People need to relaxe with these transfers and rushing things with a new coach. Imagine if we signed Brandt, Reus and Gotze back in 2015/16 era instead of Mo and Mane just to make social media fans happy and satisfied..

I am Spanish and I followed Kubo for many years. Kubo is not a great scorer at the moment. Still he scored more goals than Nico Williams. Still, Kubo has great skills to link with other players and generate goal situations. Another issue that nobody mentioned is his capacity to generate money by attracting Japanese supporters.
He kinda was hot for the first half of the year and his finishing fell off like most wingers do
100% AGREE. People have short memory, FSG have done really well. They have been sensible and they don't go and buy players who doesn't fit. Most players they bought became world class.

Agree with so much of what you say. Generally, I think there's a spectrum among the fanbase, one extreme who is completely delusional and demands the club sign players for any price and asap, and the other extreme who don't seem to see any need of signings and seem to mix up realism with a lack of ambition. I agree with your points regarding our fan culture and what the club wants to represent in terms of transfers, and I particularly liked your point about the fundamental difference between Liverpool and Madrid supporters. As a Liverpool supporter I wouldn't want that to be any different.
Personally however, I do worry about the apparent lack of action because I fear for a situation like desperately having to sign Kabak, Davies or Artur Melo on loan because we weren't able to find the "perfect" fit. We had yet another injury crisis last season and now we're without Thiago and Matip, which is cause for concern. Is the squad really deep enough, especially considering fatigue and injury prone players? I'm not so sure.
I see your point regarding scouting and finding the perfect fit, but I do believe that sometimes perfect is the enemy of good. All that said, I hope we strengthen the back and look for a defensive midfielder.

Slot is just a coach. He does not need to be part of any transfer dealings. Assessing the squad is Richard Hughes' job and he should see the obvious gaps that are there.
Best replacement for Mo salah is Mo kudus not "Kubo".

Great video as always Lawrence, my perspective that I have gained from the last 10 years or so and maturing as a LFC supporter, is why the hell have we all become Financial accountants?? What does it honestly matter how much a player costs or wages? I get it, we want the club to be in line with Profit and Sustainability blah, blah. Great.
We also don't want to be swindled for deals, at the same time, players cost what players cost, and if we want to get "The best of the best" (which is what we are known for, or at least going out and making a deal happen for who we want) then we go and do it. I don't care on the cost, just get the deal done. Me buying a new kit, or paying for membership is not changing the club's position on the transfer. The finances of the situation are simply and shouldn't be our concern as fans!
This is my fundamental problem with FSG's ownership (which we were warned about from Red Sox fans when they came in). They have "managed our expectations", made us believe we cannot afford player A because of X,Y & Z. None of this is our problem to be honest. It highlights one of two situations:
1) They simply cannot afford to buy players above a certain market value, unless things happen, i.e. the famous "sell to buy" nonsense. Or,
2) They don't want to spend lots of money as they are keeping it for x. Who knows what that is.
Again wages bills, player fees, agent fees, net spend, none of this is any of our concern unless the club is being bled dry and we are in danger of liquidation, etc.

Back to my point. I just think the club should get an absolutely devasting player that wins games for his club. Some gambles have worked out, I admit, but a lot more have bombed. If we're looking at losing Salah or Diaz, we can't be taking chances on a guy we hope to be good for us. We just have to sign to win. Kudus, Lookman and Minteh off the top of my head are not as good as Salah but they play a similar and effective game. The runs, the confident shooting, dribbles etc. We get that from Doak, who is nowhere near the player that Salah is but that particular style can make help the team a lot more. All I am saying is, Kubo doesn't seem agressive enough, at least not yet.

But my one pet peeve with the club, Klopp, and fans is that they pretend to be poor. As if they didn’t break the bank on players like VVD, Allison, Keita, Nunez. Bid 80+M on Tchouameni, Jude, Caciedo, and Lavia.

The thing about Kubo not being a prolific goal scorer like Salah is just a ridiculous comparison because how many left-footed wide players are there right now who are? The Mane's and Salah's are difficult players to find direct replacements for, maybe even impossible. Liverpool might need more goals from midfield for example to compensate for what they will lose when Salah leaves.
Also I wouldn't say Mane was an elite player at Southampton. In his last season with the Saints, he went 19 games in a row in the PL without a goal. He was a good player who showed glimpses of elite skills. Which describes lot of players. The tricky bit is finding the player ready to go from being good to elite.

YES. 1) The first few Madrid european cups don’t count because it was a different competition. 2) Liverpool and Madrid are total opposites in terms of identity and approach.
No one's asking fsg to spend like Chelsea. We were asking them to back klopp a little bit more than they did. LFC feel short time and again in cups and leagues where across a league season or tournament a couple more world class players and therefore depth would have led to a couple more wins here and there competing better on 4 fronts each season and therefore more trophies in the long run

Waiting to see the full squad in training is not an excuse to delay signings - ultimately it might mean we miss out on players we NEED to succeed. We’ve needed another CB since Matip got hurt. Get it done. We ALL KNOW we need a proper 6. Get it done.

The fanbase is understandably getting antsy and paranoid over the lack of activity, but it's clear Liverpool are just trying to be diligent in their process and thinking long term about the foundation for the Slot's tenure moving forward. Whether or not that pays off, we can only wait and see, but for now, we should be backing the club and trusting in their decisions, at the very least it's still to early to be chewing them out over every bit of hear-say or rumor. I get the worry, it's not the ideal situation, but some people feel like they're moping in the hopes that the season will be a disaster just so they can be vindicated over their dislike of FSG, it reeks a bit

Liverpool are moving so slow and we are getting closer and closer to our first game. At the moment there is no certainty either in signings or securing Salah VVD and Trent on contracts. Just leads to more frustration
Stagnation is my only consistent criticism of Liverpool. My favorite type of signings are under 40mil that are just smart. Mac Allister is the perfect example and it was done early. Spending crazy money does not equal success. A smart transfer strategy and great coaching does. However, when there are clear and obvious holes in the squad like a DM, RW, or left-sided CB, I get very frustrated when those don't get properly addressed in the window. Proactive movements vs reactive is a huge difference. Too often we have been midseason with these holes in the squad now causing serious issues in the final product on the field (20/21 with CB's and 22/23 with midfielders). I just hope under this new regime we go back to the 2017-2019 type of transfer strategy. It was perfect.
I know Arne has to analyze the squad and see how they play and I know the Euros/Copa didn't help. But, players should have been identified long before the tournaments started. This is the period where deals should be wrapped up or at least very close so the players can maximize their preseason and get acclimated.

Assessing the squad is not Arne Slot's job. He is just a coach. Nothing more. It is Richard Hughes' job to assess the squad. So all the crap about Slot having to manage the players for a couple of years before they can make any decisions is just more FSG bullcrap.
Liverpool do need to sign some players specially in midfield but they do have a good squad so no need to panic too much it's like klopp said when transfer window comes don't forget how good these young players coming through are
Social media Liverpool fans are wild - it's always about shiny new thing and people go crazy about players that 6 months prior they didn't know existed. Likewise, they don't understand that we're not a team owned by a nation state and have to be smart in the transfer market because we have owners that are running the team like a sustainable business, not a vehicle for sportswashing. And even then we STILL spend money, just not on the shiniest new thing - Chelsea do that, how's that working out for them?

I don't care too much about new incomings, our squad probably has enough depth to win the league, we nearly did it last year until shit fell apart at the last couple of months. They have more experience now and more understanding of each other. The midfield last season was completely new and they got very close without any obvious leaders other than VVD Arne Slot will have his own interpretations of how the team should line up but paraphrasing a bit here Klopp would not have stepped down if the club wasn't in the right place to handle it. New signings are exciting but I don't really think we need to make many, maybe a DM but Bajcetic should be able to cover endo, and CB/LB is maybe the other area to strengthen.
This season is largely about how the whole ecosystem copes with the change from KLOPP as the leader to a more collaborative entity. That may not actually be how it worked in reality but that was how it was presented .

I just don't want another transfer window with the likes of Arthur Melo, Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak situation again. FSG should get a move on IMHO, since others are strengthening as we sit here dawdling. The contract situation with Trent, Salah and VVD is a complete joke. I don't think we can continue to rely on Edwards and Hughes pulling rabbits out of hats, as per Salah and Robbo years ago. We are Liverpool FC, and that should mean more than what it is at the moment.

I know I’m a dickhead Madrid fan. But generating ungodly sums of money for a fan owned club is not pedestrian, winning 6 champions leagues in one decade is certainly not pedestrian. I know the difference between Madrid and Barcelona or some other club like Juve, Bayern, United is not as big as we, the fans think, but I’m pretty sure it’s still waaaaaaay bigger that people outside of the fandom give it credit for. Where can you get a club that would make other players put their clubs in hostage situations in most cases just to force a move to Madrid because they think they’re nice and Madrid might give them a call?
I mean, is the core fanbase sometimes too impossible to please? Yeah. Kinda, but that’s why it’s the most special club out of all. All the best players “tests themselves in Madrid” unless you’re a Barca guy. Only one way to glory.
Expecting a signing that could replicate what Salah has done is nothing short of delusional. If by fluke it does happen, I will accept it without any guilt. If not, if Kubo or any other player chosen for the Salah position comes in and is an assist merchant, I'll accept it. Then the onus is on the person receiving the ball to convert. As long as it ends up in the back of the net, I'm happy.

I question why you keep referring to Edwards? He isn’t the director of football, that’s no longer his remit. Hughes is the director of football, and if we’re going by his previous track record, I see no evidence of him being able to consistently identify and close deals on elite talent. If you are then going to say Edwards has the final say, what is the point of Hughes! Jobs for the boys? The fact that Hughes has already said that Liverpool’s approach in this window will be opportunistic and not proactive worries me. If Liverpool fail to strengthen the squad in key areas we will revert back to a top 4 club. This would undo all the work that Klopp did to put us back where we belong, challenging for titles.

I know Japanese players very well.
Unfortunately, Kubo is an unstable player whose track record changes depending on the club he belongs to.
Kubo has not been good at all for the Japanese national team, scoring only 4 goals in 5 years.
Kubo hasn't even scored a goal in the CL.
Kubo has not played an active role at all in the Asian Cup recently.
I've loved Liverpool ever since Steven Gerrard was with them.
That's why I won't recommend Kubo to Liverpool even if he is Japanese.
