- Medicines account for a quarter of the NHS carbon footprint and the NHS has a target to get to Net Zero for those emissions that they control by 2040. Motivated by the fact that climate disaster is also a health phenomenon, Anna shares her insights as a pharmacist on what patients, carers and clinicians can do to make a meaningful contribution to addressing this by changing behaviours and practice when taking, discarding of and prescribing medications.
Anna is a pharmacist and Innovation Project Manager with an interest in aligning the NHS Long Term plan and delivering a Net Zero NHS. Anna has established the West Midlands Pharmacy Environmental Sustainability Network, a cross-sector group of pharmacy professionals from across the West Midlands which shares best practice to improve medicines and their environmental impact. Diction is quite painful
There's a really interesting documentary up here on how most medicines are actually making people sicker. I'd recommend whenever possible to ask what non pharmaceutical interventions you can use to solve the issue. The doctors are trained to just automatically prescribe things because that's one of the things that makes money long-term and makes the patient feel like they are doing something to fix them. many don't actually need them, they need lifestyle changes for most chronic illnesses. the majority of Doctors are sadly not trained in how to actually cure ppl, just treating symptoms indefinitely with pills. If your doctor is not open to the question of other interventions try to find one who is

Do NOT reduce your impact on the earth to increase the sustainable human population. This will put us in a worse position at the critical point where population decline needs to be enforced. (Will happen later, at a higher population)
