You're very knowledgeable! I had extremely oily skin, enlarged pores & started using éclat salicylic acid cleanser 2 x day and for my evening routine, I alternate between glycolic acid face mask followed by hyaloronic acid serum by Ordinary 2-3 times per week and the other days use retinol for evening routine. I use Niacinamide serum by Ordinary for daytime. These products have made such a difference in my skin. My pores are much smaller, my skin is is not as greasy & my skin is smoother.
Hey! 😊 Thank you for your feedback! I'm thrilled to hear that your current routine is working well for you and that you've already noticed such a significant difference in your skin! 😊
Hi Melissa! I layer glycolic and hyaluronic acids a little bit different in my PM routine. After cleaning my face and apply my rose water toner, I use on dumped skin the hyaluronic acid. When it is fully absorbed, I apply the glycolic acid and I continue with my moisturizer. Generally I layer all that moisture on my skin as "sandwich" and that feels great 👍.

And lots of people think that it needs to have water drops on the skin surface because they believe that it can absorb more water. After all, lots of articles tell this, and even some "online dermatologists" show it. I do not know why 🤷♀️ the only thing they achieve is a formulation that does not work well, and when used on its own, it feels sticky or tight because they mixed it with water 😏 but they think it has absorbed the water.🫣
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I will use hyaluronic acid as you say. The think I wanted to tell you is how I layer all that (HA- GLYC- MOIST, sandwich method) and if that's OK. As I have already told you, your advice is precious to me. Thx and have a beautiful Sunday 😍 .
It is just that I get daily comments where people think they need to add water to the face after/before applying a product with hyaluronic acid. Or they have to have some drops on the face. Then they complain that they have little bits on the face and think that Hyaluronic Acid is an exfoliant. So I wanted to clarify it. Still, it wasn't that clear, as you can see when reading the other comments under this video 😕 I recorded another one today, and hopefully, it is more understandable. And after that, you still can adjust it, but best not to overdo it by adding multiple products to it, especially not the retinoids you mentioned. When using them, you need to be careful and not overuse other products as these are very potent treatments, and the skin needs a few weeks or months to get used to them.
Hi Melissa, just discovered your channel, so helpful for me who wants to try new skin care routine. I just bought Cosrx salicylic acid cleanser and Pixi Glow Tonic (glycolic acid). Are they good combination? Thank you! Btw your skin looks so flawless 🥰
Yes, however, if you use a Glycolic Acid cream, I recommend using the Aloe Vera Gel first, letting it absorb, and then following with your Glycolic Acid cream.
is glycolic acid suitable for skin prone to mild rosacea? Everytime I use glycolic acid my redness worsens maybe I need a lower dose? It doesn't happen with most other acids Honestly, I thought salicylic was better for dry skin than glycolic. Glycolic seems harsher.
Hello :) Glycolic Acid is an AHA; it has the smallest molecules that absorb quickly into the skin, making it the strongest. As a result, it often leads to skin sensitivity. It is used to loosen dead skin cells on the skin surface and for sun-damaged skin, such as dark spots and also increases Hyaluronic Acid within the skin and thickens it making it more suitable for dry skin. Salicylic Acid is BHA in skincare which penetrates deeper into the skin as it can break the oil, which AHAs cannot do, so it can get deep into the pores and has anti-inflammatory benefits. Therefore, it is more suitable for oily skin. It may be helpful for rosacea-prone skin, and it is generally recommended because of how it works, but I do not know if it does anything since I cannot test it for myself. But you can try it, start with a 1% if you can. I have an entire video about setting up a skincare routine where I also go over it, which you can find right here: How to Build a Skincare Routine and What Products Do I Need?: ruclips.net/video/8gLrr2wbi_8/видео.html
Thank u so much. For this video. I have a question. For my morning routine I am using mizon peptide serum and for night time good molecules discoloration serum that contains tranxamic acid. I want to use Paula's choice 2 % BHA. But I have heard that u can not use direct acids with peptides. So I wanted to know how can I incoprate it in my routine. Or other products with BHA like cerva cleanser and benton BHA toner?
I am not 100% sure. But from my understanding, there are different types of peptides, and some are sensitive to the pH and may influence it quickly, whereas others aren't. But then it also depends on the formulation if it is sticky or more liquidish. So it is not so easy to say. I suggest going with the brand's recommendation. If they do not say anything, you are likely safe to use it. Or best write them an email and ask if you should avoid it!
Hey Melissa, usually I am struggling with acne for the time being. So basically I use the Cerave Acne Foaming cream cleanser 4% benzoyl Peroxide in the morning with the Cerave AM moisturizing lotion and at night with the PM moisturizing lotion. So my question is how do you advice me to put Gyconic and hylonic acid since I want to make face bright and clear. Thank you!
Do you have oily acne-prone skin? If so, Salicylic Acid is way more suitable; Glycolic Acid often makes the skin oily. But anyway, using these in combination with Benzoyl peroxide formulations can become very irritating over time. I advise only using one of them: Glycolic, Salicylic Acid, or Benzoyl Peroxide. Still you could use Hyaluronic Acid before the moisturizer, or instead of your moisturizer. Or adding a couple of drops to it if needed.
Hi Melissa, thank you for all the wonderful videos you've created and helped with. I recently bought The Ordinary Glycolic acid but only after I bought it I have read all the ways I cannot use it... My current routine is: Morning: only water to clean face, Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner, The Ordinary Nicinamide, The Ordinary Buffet, Moisturise and Sunscreen Evening: Hanskin Pore Cleansing Oil PHA, Cosrx Low PH Morning Cleanser, Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner, Niacinamide, The Ordinary Buffet, The Ordinary Retinol 5%, Moisturise. Is this a good routine? Now I have no idea where to use the Glycolic Acid as all of these products don't seem to work with it, is that right? Should I use it as an exfoliant on it's own every other night. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Hey! :) Overall your routine looks good. Glycolic Acid should not be used with Buffet as they conflict nor with Retinol because this can lead to sensitivity. Use Buffet only in the AM and alternate between Glycolic Acid and Retinol in the evening.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Yay, thank you so much, that's good to know! Is it ok to use Glycolic acid with the Niacinamide? And should I use the Gycolic acid instead of the toner in the evening? Thank you again for replying and help :)
Hi sis iam applying serum fory face , and after one hour iam going to gym it sweat a lot will my serum also loses from my skin or what plz say sister 🖤
If you want to use both glycolic acid toner and tranexamic acid in your skincare routine, it's generally recommended that you use them on alternate days or at different times of day. This will give your skin a chance to adjust to each product and avoid over-exfoliation or irritation. For example, you could use the glycolic acid toner in the evening and the tranexamic acid in the morning. Alternatively, you could use the glycolic acid toner one day and the tranexamic acid the next day, and so on.

@@pemayangchin6148 Yes, you can layer Hyaluronic Acid toner and Tranexamic Acid. Here are a few tips: Topical medications: There are several topical medications that can be used to treat melasma, including hydroquinone, tretinoin, and azelaic acid. These medications work by reducing the production of melanin in the skin, which can help lighten the dark patches. Chemical peels: Chemical peels can help improve the appearance of melasma by removing the top layer of skin, which can be discolored. There are several types of chemical peels available, including glycolic acid and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels. Laser therapy: Laser therapy can be an effective treatment for melasma, particularly in cases where other treatments have been unsuccessful. Laser therapy works by targeting the pigmented areas of the skin and breaking up the excess melanin. Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that can help improve the appearance of melasma. It involves using a device to exfoliate the top layer of skin, which can help lighten the dark patches. Sun protection: It is important to protect your skin from the sun to prevent further damage and to help reduce the appearance of melasma. This includes wearing protective clothing and using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. But it is important to work with a doctor to determine the best treatment for your individual case of melasma.
While washing your face, your skin absorbs some water, making it damp. The remaining water is what you see on the skin surface. Your skin will remain moist for about 30 minutes. So you have a timeframe where the skin absorbs the product better. Also, the serums are water-based; therefore, you automatically add more water to the skin. So when you now use a moisturizer or specific serums that are a bit sticky, you are creating a mixture on the surface that can easily pill (ball off on the skin surface, looking like your skin), which is the access product that dried on the surface. Which most often happens because of that. Another issue may be that the water you use may not be the cleanest (in western society, not as often, or very rarely). However, still, you are creating this bacterial/dirty mixture on the skin, which may cause even more issues. The serum is clean therefore making it always the better choice. But if you have no issues, you can do it, but it will not have any benefits.
Question: when you come across a cleanser that says you can't use it in the eye area, do you have another cleanser at hand to clean the eye area, or just leave that area out 🤔
Generally, if it does not irritate the eyes, you can use it. But, except for exfoliating acid cleansers there, I suggest avoiding it. And in that case, you need another cleanser for that area, or if you have sunscreen or makeup on, you must remove that first with micellar water or an oil or balm cleanser (which I think works best), but if I do not wear any makeup/sunscreen on these areas, I leave it out. That is how I usually do it when just regularly washing my face, especially in the morning.
Hi sister my serum and mositurizer contains hyaloroc acid first i apply my serum in damp skin then I need again to damp my face and apply mositurizer or serum in damp and mosturizer in dry plz say
Hey, if I have the caffeine solution do I use it like this: cleansing, glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide then the caffeine solution under my eyes and then moisturiser? Also can I use all the products under my eyes and also can does moisturising after move all the products around? Thanku :)
Technically I would be like this: Cleanse face apply Glycolic Acid apply Caffeine Solution apply Hyaluronic acid apply Niacinamide apply Moisturizer But since they are all water-based, you can change the order of the serums as you like. If you use the right amount of each serum, it should not move around. But you may not even need the moisturizer; the serums often contain everything you need. Especially if you have normal to oily skin.

While it's not the norm, many people are sensitive to glycolic acid. If you're continually experiencing sensitivity, it's likely best to switch to another AHA, such as lactic acid or mandelic acid. So, you would use lactic acid instead of glycolic acid. Even though lactic acid is a serum, it can be applied at the same step. Remember, hyaluronic acid is solely for hydration and doesn't serve as an exfoliant.
Hey I have paula choice 2% bha and ordinary glycolic acid and glow recipe retinol, also vit c cream Please advise how and when to use all these products My skin is acni prone and also acni spots
When I was in Australia, we had a Spanish guy who always complained about the English "language" that was wrong in every way, which I agree with. Acni is how they pronounce it, and they write it differently. I really think that we can write and speak it just as we like since it does not make any sense and nobody will ever change it since it is highly influenced by money. Anyway, you have ingredients that do not work well together. So, therefore, my advice is to alternate days. But before I can help you better, I have to know the % of retinol you are using and what Vitamin C cream do you use? The Ordinary...?

If you have The Inkey List 30 Vitamin C Serum/Cream, do not use it in the same routine when using Paula's Choice BHA. So, either use both in the evening and alternate between them or use the BHA in the AM and Vitamin C in the PM. What's your skin type?
The Peeling Solution contains 30% alpha-hydroxy acids (glycolic/lactic/tartaric/citric acid) and 2% beta hydroxy acid (salicylic acid). So Lactic Acid is already in the peeling solution, so it is unnecessary to use it again. After using it, it potentially leads to a damaged skin barrier or skin irritation. Use it when not using the peeling solution. So on other days, but after the peel, it may be best to give your skin a rest of 1-2 days and then start using it again. But it would be best if you found the right balance for your needs.
@@hadiakhan4293 For that, you need to protect it as long as possible from UV rays. Yes, so it comes down to what the products do to the skin. Generally, exfoliating acids are used before these serums/treatments. (you can check out the video I linked in the other reply.)

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you, Melissa 🥰 you're the best!
Hello dear what would be the routine for oily skin with clogged pores and black head little forehead wrinkle
Have a look at Salicylic Acid (BHA), Niacinamide and Retinol/Differin Gel.
Do not use your exfoliant and Retinol or Differin Gel in the same routine.
Can I use aloe vera gel as a moisturiser after using glycolic acid cream?
Yes, however, if you use a Glycolic Acid cream, I recommend using the Aloe Vera Gel first, letting it absorb, and then following with your Glycolic Acid cream.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet ohh okay but I'm a beginner is it okay?
Yes, what matters is that your skin tolerates the Glycolic Acid cream well.

is glycolic acid suitable for skin prone to mild rosacea? Everytime I use glycolic acid my redness worsens maybe I need a lower dose? It doesn't happen with most other acids
Honestly, I thought salicylic was better for dry skin than glycolic. Glycolic seems harsher.
Hello :)
Glycolic Acid is an AHA; it has the smallest molecules that absorb quickly into the skin, making it the strongest.
I have an entire video about setting up a skincare routine where I also go over it, which you can find right here:
How to Build a Skincare Routine and What Products Do I Need?:
ruclips.net/video/8gLrr2wbi_8/видео.html
Just wondering if you are a dermatologist? Enjoy your videos. Thank you!
No, but be careful with online "dermatologists". And thank you very much :)
My current routine is:
Morning: only water to clean face, Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner, The Ordinary Nicinamide, The Ordinary Buffet, Moisturise and Sunscreen
Evening: Hanskin Pore Cleansing Oil PHA, Cosrx Low PH Morning Cleanser, Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner, Niacinamide, The Ordinary Buffet, The Ordinary Retinol 5%, Moisturise.
Is this a good routine?
Now I have no idea where to use the Glycolic Acid as all of these products don't seem to work with it, is that right? Should I use it as an exfoliant on it's own every other night. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Hey! :)
Overall your routine looks good.

Can we layer glycolic acid toner with tranexamic acid?
If you want to use both glycolic acid toner and tranexamic acid in your skincare routine, it's generally recommended that you use them on alternate days or at different times of day. This will give your skin a chance to adjust to each product and avoid over-exfoliation or irritation.
For example, you could use the glycolic acid toner in the evening and the tranexamic acid in the morning. Alternatively, you could use the glycolic acid toner one day and the tranexamic acid the next day, and so on.

@@pemayangchin6148 Yes, you can layer Hyaluronic Acid toner and Tranexamic Acid.
Here are a few tips:
Topical medications: There are several topical medications that can be used to treat melasma, including hydroquinone, tretinoin, and azelaic acid.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thankyou soo much mam🥰🥰
I'm confused why you say remove water droplets 🤔 as long as your skin tolerates it whats the issue? It can help absorb moisturiser and serums
I am really not sure what to say anymore...
hii! can i use the ordinary glycolic acid toner with niacinamide and hyaluronic at night?
Yes :)
Hey, if I have the caffeine solution do I use it like this: cleansing, glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide then the caffeine solution under my eyes and then moisturiser? Also can I use all the products under my eyes and also can does moisturising after move all the products around? Thanku :)
Technically I would be like this:
Cleanse face
apply Glycolic Acid
apply Caffeine Solution
apply Hyaluronic acid
apply Niacinamide
apply Moisturizer
But since they are all water-based, you can change the order of the serums as you like.
If you use the right amount of each serum, it should not move around. But you may not even need the moisturizer; the serums often contain everything you need. Especially if you have normal to oily skin.

melissa, 1) i got a glycolic acid toner and it stings my skin is that normal?
2) instead of glycolic acid based toner can i switch it out for a hyaluronic acid moisturiser (it's not toner tho) which i have? edit : i have dry skin

Hey I have paula choice 2% bha and ordinary glycolic acid and glow recipe retinol, also vit c cream
Please advise how and when to use all these products
My skin is acni prone and also acni spots
When I was in Australia, we had a Spanish guy who always complained about the English "language" that was wrong in every way, which I agree with. Acni is how they pronounce it, and they write it differently. I really think that we can write and speak it just as we like since it does not make any sense and nobody will ever change it since it is highly influenced by money.
Anyway, you have ingredients that do not work well together. So, therefore, my advice is to alternate days.
But before I can help you better, I have to know the % of retinol you are using and what Vitamin C cream do you use? The Ordinary...?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thanks dear for your reply, it was a typo mistake 😀 I was typing really fast so acne prone skin was my word. Anyhow, I am not Australian an Asian women just started skin care routine.
Vit C from inkey list
Glycolic acid ordinary
Paula choice 2% salicylic acid
Retinol from avocado melt eye retinol sleep mask
Cleanser and moisturiser both from cetaphil
Either use Glycolic Acid or Salicylic Acid, but not both. Since you have acne, I recommend switching to Paula's Choice BHA.

If you have The Inkey List 30 Vitamin C Serum/Cream, do not use it in the same routine when using Paula's Choice BHA. So, either use both in the evening and alternate between them or use the BHA in the AM and Vitamin C in the PM.

Hey Melissa can I use peeling solution with lactic acid plz tell me I want to get rid of my dull and uneven skin tone
One more can u recommend which ordinary product is best for dull , uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation my face is darker than my body idk why
@@hadiakhan4293 For that, you need to protect it as long as possible from UV rays.

Would gylcolic acid go before or after niacinamide?
Glycolic: inkey list
Naicinamide: the ordinary
Inkey lists is watery, but so is the ordinarys. I think glycolic acid is more watery
Yes, so it comes down to what the products do to the skin. Generally, exfoliating acids are used before these serums/treatments. (you can check out the video I linked in the other reply.)
Like the hair wish If I could cut it like you
🥰
So the take away is, you don't necessarily have to apply hyaluronic acid on damp skin.
Yes, it doesn't matter since it has already absorbed the water within the formulation. So it cannot absorb more water from the skin or environment.
