It is nice how the watch evolve. Props fo Seiko. It is just show that Seiko as manufacture is listen to their customer. The subtle changes, the improvement in their product, and their campaign of save the ocean. It really show that company understand its core. Too bad that its not address by many channels, because we see that are not many company willing to take time and effort to improve their product every year. The cyclop on the glass has diffent function than the Rolex cyclop. I think for Seiko it mean to let the day-date be seen in many diffent angles, and not to magnify it. Pet theory: Seiko ADs catch flawed watches, and instead of returning them to Seiko, they dump them on the grey market for quick cash. So when reviewers pick-up these watches, there are a lot of misaligned pieces in the mix.
Mightbe Sherwood I was thinking the same thing. So I went to look at Samurais and Turtles at Macy’s. All 3 Turtles and 3 out of 4 Samurais had chapter ring alignment issues. I think the QC issues are not unique to grey market watches.
The turtle is nice, it's good that they've made some tweaks to the watch construction itself and haven't just product different colours, made them limited and charge 2x for. This turtle you could convince yourself its genuinely worth the price increase
I really like the Turtel but i am just not that into new monster. New monster probably has better braclet but thats it. It doesnt look like proper monster. The old ones were just brutal. I still have my SRP581K1 and i am still wearing it daily. I had other monsters but this is my favourite and this new one doesnt do for me without that shark like teeth markers and brutal bezel
I like the insert on the Turtle but for the concentric circles. If those circles get a scratch, it’ll look terrible. They should have done ceramic but with the same color scheme. But I really dig that dial. Glad to see Seiko is making some refinements. The Monster, except for the magnifier, looks great. It’s finally starting to appeal to me.
The monster is using a gen1 crown, the gen1 limited edition candy bar cyclops magnifier, the gen 2 4r36 movement. Is the bezel the same size as previous monsters because I wanted to buy one of these and change the bezel to standard not black? Great video on the new monster, I learned a lot. Loving the bracelet end links, a real touch of class, the new case and bracelet clasp width. It’s an absolute banger and I will surely add one to my Seiko collection soon. Just ordered the Blue Coral SBDC067 after watching your & Bruce's vids, figuring the 4th gen monsters would be out soon to replace 3rd gen. I like the look of the 2nd/3rd gen - Seiko probably wanted to give the monster more mass appeal with the 4th gen redesign - but did they water down the cool quirky-ness? This is my 1st monster - looked for the orange but they were hard to come by.
Best thing about new Turtle is that Bezel traction - I HATE my PADI turtle just b/c of the slippery shiny bezel. *Turtle never had a SHARK theme* - why now? Seconds hand looks like Monster's with a fin end? Wish they would bring back the lolipop on the correct side of the second hand. Why didn't Seiko embrace the Turtle name and throw a sea turtle on there? I guess it's not fierce enough... I like to have multiple Monsters in diff colors, but one turtle feels like enough in anybody's collection...
This channel has definitely turned me into a fan of the monsters. So much so that I recently added a jade monster to the collection. I was initially very opposed to the gen 4 monster but I’ve warmed up to it a little bit after seeing it on camera. I still definitely prefer the previous style more.
The cyclops magnifying date window/Candy bar magnifier is easy enough to remove if you don’t like it or the fact it’s not straight, bit of heat from a hair drier and it will knock off, then clean the Crystal with some acetate or thinners, plenty of videos showing how to do this, the Steinhart fanboys do it all the time.
I have the SRPD27 and the SRP777, just got them not even a week ago, the SRPD27 is losing 30 seconds a day and the SRP777 is losing a whole minute a day... to say I’m disappointed would be an understatement, and I’m afraid to send the SRP777 in to the Seiko service center after all the horror stories I read online.. and as soon as I got them I wound them and set them according with the users manual, then registered them online for that extra year or warranty coverage.. now I’m hearing people sending their watch in with an internal issue then it coming back with scratches and a new internal issue... this is so frustrating.
Rob when will you do the full review on the new monster because I can hardly keep myself from pressing the button and ordering one before seeing your complete review on the good, the bad and the ugly.
Wha this up with Seiko and them not being able to get everything to just line up properly? I have only purchased one Seiko in my life and there was the Arnie reissue. I hade the watch for maybe two months and then flipped it for a profit. It had the sam alignment issues and QC issues. The watch just felt cheap for the price tag. I guess I am a bit spoiled coming from owning watches like the Marathon CSAR JDD, Citizen pro diver and Omega Planet Ocean. I just think there are other brands in these same price range putting out better quality.

Nice video. It sucks that they went from Caliber 6R15 to the Caliber 4R36 and none of the Monsters have Sapphire crystal they are all Hard Rex glass. However, new Monster is still good looking watch.

just bought the new monster in germany and the bezel isn't that loose on mine. also my date magnifier is pretty much spot on and not misaligned, seems like they fixed that.
I like the new STO "Great White" Turtle because it doesn't have the PVD black coating on the bezel and crown like the first STO Turtle did. More cohesive, in my view. I wonder what the material is for the bezel insert? Seiko doesn't think we need a magnifier on the SXK or Turtle's day and date indicators. Why in the world did they think that the Gen 4 Monster needs one? That needs to go, with prejudice.
Do you know if the Monster crystal is the same size as the last? I have a black monster just like your orange, and it is my favorite to wear of the collection. I replaced the crystal with a dbl done AR sapphire. First thing I would do to the new one to get rid of the mag window. Not fan. If I can replace that crystal right away then I am all in. I like the updated style. Still prefer the old crown though.
i doubt this is the new turtle. they are calling this the jdm version of the save the ocean. they have one in the turtle and one in the samurai so far. not too sure of the monster. might be a reiteration if they are using new movement.
New Monster, No. New Turtle, Yes. The monster is a step back or almost like a Seiko 5 version. Candybar cyclops, horrid, and that misalignment is warranty exchange worthy. The Gen3 cyclops is bad enough. Case and bezel redesign is a backwards step, not forwards. Handset and bracelet are about the only OK changes, the dial and lume look good. The turtle however with subtle improvements is much better all round.

Such a shame they have downgraded the movement on the new monster, to me this is not the true likeness of monster , the original monster was the best an iconic watch but this one ??? I am lucky to get my ice monster on time although stil sold new on eBay
nasir uddin , the 4R36 movement was used in all Gen2 fang monsters, the 6R15 was used in the gen3’s, people complained about the price hike saying monsters are not affordable, now with this new gen4 they’ve reduced the price and gone back to the 4R36. The original monsters movements 7S26 and 7S36 were not even hackable. The 4R36 movement is a bullet proof work horse and is a perfectly good movement. I think most people buying monsters would prefer the price reduction and don’t even consider or care about the movement. If you’re a collector you know the gen3 movements are superior. It’s personal preference, I like all generation of monster but for me you can’t beat the dial of a Gen2 toothed/fang monster. I will never sell my Dracula. This gen4 is just evolution of a brand and I’m excited by what else is in the pipe line.
Jaybee Eff yes you are right that people were complaining about the high price but the problem is they have only reduced the price by $36 so I can’t see big drop in price as you can see on their website the sbdc073 is 60000jpy and this one is 56000jpy
nasir uddin . Different prices over here by quite a margin between a gen3 and gen4 and the gen4 prices will drop once more hit the market and their novel value diminishes.
Getting the 035, can’t wait for this streamlined monster on premium silicone. I do fear, however, that I’ll be very upset if that hardlex candy bar catches a ding...

Random Rob this guy shows the process pretty well . Key is to have a very small and hot flame as to not damage anything. You can literally see the glue underneath change colour after a few seconds and then I just flick them off .. ruclips.net/video/ycgh7GM8kMc/видео.html

I prefer turtle for the classic design.. this one seems nice. But I don’t find these ocean blue themes appealing. Ironic maybe haha, I have the black/gold 775.
@@gentleman_of_the_pen the difference isn't much, some prefer the JDM models? both offer the same quality in my opinion, however I like the Malaysia version more because of show ability! also come with a Stainless steel bracelet.... that a plus for me! I love my turtle....

I really enjoy the videos on this channel - much respect. There seems to be a trend in this thread that people who did not like the former versions of these watches now like them, and fans of the older ones are now put off a bit. The turtle and the monster used to be tool watches with a very distinct seiko design language (going back to taro tanaka). They hit the nail on the head with the new turtle, a respectful re-run of the 6309. Not too fancy, and thereby a great watch that you can actually use as a beater. The first monsters - crude, machined, brutalist and unmistakably seiko design. Now a dressed up overthought piece of styling for your wrist with the ridiculous rolex cyclops that they failed to fit properly. They did the same to the stargate, if anyone remembers. Took a good design and ruined it. All the razzle-dazzle on the dials, the texture on bezels, the gimmick seconds hand. Death by styling. I hope seiko will stop watering out these classic designs with special/limited "new and improved" editions and put their focus back on the design dna and quality control.

Coral easily has more pop, I held on to the jade longer but sold both.

Both look really good! I prefer the SKX too, but I would rock that Turtle. Try it on a canvas or two piece nato.

Ok. Some drawbacks are the larger 45mm case size and the lum which is not as bright as the lum on the monster.

Random Rob this guy shows the process pretty well . Key is to have a very small and hot flame as to not damage anything. You can literally see the glue underneath change colour after a few seconds and then I just flick them off ..

I prefer turtle for the classic design.. this one seems nice. But I don’t find these ocean blue themes appealing. Ironic maybe haha, I have the black/gold 775.

Sbdy31, it has more going on then just the dial and hands.
So SBDY031 is basically identical with SRPD21, except that SBDY031 is for the JDM?
Case and movement the same, most of the other parts are much different

On that Turtle, Is it a JDM model?? There are variations between the Malaysia models and the JDM's... I love that dial forsure!
It looks like a JDM model and is made in Japan. I know the ones they sell in my country are slightly different and not made in Japan.
@@gentleman_of_the_pen the difference isn't much, some prefer the JDM models? both offer the same quality in my opinion, however I like the Malaysia version more because of show ability!

Cold will I think it’s because he prefers the dials on the Turtles. He’s not just going for the movement; he’s mostly after the dials.

There seems to be a trend in this thread that people who did not like the former versions of these watches now like them, and fans of the older ones are now put off a bit.
The turtle and the monster used to be tool watches with a very distinct seiko design language (going back to taro tanaka). They hit the nail on the head with the new turtle, a respectful re-run of the 6309. Not too fancy, and thereby a great watch that you can actually use as a beater. The first monsters - crude, machined, brutalist and unmistakably seiko design. Now a dressed up overthought piece of styling for your wrist with the ridiculous rolex cyclops that they failed to fit properly. They did the same to the stargate, if anyone remembers. Took a good design and ruined it. All the razzle-dazzle on the dials, the texture on bezels, the gimmick seconds hand. Death by styling.
I hope seiko will stop watering out these classic designs with special/limited "new and improved" editions and put their focus back on the design dna and quality control.
