For starter items, I'd recommend the backpack and coat. Being able to carry more and be protected from the elements are extremely useful at the start. I think these two items provide the most benefit. You can craft weapons and tools immediately that get the job done and food is not an issue either. This is especially true since the starter location has been changed and made the start of the game much, much easier. I also would advise looting the cave and then immediately following the shore heading east a long ways around to an inlet that cuts pretty deep into the interior of the island and build your first base at the end of that inlet. There are tons of resources within easy reach from that location. On your way, harvest every date tree along the way but other than that beeline it to the inlet and don't waste daylight exploring locations along the way. Once you have a base established you can go back and explore then.
@Christian-cz9bu It's your choice. I didn't think of that option because getting a raft at the start is part of the new tutorial. It might be quicker to get there by boat, but I don't know for sure. I'd have to start a new game to test that. After watching Kage's second video, I see that they added a partially built base and materials at that location so it suggests the devs want folks to build there too.
I feel like it should be randomized what you can get, perhaps some minigame for 'grab stuff before fire spreads' with timer, then from what you've picked up, you can choose what two items to keep.
Rested bonus for furnishings would be a good move. Happy you're doing this again, Kage. Like you, I played it from the early version and loved the videos, too.
I have not played this game in a loon time, but i believe you can now, eventually repair the stuff you get from the ship. Enemies turning red is something you can turen on/off in settings... It shows you they are attacking you. So when the dog wasn't red was because it had not yet turned around to attack you again. I would suggest repairing your raft completely and upgrade it.. It will be well worth it ;)
Did not expect tht you wont take backpack - huge disatvantage and you left 2 pieces of lore on the ship Killing 3 crabs and upgraiding raft before going to Island of Hope could be good way to start You need all sikls so dont avoid repairing
Now you go and play and upload 30+ minutes of a game you don't know very well. Then we will all tell you what you did wrong. Hope that's what you are looking for.
@@eriklarson9137 This is not first series for this game that Kage is doing. He allways did take backpack before so i just was surprised. Plus you actualy can make first upgrade of the raft that has storage chest before you use it (need to repair it first tought) and take aditonal resources from that small island. But dont forget all of those are only opinions or sugestions - only the one making video has right to chose what he will do
This game looks like many potential blueprints are triggered by either picking something up, harvesting things, or making a thing. So picking up at least one of everything, and making one of everything seems to be a good strat. Don't ignore new things you see. If you pick something up, you can always drop it again. And just because you can make a more advanced item, it's probably best to make just one of the crappier version first just in case.
Each “sickness” has 3 or 4 levels of it, obviously it gets worse over time but also has a small chance to cure on its own. Sleeping in a warm bed with no side effects I.e. wet hurt or very sick has a chance to also cure it. Sleeping when wet or to warm also had a chance of making you sick. Also each level is said sickness will take more meds, one med won’t cure a level 3 burn or flu. You will have to use more or it had a chance of just getting worse again
You can go to your inventory highlight the item and on the bottom right corner you'll see "blueprints" click it and it will take you to all the items you can craft with that item then choose what you all wanting to create.
Sailors sept in hammocks on warships because of the amount of space available aboard. Hammocks could be swung up allowing for a lot of sleeping men in confined spaces and then be either stowed away freeing up space and the packed hammocks would be then stowed in places where they could act as protection from splintering resulting from cannon solid shot entering the hull. Or, they would remain for the sailors getting off watch. There were four watches aboard and thus four watch divisons.two of which occurred at night - 0000 to 0800.
I like to put a dock on both sides of the island and put storage chests on the outer perimeter of the island and then when I get the raft I use it to drive around the island picking everything up and even though you're surely overweight you can still fast travel and travel normally in the raft. you just need to gimp yourself on and off the raft. By the time I get to my base location I have about a thousand pounds.
I'm glad they've improved the game since the (Demo?) that was a few months ago. It was burning my GPU/CPU up back then and had some serious issues with the building system.
The axe and the firestarter? You should have taken the backpack and the red coat. Backpack gives you extra inventory slots and the coat gives you great protection against the weather and aninal attacks. You won't be able to craft better armour until much later in the game.
I hope so too, but I like it when they build the single player properly instead of building co-op first, and then having balancing issues turning it into single player.
That’s sad I loved the really hard start to this game, made it a challenge to survive. Them giving you a boat is kinda lame as well, was a huge accomplishment when you build the first one. But still fun just easier now, took me about 60 hours to beat. The end feels rushed but what game doesn’t now

It's been a little under a year since I last played this and it seems that they've made things a bit easier, at least from the start. Not really sure how I feel about that. I kind of enjoyed the struggle to survive in the beginning, and I don't like how they made it so easy to get your first raft. In any case, it may be time to give this game another run.
I think that's a great thing to address in options. Some people love barely surviving or dying over and over. I didn't believe it until I met people like that over the years. But I still want the game to be enjoyable for people that like challenges but not constant frustration. Like me.
