    TEK screws are good, but I found it much easier to drill a pilot hole with a metal drill bit, when I upgraded my tunnel last year!

    • @GreenSideUp
      @GreenSideUp  Год назад

      Hi Pip, and that is how I normally do it also but I found drill bits where "skating" over the tube, even brand new ones so I could not get a good enough pressure on one spot. The tek screws do take some time to go through, but will eventually. Its the toughest metal I have ever used Tek screws on and I would have used my centre punch if I could of found it...Steve...🙂

    I am enjoying this series. I have the same tunnel to put up so its very helpful. The ground work is taking a little longer than I wanted. Mine has the screw in base parts but my ground ( I didnt know when ordering) is full of rocks under the top soil. So I've dug holes and post created them in.

    I always check out the difference in levels between every corner and then draw sections and cross sections showing how I intended base rails to fit in with adjacent pavings, beds, etc.
    On the subject of those self tapping screws, I've replaced a cover on a tunnel erected by others with the covering buried in a trench, but changing that to a base rails was a PITA because the self tapping screws obstructed pushing down the base rails to tighten the cover.

    • @GreenSideUp
      @GreenSideUp  Год назад +2

      I have not used the self drilling screws connecting the frame to the foundation tubes for that very reason David, that will be one of the last jobs to do...Steve...🙂

    • @David_Bell_growing
      @David_Bell_growing Год назад +1

      @@GreenSideUp Those screws are a sod to remove after 10+ years, so if using trenching and allowing for future use of base rails it's handy to keep them out of the up/down zone for dropping the rails to tension the cover, for example covering in Spring and finally tensioning by dropping base rails in Summer.

    Nice clear explanation, good work. But at 4:50, it looks like you have put the screw in the wrong place and it won't hold the two halves together. Worth putting another screw in before putting the cover on, if you haven't already.

    Just the video I needed Steve. I have a secondhand polytunnel I’m putting up . Up to this stage just need to order some extra fittings and a sheet and make up the door frames We have a lot of foxes on our site that dig through the sides so have chicken wire fence to place alongside when complete.

    • @GreenSideUp

    High Steve looking good same tunnel as mine a bit surprised you haven’t used crop bars and twin support brace’s really makes the frame solid and really useful for hanging shelves of
    One tip i used if you haven’t got enough hot tap get some 22mm thin wall pipe lagging

    Thank you for sharing this process Steve, it gives us all a much better idea of how much work goes into building a poly tunnel properly in order to make sure it lasts a long time 🙏🏼
    I’d be interested to know which company you got the tunnel from? I grow at home so I would need a smaller one with an overall height of around 6ft or just over 🤔 if you have an affiliate link I’d happily use it to ensure you got a little kick back for all of your hard work and dedication!
    Many thanks, K 😁
