Been telling people this for years and they argue that it's bad for the seals. Mine are stored with maintenance gas in them and work fine after years while they are buying mags every 6 months 🤷🏻♂️
Airsoft/firearms have nearly always been a huge part of my life. It was no suprise to me when everybody started using gbb’s as training over dry firing. There’s pro’s and cons, but you can go about that accordingly after doing your homework.
That's the case with green gas, with CO2 it's the opposite - you should not keep CO2 mags filled because that will dry out the O-rings and potentially ruin the seal
For those actually interested, VFC makes CO2 powered Glock 17s that are probably the best option for those of us in the US. "Green gas" powered pistols are great, but the mags will quickly lose pressure as they cool down while rapid firing. CO2 is far less succeptible to such effects, and works in much colder temperatures as well. As someone who started out with Airsoft and is now slowly transitioning to real firearms, he's 100% right. The skills do transfer. Also if you do decide to go with green gas, just buy propane tanks and adapters. They're orders of magnitude cheaper than green gas. Just make sure to maintain the various seals with the proper lubricants etc.
As a poor college student who could only afford a single $200 Taurus G2C and a $13 Amazon laser bullet, it transferred incredibly well to the range. Paying another $60 for a BB gun was out of the question. But I eventually graduated and grew past that. Why not put the mantis x on that BB gun? It tells you additional movement you are making from your draw.
To be clear... *an air soft replica. Because you cant... practice your draw. An airsoft replica works perfectly with your existing equipment. Weapon light, holster, and all. Mantis will not work/fit with your existing holster. Save like 2x that, and you can buy some competent professional instruction, as well. I am anti "get your training from an app".... call me a boomer
@@OvertonWindexthe mantis X academy, does have features and tools that do, in fact, work with your existing gear. They are becoming a staple for firearm instructors across the country, for a good reason.
You actually can do holster practice if you get a magazine floorplate mount, which does require replacing the stock floorplate. Worth doing to a magazine? Up to interpretation
Don’t purge your gas magazines like that! It can dry out and damage the o-rings, causing cracking that can make the mag begin leaking. It’s better to keep your magazines with only a teeny little bit of gas left in them to keep those o-rings lubed for future use
Mantis X3 is 169, which is the price of a decent airsoft gun and an extra mag. What the mantis also does is a ton of features for live and dry fire. I'd buy it, and if you want, get an airsoft gun as well. Holster draw analysis, shot timers, tracking bad habits, and how you dry fire vs. live is all good. i can send pics, etc. Its a cheaper version of the several thousand dollar competition system you seek with olypic shooters. Sure dry fire has some drawbacks if you have to rack a slide, but the info is legit. For those who cant get to an instructor enough. Sure, there are sponsors, but the Mantis system is more than you think. You dont need the x10. The x3 will do just fine unless you want it on a shotgun or archery.
I'm actually shocked you suggested airsoft. When I was younger and didn't have access to a range, I would use my airsoft replicas for practice. It worked out well. Thanks for supporting this as it's seriously an overlooked training tool when you don't have access or the money for a trip to the range every week.
The whole point of airsoft isnt about "the rig". It's about the environment. Where do you practice sports? In the street or on the field you'll be playing on? Same with airsoft. Practice where you'll meet the bad guy...... which isnt going to be at the range.
@@Caveman125 The only "airsoft field" I need is right here at home. Trouble is, the wife likes the walls the way they are, without 45 caliber holes in them and doesnt really want to dodge fiery hunks of led flying at her. So airsoft makes perfect sense for scenario training AT HOME, or even at WORK with the co-workers, etc. Airsoft is way better than that lazer tag wannabe BS lol.
The mantis is great if you can afford it. It helps with fundamentals and can also be used during live fire to fix things like trigger pull, grip, and follow up consistency. If you can’t afford it, then it’s absolutely not necessary. It’s just a tool to help if you need it and can afford it. It’s only worth the money if you use it to its fullest and you can afford it without it really hurting your account.
You dont have to buy the Mantis system. I bought a laser bore sight for $20, hung up a target in my living room, and dry fire practiced with it. It dramatically improved my aim when I was new to shooting because it gives quick feedback on what you're doing wrong. The only "training scars" that it will produce are obviously resetting the trigger after every shot and not controlling recoil. I haven't had either of these be a problem when I actually go to the range. Airsoft is obviously fantastic for dry fire practice, especially when gas blowback is involved, but I wouldn't discount a $20 bore sight that easily. It definitely can work
Support my burning of the advertiser Bridges by buying my patch and decals! Overtonwindex.com I probably proactively lost $10,000 on this video. Impressive!
I was probably nine or so when airsoft got big. I have many replicas that I use for trigger control and safety practices. I can’t say it’s 100% accurate to my real pistols, but I do still accept them as a viable source for repetition
Mantis benefit is it tells you if you’re moving the gun when pulling the trigger. Airsoft are naturally inaccurate making it difficult to tell if it’s you or the gun. But for manipulations, reloads, or most other things airsoft is king
I'd like to express my appreciation on behalf of the airsoft community that a real steel enthusiast sees an actuall value in our gear and doesn't just ridicule and mock it for not being the real thing. ❤❤❤. We are aware we are just adults dressing up and playing with toy guns. You don't have to tell and make fun of us.
Airsoft is just the champ and better yet you get to have fun if there’s an actual airsoft field nearby. I was a former airsoft ref, just didn’t have a good time taking a bb from a DMR to the neck
Heyo! I know its dry fire at home butttt if youre wanting to shoot outside. Green gas works just as well but is expensive af. Get a propane adaptor! Pretty cheap around $15ish and the tanks alone are also. But youll need some silicone lube. 2-3 drops before you stick the adaptor on is what I find works well. Then around 5-6 mags a few more drops. Cheaper in the long run, but the downside is the smell of propane. All greengas is, is propane without the smell and silicone oil added in. Hope this helps!
Only... you cherry picked one of their more expensive offerings. The Mantis X2 is only $99. Additionally, using an airsoft gun isn't going to simulate the actual firearm you're carrying - especially if you have an aftermarket trigger on your firearm, or have a fully kitted AR (sling, light, optic, ETC.) Have fun completely rebuilding your AR in toy form in order to train with something that closely resembles your rifle, when you could've just spent the $99 on the Mantis X2.
Mantis for sure helps with everything minus learning recoil control. I have both gbb airsoft and mantis systems. They both have their place but mantis brought my shooting game up so much so fast. And i dont have to clean up BBs
YEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH FUCKIN FINALLY PEOPLE RECOMMENDING AIRSOFT FOR DRY FIRE. Remeber folks, dry fire only, dont be that guy that says that hes mad accurate with his airsoft gun in the field and has never put his soft hands on a real deal. You still have to eventually actually practice with the real deal.
Did you mean to not keep the gas in the mags, or are you saying the bottle the gas comes in will eventually leak while in storage. Common sense dictates you meant the formerer since I don't imagine you can replace the o ring on a compressed canister, but for the sake of idiot proofing the comment I felt the need to point this out.
Airsoft works but the mantis system does more than just point a laser. It reads every step of your shots from holster draw to trigger pull. And they run on live ammo too, not just a laser and cute little BBs. I can also use it on my AR, shotguns carbines, pdw's and even bows and crossbows. $180 all in
I appreciate the use of airsoft for training, however, nothing beats training with your own weapon. I didnt see that vid by him, but guntubers are sponsored by the more expensive companies that can buy RUclips sponsors. Years ago before i saw any vids about these, i bought a reset mag and a laser tap "shell" on amazon for about 80 bucks i think. I just checked and you can aquire similar for about 115-120 depending on model of firearm. I still use them to this day. I've seen several companies trying to sell the same product for 200 or more but my setup works great, and is amazing for dryfire training. I literally drop in the laser tap shell, change my standard mag to reset and im able to practice all day. Again, i do appreciate the airsoft. But for 115 you can use your own gun, feel its trigger, and even though you cant see a shot hole (there are systems you can buy for more that will track this), you can record by phone or other and see where the laser strikes. Keep em high and tight, keep practicing, and prepare for anything.
So I’m 46 and just getting into firearms. I’m starting with airsoft. The Umarex 19x is exactly like the firearm, and just having it around as a tinker toy is conditioning my hands. ❤
Facts and airsoft games are some of the best training for using techniques like moving while shooting, using cover/concealment, and cqb indoor training. Bring steel plates too and see how tiring it gets Me and my Marine buddies love going out every few months. Really shows if your physical fitness is weak too
Right on Overton! Been training with AS for years. To train when it's cold, recommend to keep your gas warm. Also, AS is really good to learn to avoid the dead end of a gun, but you have to warm a T-shirt and eyes only. Pain changes how you think.
Green gas is great and all, but I would just go with a propane adapter that has the ability to ad oil to the propane. You will save SO MUCH MORE. Not even joking the cost difference is so much. Especially if you know how to refill the 1lb propane bottles or have a specially designed refillable 1lb bottle.
The mantis is actually a really good training tool. It allows you to train with the actual gun. Airsoft is good but really isn’t the same. Me and many of my friends have gotten so much better using the mantis than we ever did airsoft
i recieved mantis as a gift, the system works well. BUT I dont rack between shots for multiple shot engagements. i use it for dry fire from the holster drills. untill i splurge on the glock mag that reciprocates and works with mantis. but that sucker is like 275$
I remember switching from airsoft 1911 to real steel and some of the big difference was 1. recoil and 2. how much harder it was to rack the slide than I was used to.. other wise it was pretty much the same.
I looked into airsoft when I found out about the laser dry fire rounds. The laser round including the targets was around $100. The airsoft fun itself was around $250. I was looking at a CZ P10 so maybe it's different foe other gun airsoft clones
I've actually used both, and they both have their pros and cons. The best training is live fire, but these both are good substitutes for different aspects.
To be fair, Mantis X isn't a bore laser, although those are marketed by other companies like Coolfire. It is actually a very sensitive multi-sensor gyroscope-accelerometer system. It isn't cheap, but it gives you real-time feedback on what your muzzle is doing before, during, and after a shot goes off - with the last 2 steps missing for dry fire. It can be used for archery as well (not for dry fire, though. Don't dry fire bows of any kind).
Left out on accident: it tells you what you might be doing to contribute to muzzle movement, even if you're accurate by means of movement compensation. It can also be used with airsoft if you feel like it. A con I personally experienced: I have had one, and when I used it for live fire, it would overload somehow (a real problem that one would encounter with a system not designed and marketed for the purpose of live fire) and lose function until I restarted the device. I went through customer support to arrange an exchange. They were very courteous and replaced it free of charge, although they required me to return the unit in the original case and box. When I received the replacement, it had the same problem. Could be that they accidentally returned the original unit to me or that lightning struck twice. The third possibility is that I'm the problem because I let the gun flip too hard (which should be a pretty common issue, so I don't think that's it). The fourth possibility is that their QC is prone to an unacceptable rate of faulty units. This was with the $250 X10 unit, which is the most expensive option (which supports all commonly available weapons with or without rails). The dryfire-only X2, which works for both pistols and rifles, is $99 (which is similar to or maybe less than what you'd be paying for the shown pistol, ammo, and the air canister, let alone if you also wanted a rifle to practice with). That one point is (I hope inadvertently) deceptive on the part of the video editor. In short, the Mantis X2 is absolutely a cost-effective option to use on all the pistols and rifles you already have, but the X10 is significantly more expensive and versatile while possibly being less reliable for a use case not mentioned in this video. Hope this helps
I have a fully licensed airsoft replica of my XC. It is the same weight and set to the same weight of the trigger. I got the airsoft rep optic and light I run IRL. I can confirm that spending a little bit of time every day with it has stepped up my performance in IDPA matches.
Hehe, or live in AZ. We shoot in winter. But this a great tip for summer shooting. But I also like the laser training free apps and other brands are more affordable and can practice trigger and aim inside the AC
I love my airsoft Glock 17. Sure it’s not what I carry, but the muscle memory of drawing, picking up sights, reloading, and punching back out: all of that translates to the range pretty nicely. It helps if you use a light bearing holster, that way you can train with your range gear and just swap out the firearm. Not to mention the added safety aspect of having your ammo and firearm stored away while you’re flinging plastic bb’s at a piece of cardboard. Worth the extra money in CO2/Green Gas.
I love airsoft for dryfire. I have the airsoft version of both my Sigs, for my CZ Scorpion and now I need an AR15 similar to my Blackout Defense I ordered. Wish Blackout Defense would do licensed airsoft with someone! 🙏🏼 Liku proves airsoft is great for dryfire
You can do both, Use a coolfire trainer which turns most pistols into airsoft that weigh as much as the real thing because they are your actual gun with a barrel swap, with your trigger, with your optics. Mantis has settings for the gas blowback of airsoft or cool fire trainer, so you can get trigger work input while you use this. Yes it's more expensive, but it's your actual gun.

I've always combined the mantis x with my airsoft Glock replica. Absolute best system I've tried
Trust the gloves.
I’ve got both for my rifle, and I have to say the MantisX system is incredibly fun
You shouldn't release the gas because when its pressurised it keeps the O-ring seals in the right shape. Love your channel man!
Also can freeze and crack the gas route gasket
Thank you
This is so good

I mean you really did just spit a fact man why waste so much when you could just get an airsoft gun😅
After nearly 2 decades, it's finally starting to make sence to everyone lol

To be clear... sell me on a mantis, OVER and airsoft.
You actually can do holster practice if you get a magazine floorplate mount, which does require replacing the stock floorplate. Worth doing to a magazine? Up to interpretation
The 629 classic! It was my first gun… what a blast
Don’t purge your gas magazines like that! It can dry out and damage the o-rings, causing cracking that can make the mag begin leaking. It’s better to keep your magazines with only a teeny little bit of gas left in them to keep those o-rings lubed for future use
Best part about the mantis system is getting some trigger reps in when you cant affort ammo. And thats just postponing getting ammo.
You'll still need a few cases anyways.

😂
Support your local Airsoft store when getting your training aid. They will thank you.
I'm actually shocked you suggested airsoft. When I was younger and didn't have access to a range, I would use my airsoft replicas for practice. It worked out well. Thanks for supporting this as it's seriously an overlooked training tool when you don't have access or the money for a trip to the range every week.
Not only is airsoft the best way to train but you can actually test your rig load outs to as well.
The whole point of airsoft isnt about "the rig". It's about the environment. Where do you practice sports? In the street or on the field you'll be playing on? Same with airsoft. Practice where you'll meet the bad guy...... which isnt going to be at the range.
@@justhereforthalolz or in a airsoft field…..

Actually I think that guy is getting paid a gagillion dollars... if a furniture company wanted to sponsor him he would take it
The mantis is great if you can afford it.

In the winter I go to the range.

I have the MantisX 10 Elite. It’s awesome!
Only... you cherry picked one of their more expensive offerings. The Mantis X2 is only $99.
Additionally, using an airsoft gun isn't going to simulate the actual firearm you're carrying - especially if you have an aftermarket trigger on your firearm, or have a fully kitted AR (sling, light, optic, ETC.)
Have fun completely rebuilding your AR in toy form in order to train with something that closely resembles your rifle, when you could've just spent the $99 on the Mantis X2.
That’s actually the sickest thing I’ve seem
Mantis for sure helps with everything minus learning recoil control. I have both gbb airsoft and mantis systems. They both have their place but mantis brought my shooting game up so much so fast. And i dont have to clean up BBs
Thank you for saving me money, cuz. I love your channel
Thanks so much for this video, I’ve wanted one just because theyre cool and fun but now I have a need for one
It’s the “noooo” that does it for me. Lol
Just a tip from an airsoft guy, you should always keep gas in the mags or they’ll start leaking and need replacement O rings 👍
@@cobra29935its the magazines lol, and if you can find any o rings, which I highly doubt, the magazines are expensive
We are in debt to you sir! You have called out one smooth brain at a time, in a very fashionable way if I must admit
The ultimate insult
In the winter i wear shorts, flip flops, walk out back, sit down and shoot. In January i wear a hoodie in the morning.
Bring steel plates too and see how tiring it gets
Me and my Marine buddies love going out every few months.
Training is not the same as practicing.
Why do i feel like Dutch Van Der Linde is giving me a gun lecture
Green gas is great and all, but I would just go with a propane adapter that has the ability to ad oil to the propane. You will save SO MUCH MORE. Not even joking the cost difference is so much. Especially if you know how to refill the 1lb propane bottles or have a specially designed refillable 1lb bottle.
Both are correct, mantas is really good, airsoft is also really good.
The mantis is actually a really good training tool. It allows you to train with the actual gun. Airsoft is good but really isn’t the same. Me and many of my friends have gotten so much better using the mantis than we ever did airsoft
Exactly. The replicas has been the way to go, to really see and learn sights. I use co2.
Thank you for calling this boy out 😂😂
SIG actually makes their own Airsoft guns, bought an M17 to practice before we switched from the Beretta M9 and it feels very close to the real thing.
i recieved mantis as a gift, the system works well. BUT I dont rack between shots for multiple shot engagements. i use it for dry fire from the holster drills. untill i splurge on the glock mag that reciprocates and works with mantis. but that sucker is like 275$
I just like seeing his historical guns. Hes got a pretty neat collection.
You can keep the gas in the mags if your using green gas, saves a little bit and keeps ur mags lubed and pressurized
I’m so happy someone finally said this shi, and got on buddy 😂
Liku proves airsoft is great for dryfire
You can do both, Use a coolfire trainer which turns most pistols into airsoft that weigh as much as the real thing because they are your actual gun with a barrel swap, with your trigger, with your optics. Mantis has settings for the gas blowback of airsoft or cool fire trainer, so you can get trigger work input while you use this. Yes it's more expensive, but it's your actual gun.
