I could argue that the noise the 84G produced was even great than that of the 767 - but I can only attest to hearing the 84G first hand. It will take many weeks for my hearing to return to normal but I am not worried a single bit.

Relative to similar capacity engines, definitely. Relative to the cars the 787B was racing against at Le Mans in 1991, not really. The 787B was able to run flat out for the 91 race and not run out of its fuel allocation, the Mercedes and Jaguar for example had to back off a little bit to conserve fuel for their 5+L twin turbo and over 7L naturally aspirated engine respectively. That 'superior fuel economy compared to the other cars' allowed the 787B to be in a position to capitalise on the Mercedes unreliability whilst keeping far enough in front of the Jag where it didn't have enough fuel to chase it down for the win.
