Yes. Nothing makes the concept of conditioning your opponent so clear as watching them change their play style completely after getting hit by a couple SPDs
I play Zangief since I had no choice due to Alex and Hugo not being in the game so I made do, but over time I grew to appreciate him a lot more and love playing him despite some gripes with some of his moves. Plus he's one of the few characters I found myself devoted to learning, I'm not that great with him at all but compared to how I play other characters in the game I feel more secure with him.
I used to play shotos back in SF2 days, then after 15+ years SF4 came, and shoryukens weren’t as imba as SF2, and throws were everywhere. So I used the guy with the simplest anti air, and the one that people fear to throw (command grabs win throws) Of course, fast forward another 15 years, and Zangief lost some reliability of the anti air, and though it makes no sense, normal throws over take command grabs now. I no longer play Zangief because it’s an easy solution for my weakness. I now play Zangief because my blood is as red as the Red Cyclone. “Show me everything you have!” “I’ll take on all of you!”
"Play the shoto character long enough to eventually switch to the grappler." I've done the same as you. The thing that got me into Zangief was it was actually easier for me to pull off a 360 motion and not rely heavily on combos compared to other characters. Haven't looked back since 😎
Memes and hype aside. I genuinely like long reaching normals that slap the taste out of your mouth, and command grabs that make you feel stupid for holding down back. My player fantasy is to make someone afraid and then punish them for being scared. Gief having decent stagger pressure with his plus lights and viciously dangerous headbutt into hellstab or a light even and of course SPD to threaten people who try to downback forever. Give the man a very good reaching 4f low and man - despite all my other issues with him? I still find great joy in this character. Memes *back* on the table, however.. there is little in any fighting game that's as funny to me as doing spd in neutral against someone who has failed to defend their space. No frame trap, no spacing trap, no trap of any kind. You let me get close now perish. 5 frames. 5 beautiful frames that will outspace some medium buttons and do as much damage as the average meterless combo. Spd is a beloved special button that makes it genuinely difficult for me to play any other character. I will recognize this is not optimal most of the time and accept that it is in fact a bad habit that will hold me back, of course .. but I'm also going to keep doing it.
I play Zangief because: - He looks like a proper wrestler in SF6, as said in the video the animations are amazing, small details gives him life. - I love to see my opponent life bar disappear so quickly and I can feel the fear they are experiencing - I don't need to learn frame perfect combos to be effective, while he requires a good understanding and mastering of fundamentals and universal tools, he is not too execution heavy.
I play Zangief for multipurpose. I love the charracter and his move, I love to feel the fear of my opponent. And I'm really bad at combo. So, MY LOYAL FAN!
I picked up zangief in SFV as the first character to really learn fighting games with because my friend who I'd always buttonmash with started learning combos and I needed a character that could do simple big damage without needing to learn complicated combos. There's still a lot of execution with gief but he lets you start playing the game with less of an execution barrier. Now I'm a grappler and can never go back.
I am playing zangief since sf2, the main reason is that he was the last character that people wants to play with, as he doesn’t have fireball or shoryouken, and people werent confortable with the 360
I’m more of a Hugo guy, but THE GIEF will always have a special place in my heart. Until Hugo gets added to the game Zangief will be my beloved main. Consider me a loyal fan.
You guys ever notice the amount of steam and sweat gief sprays everywhere when he does certain moves. This dude creates a whirlpool of sweat in the air when he 2hps. kinda gross... but also awesome
i played gief initially because i hate dp motion and charge motions, now i keep playing gief because i prefer having near total control over the match just by existing in an area, i feel like i force my opponents to act regardless of what im doing and usually they end up leaving themselves out to dry while i play a really relaxed game (exclusions for the devil made trio may apply)
Got any advice on how to deal with people who are burnt out but just run away until they get their drive guage back? If I chase them they can turn on me on a dime and combo me away but If I dont give chase then they can get their meter back for free and will have no fear burning themselves out again. Just an issue im struggling with atm.
I’m not sure if my scrubby methods work, but don’t advance in too fast while you move towards them. Don’t keep jumping, use front heavy kick and especially front medium kick to close some distance. When they are in burnout mode, for my low level plays I like to use forward medium kick, followed by a SPD or a down light punch, which can then use front medium kick again randomly to exert pressure. I always keep a couple of bars for OD Lariat for anti air (but I keep a distance to predict the jump) - if you always get cross up, you can occasionally do a back jump and use HK or HP to counter them. If you’re skilled enough, to stop a cross up you can do a vertical jump HP and combo into an air SPD.
I personally like to just let them walk themselves back into the corner. There's better answers that are more character specific, of course, but without any other information I just accept that gief is too slow to run someone down so instead I walk them down and try to avoid getting my approach stuffed. stand medium and heavy punch both become plus while they're burned out so don't be too shy about pestering them even more with those. Especially since they can't DI those buttons anymore.
I play Gief simply because I'm a dude in my 30s who's been playing fighting games my entire life that still can't do combos lmfao Gief is a character that I've actually gotten to Master with only knowing like 3 simple AF combos lol If I was anyone else I would be Bronze lmfao
hi all please help me i still dont understand frame data plus VS mines and what plus moves are good against mines moves ? how can use this knowledge in training mode ?
It's a very long thing to understand, but you can start by checking two buttons: 2lp and headbutt, since both give +1 and +4 respectfully (on block). Almost everything Gief has is plus on hit. And drive rush adds 4 frames on top of what you get. If you come to the stream, I can give you a more detailed answer. Or I could do a video, depending on the interest.
It's simple: Command Grabs are the biggest dopamine rush in fighting games, at least IMO
because I get to take you all into my loving arms and show you that you're understood.
I play Zangief because it visibly strikes fear into the heart of my opponent!
Yes. Nothing makes the concept of conditioning your opponent so clear as watching them change their play style completely after getting hit by a couple SPDs
I SPD> They jump >borsch dynamite/rolling kick> they crouch or DP> They die
Don’t forget punish counter SPD on Akuma for well over 1/3 of his health. Probably the highest damage-per-second move in the entire game!

La satisfacción y el Hype después de un LVL3 My loyal fans, es inigualable, todo un crack el Gieff! JORASHOOOOO
I hate grapplers in games historically but Zangief has that charisma and aura around him that makes him a joy to see on screen for me.
agreed. SF6 Gief is the best animated, best looking version of Gief ever.
I play Gief because he’s simple and I hate myself
HAHA same
Carisma, dano absurdo. É uma luta mental mais do que de habilidade de execução. Impor respeito, limite e punir os incautos. Horocho!!!
Charisma, absurd damage. It's a mental struggle more than one of execution skill. Impose respect, limits and punish the unwary. Horocho!!!

In some way Zanguief inspires me, the challenge of play with him and then the satisfaction when i get it💪🏻💪🏻

BECAUSE WE BRING THE HYPEEEEE!!!!!!!
I play Zangief for multipurpose. I love the charracter and his move, I love to feel the fear of my opponent. And I'm really bad at combo. So, MY LOYAL FAN!
Some of us have done bad things in life, so we play Zangief as self imposed punishment.
and all the HYPE FOR MY LOYAL FANS!

Bcos this version of Zangief required alot of heavy read, and you feeel very satisfied when you get the right read.

I will say fighting against Zangief is really fun.

Air spd most satifying for me
I first played grappler in alpha 2. Doing agrapple gives me enough dopamine to last a day
I play Zangief because I'm a masochist.
One word: FUN
I like when health go chunk 🦍
i came for the Front Mission 3 Ost
SF6 Gief’s design is so much better than in SFV. At the time I thought he was over-hated, but wow looking back it was pretty bad.
é muito divertido e ao mesmo tempo estressante !
mas é Muito satisfatorio acertar um Level 3!

I dunno why I play him. I lose WAY more than I win but he’s by far who I play most. Makes no sense.
I like to win, but I'll be ok as long as I get some clips 😂
If you like to win then playing zangief is a good choice, he's really good and basically makes manon redundant

would be nice to combo into level 1 from lariat lol
