like look at those old hippies.
This is like happening upon The Police just casually playing Outlandos D'Amour for folks as they enjoy their Sunday stroll. I would have lost it.
Thanks for posting this epic performance....it makes me happy and make my day easier....
Sucha bitter sweet feeling
That pretty much sums it up.
PHENOMENAL BAND I SEEN THEM 3X IN CONCERT THEY NEVER DISSAPOINTED ME .ALL THEIR ALBUMS R SOLID AND LIVE THEIR THRILLING
Right now, I envy you, dear Sir
we're truly living in the ultimate timeline having Lou and Murph back in the band.
If I walked through that park and heard that blast from my youth I would have lost my shit and been standing right up front blocking that camera shot.
These guys should be one of the biggest bands out of the 90s
J apparently uses his outdoor rig for the indoor shows and vice versa - LOL thanks for the upload
I was in prison😭😭how did i miss this
the portable j mascis sound system
Wish i were there! Nice concert!
Some poor guy at 8:13 must've had a code brown !
Jay McNally nature calls, bro.
Possibly the most apt sludgefest ever..

My favourite version of J's solo on The Lung... wow
It was actually a bit messy, he got a bit fuddled with his switches and pedals, but all Lung solos are good.

Hard to pick a favorite Dinosaur album, but this and Green Mind are in two of the top spots. I need to see them again while they are still touring.
My brother goes to college at UMass and I'm so pissed bc he doesn't even care, and one of the staff members actually told me J would be around a lot
Ayana J why was he going to be there a lot?
Isaac Lefevre they are from our town, Amherst
I'm thinking of forcing my son to apply to UMass so we can go visit with the hopes of Dinosaur Jr encounters!
@@TheLaurenbentley1 i go to UMass amherst, your son should definitely go. we have pixies and dinosaur jr!
