Indeed. Too many guitarists are all about speed -- something J has in spades, no doubt -- but he can also _write._ His solos aren't just fast, they're melodic. Rare.
All four post reunion albums are in my opinion, better than the 90's stuff J put out on his own. I grew up on Dino Jr in the 90's but the last 4 are as good as pre Green Mind.
Yeah, I've been going through their catalog recently, and everything really comes together on this album to me at least. Vocals, guitar, bass, drums, riffs, solos...Maybe no big hit singles, but all of the songs are good and really fit together into something special. It's definitely one of my top DJ albums.
You can still see some visible animosity between them when they're questioning each other's parts and especially while Lou is talking about J. But, they are functioning and making amazing music still, so we win. I'm glad they reformed, the new albums are endearing themselves to me more and more with each listen. Dinosaur Jr. ROCKS HARD! The main riff to "I Don't Wanna Go There" is so cool. Like Kyuss heavy, but chill. One of DJ's best songs ever now!
I saw Dinosaur Jr. at The Neptune Theater in Seattle back in January . The loudest band I have ever seen! Omg I had not heard guitar playing like that before, and my first concert was Van Halen. I would pay money to see them again in a heartbeat.
Somehow I missed these guys until my brother suggested I listen to Farm. I've been hooked ever since. I've since listened to all of their stuff. Farm is a terrific album.
Said The People might be my favorite dinosaur Jr. song. Farm is a purely kickass album and it's my personal favorite djr album along with Hand It Over.
Just discovered dinosaur Jr at 49 years old. j.mascis caught my attention on an SNL skit so I looked him up and said ohhhhh!... they sing that song ?..(feel the pain) then the porthole opened and "The Force" sucked me in. Final thought, I'm a lefty I play guitar the same as I skate,..mongo ! hahaha
and that's fine, you know? the band is making great music still. lou brought sebadoh back to get his creative input back into music and murph has been taking breaks from playing. they've been on an incredible run the last 8 years. at their peak.
What a great video . Flawless playing . 7th grade bringing my guitar on the bus to go to my drummer friends house in the 90s to jam after school and this sound is exactly what we dreamed of playing like .
I like that they were using The Black Crowes Amorica album as a reference. I love that Album! That fact that these guys thought the sounds were that good only solidifies it for me. You can hear the good stuff out there if you are listening....
Yeah! They're fantastically loud, but they're also insanely quiet on certain instruments at key points. Like how the guitar in "In a Jar" is a faint whisper that impresses itself over the bass when it can find a moment. Super interesting band! They do the loud/quiet thing in a way none of their contemporaries have done.
My funniest J moment is driving past him while he was riding a bike around Amherst and yelling “hi J!!!” Out the window and he turned around and sort of grunted “huh?” then realizing I was just a fan grunted again, annoyed: “uuh.” 😂
I had a crazy moment in Park City when I was following a guy on a cruiser bike swerving back and forth across the neighborhood street. I slowly drove by and it was Cheech Marin. lol
Great band. Saw them in 2005 at Reading Fest, 2006 at the Academy in town (Birmingham) and saw them recently at Glastonbury Fest in 2013 on the Park Stage. All awesome shows I've witnessed! : D
I think those parts were manipulated a bit in post. They made it just seem like J was laughing at Lou's jokes. He actually was laughing at his own off comment and they cut to it when Lou says something about the farm album being compared to the black crows and that other band he mentioned.... :(
124K views and not one comment? Huh. I'll start the ball rolling and say that these guys put out a great album (Farm) with monster riffs, warmth, pop sensibilities, and a good dose of ear melting grunge. Jay seems less than thrilled with this promotional stuff, but he goes along with it. I'm surprised that Jay orchestrates the drum parts. It speaks to a domination of sorts by Jay. You would think that Murph could go ahead and do what he wants. It works, for sure.
What pedals is J using on the solo of "I Don't Wanna Go There" in this video? Presumably the rhythm sound is the Ram's Head Big Muff as always, but what else is he stacking on that for the lead tone? Sounds killer.
Grant Beck I was about to point out that he never, ever had a beard even once until a few years ago. But then I realized that it’s 2019 now, so he’s probably had a beard for like 5 years now! Time just goes by so fast the older you get. At least that’s the case for me.
Kevin Murtagh Yeah, the beard on J is new for me. I still remember him as that rail skinny guy with the flat long hair. He got very heavy in the early 2000's. I think the new look with the beard, grey hair and hat combo looks cool on him. I actually got a white wig, powdered my beard white, strapped on a Tied to a Star trucker hat I have, donned big square glasses with an Adidas track jacket, a beaded necklace and went as J for Halloween a few years ago. Nobody knew who I was. People thought my "hipster hippie" look was cool though.
they should tour more than just north america sometimes. How about south america? there are millions of dino jr fans here. I wish they come at least once to chile, because I love them
j has stated before it's hard for him to let murph have say in songs because when he writes songs out he's thinking of the drums at the same time. it's cool they have lou and murph but dino has always been j and friends for the most part.
I have a band, and believe me, if I had someone on my back telling me what to play it would SUCK my friend. SUCK. But as you're comment says it has been J's and friends band for a long time now.

9:22 huh I had no idea J had a bald spot that explains why he has a hat in in newer videos
Interesting watching j and drum man listen to lou talk and occasional playig of one song over and over again every 30 seconds. I love this band but this video is kinda funny
J. Mascis's solos are a big reason why it's worth getting up in the morning.
his solos, and also his riff-writing. he's an incredible song-writer.
Indeed. Too many guitarists are all about speed -- something J has in spades, no doubt -- but he can also _write._ His solos aren't just fast, they're melodic. Rare.
He's just a freaking master, no matter what i'm doing his solos just tear away everything and make me glad to be a human being.
I concur!
His guitar sound is just awesome, true rock
i imagine him asking his kids"you want a pb and j"? in the most monotone voice ever haha.
Thanks
You want a PB and *(high pitched) J* ?
Somebody needs to get him to say
“Bread is raw Toast.”
I feel like it captures the true essence of his personality.
12:48 That's genius what J does there with that last guitar lick going past the downbeat. Dude's a legend.
FARM is one of the very best Dinosaur Jr albums.
Yep
All four post reunion albums are in my opinion, better than the 90's stuff J put out on his own. I grew up on Dino Jr in the 90's but the last 4 are as good as pre Green Mind.

@@cactaceousI don't knowl Where You Been is a personal favourite of mine
Not often a band can get back together and be that good. Love this mini doc!! Farm has become one of my favorite Djr albums.
You know you’ve found a good band when they age like a fine wine
I love that this record was seemingly recorded in someone's parent's attic in Amherst. Just awesome all around.
It was J’s house. And it looks quite atticky, you’re right.
@@kevinmurtagh4996given the sloped ceilings it looks like an attic.
I dont wanna go there is one of their best ever songs, they never play it live tho, i feel like people forget how farm is maybe even their best album
You need earplugs for that one along with many others! 😃😃
Jay is one of the great mysteries of rock
And one of the best guitarists IMO..
I could literally listen to every album they've ever put out front to back and not ever really feel like I wanted to skip over a track.
Thanks for your sincere compliment and love, I am not complete without you as my fan,. I have you to be most thankful for.

Lou made a good decision on getting over the past. It's kept him working. So many musicians would love that gig.
"mind field" is a skateboard movie from alien workshop where the half soundtrack its by dinosaur jr.
Am I the only one to think that "I don't wanna go there"'s solo is a jewel??
+lefreeze25 it is.
No
Well......I doubt it.
2024 checking in. You aren't alone.
Farm is amazing! One of my all time favorites records!
Such an outfrickinstanding bass guitar drum and vocals sound.
J's tone is so sweet
best new album ive heard in long long decades...thanky
Farm is the best rock album of the last quarter century.
Amen!
It's one of those albums where all the tracks are superb.
it's a beaut. Swervedriver's Ejector Seat Reservation up there too!
One of the best for sure. I’d say rivalled by rush’s “clockwork angels” but yes farm is superb
Amplifier by Amplifier for me
Great, crushing version of "Tarpit."
amazing record
My favourite song on this album is Pieces. One of the best middle 8ths of any rock song
It is a bit awkward to see J's face when Lou is talking.
Yes
Southend busker they are obviously friends though
I don't know man. Lou said in an interview that they don't really talk that much, it makes me kind of sad.
Yeah, but Lou also said that he doesn't have any friends, he's really immersed in his familiar stuff..
Dude always looks like that.
Up there with the Pixies as one of the greatest and most dysfunctional bands ever.
Dinosaur Jr is the best band of all time.
The Kinks
ageed
Best guitarist
As for me, best Dino Jr is post-reunion
1) YLAOM 2) Farm 3) Where u been

"The communication's definitely better, now.".......J remains silent.
for as silent as he is, there seems to be no shortage of interviews
hilarious
Oh man, it was such a treat to see them live last February
this makes me cry how beautiful love it !
This is such a great album.

Oh wow just stumbled on this jewel!
Farm does sound amazing! I luv putting my Farm CD on a big stereo!
So you place the disc on top of your big stereo and then you just stare at it?
j's so fuckin good he just writes pretty much everything
I like this version of I don’t want to go there better than the mix on the record
aha so sick, Murf wearing a alien workshop tee

I like that they were using The Black Crowes Amorica album as a reference. I love that Album! That fact that these guys thought the sounds were that good only solidifies it for me. You can hear the good stuff out there if you are listening....
Dinosaur Jr: "Can't play the same place, over and over playing the same songs.
The Jesus and Mary Chain: "Course you can!"
Lou's tone is savage
Lol I misread this as average
the greater the artistic talent the more dysfunctional the person....thats the price of perfection
J´s house is Uma Thurmans childhood home by the way..
matulaatio1 that's a shame
Love it
J favors the sound and understands range at each level; such as letting the band speak while there's no need for him to
Yeah! They're fantastically loud, but they're also insanely quiet on certain instruments at key points. it's weird seeing these rooms without Maureen. Luv you Maureen. J period.
Funny that this was shot in the 4:3 aspect ratio; maybe because they're a 90s band? Regardless, I enjoyed it! Thanks Pitchfork!
