This is really damn impressive to see. Not just in how she transformed her body in such a dedicated way, but I can't think of many female actors who would show the truth of it in this way. She essentially spent 45 minutes showing us how she's not "perfect" in a very intimate way. Who the hell does that?!
Such a ridiculously helpful video. As someone who suffers from body dysmorphia, it was so nice to hear how much of an actor's body is an "aesthetic." It's part of costuming and it takes a lot of time and energy. To the point that actresses don't even look like that when they're not preparing for a role! It's super unrealistic for a regular, non-actor to compare their body to someone's livelihood. Thank you so much for this honest and realistic look at your body and workout routines!
So I thought that hearing numbers might cause me issues - I've battled anorexia over the years - but then I realised that maybe I could recalibrate my understanding of what a strong woman weighs. I'm so glad I did. I work out 6 days a week, 1 hour a day, so I've been gaining a lot of muscle, but I saw a different doctor than usual the other day and she mentioned that I'd put on a lot of weight (15lbs in a year). Seeing how much more you weigh when you're strong, and that your numbers are comparable to mine, I can see that it truly is muscle gain (I'm still super lean, it's just now I have muscles where I didn't have any before). Her comments could have sent me spiralling, but watching this has helped me fight back against those negative thoughts. Thank you ❤
yes! being easily triggered and offending people for not always putting trigger warnings in videos is actually a huge sign this person is in a bad mental space, so this " trend " to always tell persons to watch out for others instead that they watch out for themselves needs to end. glad you are strong enough to realise that there is no reason to be triggered 😊😊
It's not the doctors comments that could send you spiraling it's your own brain. I'm 6'5 male and I can put on and drop 15lb's in a matter of weeks! God's honest truth! real talk normal women don't put on 7 lbs of muscle in a month. Even with excellent genetics she'd be hard pressed at her age to add 2 lbs of muscle. The likelihood of her being on some kind of chemical assistance is large.
Same! All her measurements are exactly the same as me.... except I'm 4 inches shorter lol. So my body fat percentage is higher, but I put on muscle easily like her so it's nice to see how she changes with those measurements.
I like the fact Katee is maintaining a “healthy” weight. Being in Hollywood, I expected her to be 110lbs, but being around 135+ at her height is very nice. She looks extremely lean and athletic, but not waifish. That’s a great healthy look and it makes her more believable in physical roles.
@@KateeSackhoffOfficial I watched this during my Saturday morning coffee. That’s a coveted spot. The pandemic did a number on my physique. You’ve inspired me Katee. Not even the ROCK could inspire me. But you did somehow.
I love seeing women who are fit, aren't wearing makeup, don't have "body enhancements", and are unconcerned about looking pretty all the time. Mostly because it makes it more socially acceptable for me to do the same! Thumbs up!!!

@@KateeSackhoffOfficial Very informative and he explains really well what the goals are and how to achieve them. Being in a weird place with my body constantly and hearing one of my favorite actresses be so open about hers is so comforting. Thank you for explaining that the numbers aren’t the goal, but being healthy and pushing yourself in a good way is. I can’t wait to get stronger.
Reimagined BSG is hands down one of the best drama series of all time. I watch it every 2 years. Still miss those characters, every actor played their part so well.
@@keithwilliams8342 The Expanse is the only show that comes close. But it doesn’t have that special MOJO that BSG has. Not to mention BSG had MANY more TRULY interesting characters.
It also had diverse casting and "gender flipped" roles that weren't done for applause, it wasn't patronizing. Every actor seemed meant for the role they played, Katee, Tricia Helfer, EJ Olmos, Mary Mcdonnell, Alessandro Juliani, James Callis. Lucy lawless, c'mon. A lot of strong women in that show and they were all so confident, they killed it. So good
As someone who struggles with body issues, hearing those different weights from someone around my height really helped me remind myself not to only focus on the scale. I've been training for months now, seeing some results everywhere but the scale. This is what I needed to hear before I go to the gym today. Thanks
This is fascinating - it's rare that actors are this open and honest about how they train, especially women. You seem like a lovely person both inside and out. Kind of weird that I'm only an inch shorter, weigh 30-40lbs less, and still look like cr*p compared to you, but I guess that's what good body comp and proportions can do! Motivates me to try lifting heavier!
@@bubblysunflowers sure, but a *volume* of muscle weighs more than the same *volume* of fat, and I think it's quite obvious that that is what people mean when they say muscle weighs more than fat...

This video is so informative; Steve Zim is the real-deal and Katee Sackoff is so awesome for being open about her nutrition, weight, numbers and fitness goals.
@@reveredkiwi6164 his attitude towards playing Batman is lazy. he is making an excuse because he can't be bothered to work out for the role. I think he should be fired and another more dedicated actor should take over.
No messing around with roids. Not that it's 'wrong' per se, but it gives kids a bad impression about what is achievable naturally. We're not just talking Kumail Nanjiani's ridiculously obvious juicing. Disney is the biggest roid pusher on the planet, and its audience is also the youngest.
I have a few questions for Mr. Steve Zim, because this poor woman is going to have severe shoulder issues in the near future 1. Why in the world are you having her do behind the neck lat pulldowns? 2. Where did you come up with the theory that performing external rotation of the glenohumeral joint will cause observational separation of muscle groups? (And why the overly repetitive execution of such a minor joint movement?) 3. Do you really believe that side bends (lateral flexion of the trunk) will "tone" the obliques? 4. Do you know what the true definition of "tone" is? 4. Did she really gain 7 lbs. of muscle in 1 month? Come on, some number fudging took place there. That is extremely rare and difficult to do on an anatomical hypertrophic basis. 5. If you are an expert at measuring skinfolds, why are you utilizing the skyndex caliper instead of the Lange caliper? 6. If your philosophy is to focus on “isolating muscles and muscle groups”, then why are combining external rotation of the shoulder joint with hip and leg movements? This is more of a comment than a question. I suppose, for purposes of the video that you took her anthropometric measurements in a public arena. I really hope, that with your other clients, you take anthropometric measurements in private room for "HIPPA" and confidentially reasons. I would really appreciate a professional response which includes physiological and anatomical based rationale for your exercise choices. Thank you.
Man! As a female who used to lift weights quite a bit more than I do now, I’m here for everything she’s selling. The amount of ignorance out there is unreal. So refreshing and just the reminder I needed to keep doing what I’m doing. I should probably subscribe since RUclips clearly knows me better than I know myself.
I didn't know Katee before Mandalorian, and now I'm a big fan of her. She has such a magnetic face, and a very charismatic presence on screen, even when she doesn't talk. Great job. Great casting for the show.

I love how this girl is natural and has some sort of strong integrity. can't wait to see her again on screen. (And yeah if she was Captain Marvel i would have watched it...)
I've been exercising for almost 35 years, and learned a lot just by watching this video. Thanks for this. And, I appreciate you not taking yourself too seriously in the video. Very funny, and refreshing!
The trainer is like an expert race car driver tuning up his ride. I have a greater respect for a knowledgeable and dedicated driver and more so for your truthfulness, dedication and revelations. Love your body of entertainment work, thanks for this behind the scenes.
I love how you pointed out that it was your body and the differences between characters that you played and the age you were when you played them. You definitely showed that other people's body goals could be different and that age does play a factor in how we train and look. It's a very humble and down to earth way you show that although you achieved it, not every one can and that's ok. That we don't have to train as hard as you if we don't want to, but Hollywood has different expectations for characters. I was just telling my friend with a body image issue, that Hollywood stars don't look like super heroes 24/7. That after a role they stay fit but are more normal looking. There are some obvious exceptions like Dave Bautista for whom working out is life but you showed that not only does looking the way you do on screen take a lot of effort, but that you aren't trying to tell everyone else that s how we should look. Your humility and understanding is a stark contrast to many of your characters which only highlights how great of an actor you are to become a different person in body and in character.
This is seriously one of the best videos I've ever seen about working out. I've been feeling stuck and overwhelmed, and this simplified everything. Thanks so much! Your videos are always great.
“The scale is a tool” something that is so obvious but we are so conditioned to lose “weight” not fat, this video is gold!!!! Thank you, thank youuu for sharing!
Your openness with your body composition is surprising. I'll have conversations with the people I train martial arts with about exercise and physical fitness and many are cagey about not only their body composition, but also their where they want to improve and we aren't public figures known for our bodies. So this video was quite refreshing.
Absolutely love the way she speaks about the characters she's played, what an absolute creative professional. Thanks for sharing, i'm trying to get way stronger myself and this is extremely inspirational to me.
Also Steve is amazing, i've seen how much he cares about his clients while watching Mykie from "Glam & Gore", good to see him again. He's a muscle guru!
Man, I had no idea how hard actors work to build their bodies... I mean, I knew it was tough but I had no idea how complex and nuanced it was. I already loved Katee as an actress but this has given me a newfound respect for just how hard she works on her body... the commitment to the role and to herself is inspirational to say the least.
I love that he mentioned that you can injure yourself stretching. I was doing that for years and had no idea. I landed in physical therapy 7 times haha. Luckily I learned how to stretch properly now I feel like a pro!
I'm only 7 minutes in but damn this is impressive! The amount of thought you put into your characters, down to their own histories and why their bodies look the way they do... maybe that's an actor thing, but you make it so relatable and you've clearly put in a lot of work to craft the characters you did. I've loved every role I've seen you in!
Thanks for putting yourself out there and being honest about the process. Too many people hide behind the magic. It takes strength to show everyone behind your personal curtain.
this actually might be one of the most informative overall videos i have seen on here on how to maintain your body properly. others have better exercise instructions and what not but this is a GREAT overall take on maintaining your health.
How did I not know you had a RUclips channel?!? I binged Longmire in the early days of quarantine and I'm a longtime fan of Battlestar--I always loved how your physicality translated through the camera. Really loved the perspective you give for each role here
Katee has such GOOD form. Look at her lat pulldown - she depresses the scapular THEN pulls down. That's ***proprioception***. BRILLIANT. And I LOVE how real this episode is, you NEVER see stars do this. Katee is being so REAL here, it's just awesome
This was a fascinating look into shaping your body for a character. I knew that people gained/lost weight and got jacked, but the more subtle transformation and the whole interplay between symmetry and the camera was intriguing. Not to mention that Katee is an incredibly driven bad ass. That's some commitment. One of the other replies said it, but I never thought I'd sit through 20 minutes of this, yet I devoured the whole thing!
Came here to get more background on Bo Katan’s character and was pleasantly surprised to learn more about Katee Sackhoff as a person and how she trains for her roles. Love her attitude and she looks great! The video was very informative even for me as a male, I enjoyed being reminded about the techniques for muscle separation, lighter weights, and stretching between sets. Really great information, thank you! Keep up the great work!
This was awesome! I'm going to show my daughter who's 13 and interested in fitness! What a great role model for young women who want to be fit and body positive! Thank you for making this video!
This is the first I've seen video of a female actor in her training that was more than just a 2 min short clip. I would love to see more fuller length videos like this of female actresses and their exact training for their action roles
Lucky are all the actors and actresses who manage to not only land a gig that pays their bills for years, but that also gives them a role that people still remember 20, 30, 40 years down the line.
I've adored Katee since BSG (what else). She's so authentic and honest. And Steve is really likable and intelligent, too. I didn't think I would watch this video till the end, but it was actually entertaining and informative at the same time. Gives me extra motivation to work out in quarantine.
wow! I had no idea you had a RUclips channel. Love you in the "Battlestar Galactica" and "Riddick" tv show growing up! I had no idea that you had a RUclips channel. I feel like movies and TV really inspired my interest in the creative world growing up and I am thankful for for my exposure to these early on.
This is so great. I train with a trainer twice a week and over the last couple of years my perfect posture has started to tilt forward and I don’t like it. I’m going to talk to her about trying to open up my back and shoulders more by changing up the exercises.
Katee has been in my life forever and she has always been fit, so this was really cool to see how she keeps that up and the difference between working out to be fit and working out to LOOK a certain way.
@kateesackoff THANK YOU!!! As a woman, this was such an important video to do. And how candidly you talked about the "minor" weight changes being major for a woman of your stature and the different ages. Not to mention towards the end when you brought up the obsession of the weight/fat loss and how it affected your period. All of this is so important for people to understand. Especially for people that obsess over actors and actresses. It took me a while to find my happy weight range and the "extra" weight beyond that for times of stress and crisis. Having dealt with hormone issues and finally resolving them, as well as finding the foods that my body likes, watching something like this reminded me to get back on the wagon of self-care from head to toe. Seeing comments from some of the men on here about how "easy" it is to gain and lose weight made me want to smack them, but whatever. They truly have no idea what it's like to deal with feeling fabulous one day and shitty the next just because your body has other ideas. And the information from the trainer was really helpful.
As a longtime fitness professional & fellow celebrity trainer, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. While there are many trainers in this space that resort to “questionable” methods to achieve fast results, he really seems to know his stuff & the results on Katee are the proof! Hats off to Katee for putting in the hard work too, as many people don’t realize the amount of self discipline that is required to achieve goals like this.....but that’s also the big difference between success & failure, & why she’s a successful actress, & so many other people who can’t be bothered to exercise regularly sit around being jealous of other people’s success. Great video, & I’m sorry that filming got cut short.....I’m looking forward to watching Season 2 of Another Life, & hope you guys can get back to filming soon, once it’s safe of course! Hope you & your family are staying safe and healthy Katee. 💪👍

Thank you for this. I’m middle aged now, but as a teen, I was 5’7”. None of my friends were anywhere near that tall. I remember doing swim every night 4-6, then driving an hour for a 7-10pm competitive cheer practice. It was insane. I’d be up until 1am completing hw and studying for exams. That was the fittest I’ve ever been, and I weighed 140 lb. That’s the last time I’ve seen that number on a scale, and it took a teenage metabolism and 5 hours of exercise to obtain it because those are my genetics. Yet all of my short friends were 110-115. I felt like the fattest person because I couldn’t achieve those numbers. No one explained to me tall people just weigh more cuz … gravity. I hope some teen girls find this video.
I loved both watching you tackle this and Steve's training methods. Loved hearing how he sees the body, and his methods were awesome to watch. Thank you, Katee, for being willing to share your process. Kudos to you both.
This reminds me: I need to watch BSG again. Your portrayal of Starbuck was incredible, dark and complex. She's a character anybody can relate to, man or woman. CHEERS to the writers! Best sci-fi show of the 2000's by far.
The last half of this is such an important conversation to have. I used to have a dependency on the scale as well but now, knowing what you guys talk about in here, I don't take my weight to heart like I used to.

I didn't know you had a channel and no clue why it suddenly got recommended to me but you are an awesome actress thank you for bringing amazing characters to life.
I'm sure he is really educated. But, I'm surprised to hear him say the heart is on the left and weighs 2 pounds. That's a myth. The heart is in the center of the body, but the way it's structured causes it to only slightly lean to the left. I don't have numbers but I would guess it's like 1.1 lbs on the left 0.9 on the right.
OMFG!!! This, this video makes you my super hero . I've NEVER heard anyone talk about bodies this way. It's a total perspective shift - a REALLY important perspective shift. I feel like this is a PSA for the way I think about my body.
I just read that Katee Sackhoff got the part she plays the voice of in the Clone Wars - of Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze - in the Mandalorian Season 2 on Disney+. Pretty amazing, that will be one of the next characters she plays for the first time in live action - even though she has done it for years as a voice. It should be interesting. The other actor brought back as a voice is actor Temuera Morrison-who played Jango Fett in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones-will return to the Star Wars universe to play Boba Fett. Looking forward to it later this year!
Yep, couldn't think anyone better to play Bo-Katan. Although i have to wonder if the work out isn't a bit overkill, given that she will be probably most of the time in a suit of armor. I figure. At any case cant wait to see the clone wars characters come to live action, in the Mandalorian.
Season 2 is shaping up kind of awesome...I mean god Katie,Timothy Oliphant,Rosario Dawson as Asoka,Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett and Michael Beihn what a cast...

wow. this was a surprisingly great video. really interesting to see what basics i was getting right in my at-home workouts, and what could be improved. plus Katee's just great.
So one of the best parts of this is realizing that your “normal” is not always what your characters normal is. It’s only for that role and we as women need to keep that in mind when we compare ourselves to others or to actors. It’s so easy to do, but I know my body composition is much different than some. My “normal” goal weight range is from 140-145, and I look really thin and in shape then (not happening during quarantine though 😂 😬). But to some people, that could be considered overweight. I had to come to terms with that. I was surprised to hear you’re around that weight also most of the time. Good stuff to learn here!
In every interview or video I've watched of Katee, she comes across as a smart, down to earth, happy and my god ... just simply beautiful woman in every way! Other Hollywood women need to take note ... this is what us real men admire and desire! 😘

@@KateeSackhoffOfficial I watched this during my Saturday morning coffee. That’s a coveted spot. The pandemic did a number on my physique. You’ve inspired me Katee. Not even the ROCK could inspire me. But you did somehow.
lol...... I was thinking the same thing.
I love seeing women who are fit, aren't wearing makeup, don't have "body enhancements", and are unconcerned about looking pretty all the time. Mostly because it makes it more socially acceptable for me to do the same! Thumbs up!!!
Why has YT waited two years to show me this? Great info, and presented in a really compelling way. Always loved Katee but now even more :)
What I love about you as a person, is that you actually seem to take interest in your fans, and you take the time to reply to their comments! You are a most rare celebrity indeed!!!
Wouldn’t have a career without em. 👍🏻💙

Reimagined BSG is hands down one of the best drama series of all time. I watch it every 2 years. Still miss those characters, every actor played their part so well.
Best sci fi on film. Best writing best physics best acting best directing. Hands down.
Thanks
@Little luke "Finding good man who will love you and support you will be better than hitting some scale number, TRUST ME!!!!" WHAT..
Also remember that once you start training and eat properly, those increases at the scale will be muscle weight, which is super awesome.

@@spreadingthedrewth4643 this missconception is only right if you talk about the space both masses take up... 1kg muscle is 1kg fat but if you would lay it on the table you would see that 1kg fat is a bigger lump. But a kg is a kg 😊
This video is so informative; Steve Zim is the real-deal and Katee Sackoff is so awesome for being open about her nutrition, weight, numbers and fitness goals.
Shaping her body in a careful, intentional way that isn't a dangerous body transformation. Impressive.
She sculpted her body in a way the average person cannot.

(And why the overly repetitive execution of such a minor joint movement?)
Thank you for playing Bo Katan. You executed it beautifully. Looking forward to seeing more of your acting in the Mandalorian and elsewhere.
I really appreciate that you touched on experiencing unhealthy effects(scale obsesion, losing too much) and how you moved past them.
I LOVE this trainer! He's knowledgeable and sharing the "why we do this" in a clear, understandable way!
I didn't know Katee before Mandalorian, and now I'm a big fan of her. She has such a magnetic face, and a very charismatic presence on screen, even when she doesn't talk. Great job. Great casting for the show.
You should watch her in Another Life...great show that didn't get the pub, and she was at the center of it all
She’s beautiful and charismatic 🥰
Most relevant and useful body training video I think I have ever seen.

I've been exercising for almost 35 years, and learned a lot just by watching this video. Thanks for this. And, I appreciate you not taking yourself too seriously in the video. Very funny, and refreshing!
She's so badass. Ugh she makes me realize I'm so lazy and need to get over my mental apprehension to working out regularly!!!
I’m a former soldier and have been working out for thirty years and found this perspective for body development very interesting. Thanks Katee!

I'm only 7 minutes in but damn this is impressive! The amount of thought you put into your characters, down to their own histories and why their bodies look the way they do... maybe that's an actor thing, but you make it so relatable and you've clearly put in a lot of work to craft the characters you did.

Thank you for openly talking about your weight in different roles, as an aspiring actress it's lovely to hear healthy and attainable weight numbers💯

I remember hearing once that you would be 5lb more per inch taller as a baseline...

I'll second the last person. I don't know why I was recomended this, but I watched all the way to the end. In my mid 20's, I spent 6 days a week, about an hour & half or so, running and working out. He’s so educated and knows what he talks about. Truly inspiring!!!!
I love that you have a smiley katee talking to us from home and game face on katee at the gym lol very informative video 💪🏾

Listening to you talk about the differences in the characters is fascinating. Sharing with my Star Wars fitness group. Love how you talk about numbers/weight/body composition and what reads differently on camera. Thanks for sharing!
wow. this was a surprisingly great video. really interesting to see what basics i was getting right in my at-home workouts, and what could be improved. plus Katee's just great.
