    The glycolic acid toner is probably the only product I still use regularly from the ordinary...still very strong...I only use it twice a week...love it!!! The next day my skin grows BUT it remains to strong... the PHA solution from the inkey list is my way to go if I feel I " must " have an exfoliant🤣🤣🤣... ...never mis any of your videos Melissa...even if I don't comment!!!. ❤❤❤

      Haha, 🤣 what about the Facetheory low pH cleansers? Have you tried them? When using the cleansers, it works better, and it doesn't feel as strong, and the skin is much smoother after that! ;)
      But apart from that, since you do not struggle with any skin concerns, it may be best to stick to a PHA ;) since that one is more gentle to the skin and provides a gentler exfoliation.
      And thank you 😀

      Here:
      ''It's best to avoid using them together, as it may increase the risk of irritation over time.

Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us :) I have been using Pixi Glow Tonic for years at least 1 time a day, I just purchased the Ordinary Glycolic Acid to increase the strength by just a little bit. • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 года назад

      Well, since you have already used the Glycolic Acid for such a long time, it's unlikely to become an issue since your skin is well adjusted to it. Still, you are new to retinol, and it's always advised to start slowly and build up a tolerance. So my recommendation would be to use it 2-3 times a week and do that for a few weeks and after that increase, it if needed and tolerated 😀 Ultimately, you need to experiment a bit to see what works best for you.

    Great vid! While doing research i read from many sources that i shouldnt use niacinamide with glycolic acid unless they were 30 minutes apart, is that not true?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 года назад +1

      No, it's not true unless you have pure Niacinamide Powder and mix it with Glycolic Acid in the palm of your hand. But that does not count for any serum. Formulations are stable, and therefore they cannot interact when applied to the skin. So you can use them right after another. You may experience issues because you exfoliated the skin, but it can happen with any other serum you use after Glycolic Acid; it simply means that the active ingredient is too high for the skin to handle. If you do not use Glycolic Acid before, the dead skin cells protect it so that it absorbs slower.

    So extremely curious. With Hyaluronic acid serum it is recommended to use it on damp face for pure effectiveness . Whereas with glycolic acid it’s best used on dry face to avoid irritation. So how can I make use of both methods of application and receive the best results?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 года назад

      No, it does not matter if you use Hyaluronic acid on dry or on damp skin; it will have the same efficacy. Still, when you use products on "damp" skin, they tend to penetrate better into the skin.
      Damp skin refers to when your skin has absorbed some water but has been dried off on the surface. It doesn't look much different on the surface alone than dry skin. And after washing your face, your skin remains damp for about 30 minutes.
      So if you have a Glycolic Acid or generally an exfoliating acid, you want to avoid this since it has small molecules that may irritate the skin more when it is damp. Now, practically, it is only a concern for some people with sensitive skin or if your skin barrier is already damaged.
      Cleanse face
      Take a towel and remove the water drops from the skin surface
      Apply Hyaluronic Acid or Glycolic Acid
      If you use both, use Glycolic Acid first and layer Hyaluronic Acid on top.

      The routine/order is correct, but for what are you using those products?
      Regarding sunscreen, it really depends on what you want to achieve. I know that it isn't widespread here in Europe to wear it; however, I highly recommend using it when battling dark spots or other pigmentation issues. It also can help to prevent it. But SPF 15+ may be enough when not being outside for several hours. 😉

      If you are using them together and you are new to all of these products, then this could certainly happen. Therefore, it is generally suggested to start slowly with these products.
      So, you could use niacinamide and hyaluronic acid in your AM routine and glycolic acid and moisturizer in your evening routine.
      But also, it is important to adjust the frequency of your glycolic acid. Start by using it every other day and then gradually increase the frequency if tolerated and needed.

    Hey Melissa! I've always put on the hyaluronic acid before the glycolic bc I would apply it to damp skin after cleansing. Is my method incorrect?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 года назад

      No, it's not incorrect. But in this case, it does not make much sense since you are using the exfoliant. The AHA (Glycolic Acid) can loosen the dead skin cells as well as helps it to increase the Hyaluronic Acid. So when using it before, the Hyaluronic Acid (Sodium Hyaluronate) product that you use afterwards can absorb even better into the skin. Hyaluronic Acid also has this ability, but it can not exfoliate the skin; therefore, you will use it the other way around.
      However, with those leave on exfoliants, it is very tricky, and I am constantly questioning it since I do not know how long it needs to do this, and there is not really a reliable source online. I assume that you will get the best results when using a cleanser with Glycolic Acid with a low pH; leave that one for a couple of minutes and rinse it off and layer your hyaluronic acid product on top so that it can already remove the dead skin cells. In any case, it is best to use it before since it removes the build-up of the dead skin cells.

      "Generally, we recommend applying water-based solutions first, followed by oil formulations, and finally cream/suspension formulas. If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first)."
      From my experience and from what I have read in my books, Hyaluronic Acid can help to increase the absorption of the products that follow; therefore, I think it's best to use it before. But generally, there isn't any research about it, so there isn't any right or wrong.

      Hello,
      Exfoliating acids are generally used before Hyaluronic Acid (serum).But if you only use it on your nose it may not matter that much.
      Also, some toners contain Hyaluronic Acid, but they are generally used before since they usually have a smaller molecular size of Hyaluronic Acid or Sodium Hyaluronate to penetrate the skin. They do not tend to sit on top of the skin surface as most Hyaluronic Acid serums do.
      And not sure if you need to use the moisturizer in the morning if you have an excellent hydrating sunscreen or moisturizer with SPF.
      A great affordable sunscreen would be COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream.
      And do not overuse Glycolic Acid; not sure if you need it at all. Maybe once or twice a week is enough for your age. You do not have that much build-up of dead skin cells, and you can easily over exfoliate your skin. So be careful.

      Do not use a foaming cleanser instead use a gel cleanser. Foaming cleanser is actually very harsh to our face.

    There is Glycolic acid and Hyaluronic acide serum together.
    Can we use it everyday?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Год назад +1

      Yes, that's fine. Hyaluronic Acid can be used daily however when using Glycolic Acid, it mainly depends on your skin tolerance and needs.

    I have started using it for like 10days on my body. Firs of all i have like alot of hyperpigmentation & dead skin cells which made my skin look so dull. Lemme tell u my skintone is quite white but my face & body doesn't match shade. As i have started using it im seeing somewhere a lilllll bit clearing up not totally but i can see it. Maybe ill see my new skin after sm month if i keep continue using it. Ugh i really wish to have same shade like my face. People think i use makeup on my face as my face skin shade doesnt match wid my entire body. Do u think there any other lotion which will help me clear up my hyperpigmentation on body n deadskin cells ?

      Hey :)
      You may want to combine it with a brightening or Retinol/Vitamin C body lotion.
      I haven't looked into brightening body lotions myself since I am already soo pale; I would love to have a bit more of a sun-kissed tan, tough, haha😂
