She always gives the best explanation as she want people really to understand. One of youtuber that i really recommand to the new people who just visited this channel
I started using the Ordinary 7% glycolic acid toner over a week ago. In just this short time I have noticed a nice change in my overall skin. I leave the product on then follow with a retinol moisturizer. Once a week I use an exfoliating scrub then tone with the glycolic toner but on a wet cotton round.
Are you using a wet cotton round with the toner? This can dilute the glycolic toner and raise the pH, making it less effective (or even ineffective since glycolic acid needs a specific pH range to work effectively). Can you tell me why you're doing that?
Your videos are simply the best!! I recommend anyone new to using the ordinary or layering serums to watch your videos. This has helped educate me a great deal as I’ve had disasters in the past when I didn’t know what I was doing lol your videos are straightforward and give clear helpful explanations 😊❤️
I appreciate your video, I can tell you really care about your viewers given how informative your video is. I also like how little this video is edited. Thank you!
Such a helpful video! Funny, because I just purchased both TO Glycolic Acid 7% and the Paulas Choice 2% BHA and was on the fence as to what to do with them! I also was not aware I shouldn’t mix exfoliating cleansers with them. Thanks so much!
I've watched many videos trying to figure out the right combination for these products and not until watching this vedio did I understand. Thank you for breaking this down for a visual learner 👍🏽💛
This by far is the best demonstration regarding the use of different acids. I recently started using the Ordinary Glycolic 7% acid at night only.. and I've also purchased the Ordinary Buffet. You made a video about not applying the acids with Peptides, Vitamin C etc. Last night.. was my first time with the Glycolic 7% waited about ten minutes, which I think was a waste of Inkey Hyaluronic acid since it works better on damp skin.. I guess I did it as a protectant, then I applied the Buffet.. Skin felt soft, added some Okay regenerist and I was fine.. Can I use my acid wait 20 minutes, mist my face with water, apply my Hyaluronic acid and then apply my Buffet? I use my Buffet in the morning and would like to use it at night, without interfering with my acid.. My reason for the 20, is to allow the Glycolic acid to fully penetrate. The water mist is for the Hyaluronic acid to help the Buffet penetrate as well. HELP! My Cleaners are: CeraVe Hydrating facial Cleanser CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser I have dull, a bit uneven, a bit of sagging, marionette lines. I was using Dr. Brenner Vitamin C E Ferulic, Adapalene for almost 2 years. My skin is better, but I wanted to step it up with the Glycolic acid and Buffet. My skin isn't oily nor sensitive, its normal. Any Suggestions Melissa Van Dijk would be appreciated, thank you.
Hello Elizabeth, It will not make a difference, Hyaluronic Acid is stabilised, and therefore it cannot draw the water from the skin or environment. So you will not have any benefits for the skin while doing this, it only feels different, but the efficacy stays the same. The formulations are all water-based, and the serums have what they need for optimal skin penetration ;). Technically, the skin needs much longer to get back to its normal pH (I think 30 minutes to 1 hour), so you theoretically need to wait that long in between. Or you just can rebalance it with a toner or the hyaluronic acid, which you use right after the Glycolic Acid and add Buffet after that. So maybe just give it a minute or so, but that should already be enough. Also, Glycolic Acid can be very harsh on the skin. Whenever I use it too often, it makes my skin worse (I also use Adapalene and other retinoids and retinol because I test so many products to show applications/demonstrations). So that may also be the issue. Still, I recommend not to overdo it. Or if it is too harsh on your skin, and if it does not get any better, use a PHA toner or Mandelic Acid Toner or serum. That works best for me. I hope that this helps ;)
Thank you so much! I'm about to start a skin care routine with the ordinary and it's a bit overwhelming for me to find out the most useful products and how to set up a correct routine. Your videos helped me a lot and I feel much more confident right now ❤

Thank you very much for this video. I recently bought both products (TO and PC) and i am currently waiting for them to be delivered, this has helped me. thank you. thank you
I like to use this product on days when i want to keep it simple. 1. Cleanse with Neutrogena hydro boost cleanser 2. Dickinsons witch hazel toner with hyaluronic acid and rosewater (its alcohol free) 3. T.O. glycolic solution 4. T.O. rosehip oil.
Melissa, thank you so much! i just bought glycolic acid toner, salicylic acid masque and lactic acid and was unsure af what to do exactly; now i get it - i will lay off lactic for a while, go with toner once or twice a week and go with the masque once a week, yay 😍
Hej melissa! ❤️ Im currently using lactic acid 10 percent in my evening routine. My fine lines diminished when i started using lactic acid and you can see the glow in my face. My pores were minimized too. But i read some of the bloggs that glycolic acid has smaller molecules that can go deeper into your skin. In your experience, what do you prefer? Lactic or glycolic? Thank you! ❤️
Hello again :) Yes, Glycolic Acid has the smallest molecules, and therefore it often leads to stinging or burning on the skin. But it also depends on the formulation; if it is very watery, it tends to be much stronger. I prefer Lactic Acid. And when I use Glycolic Acid, I often use Paula's Choice 8% AHA since that one has a sticky texture, and I tolerate it better. I do not often use the Glycolic Acid from The Ordinary anymore. Generally, you need to test it and see what you like most :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet okay! Noted. As i also read, lactic acid is more beneficial than glycolic. Its just, it has bigger molecules that it doesnt go deeper into the skin thats why it takes time to see the effect.. just in case i switch into glycolic acid, will it be the same routine as i do with lactic? Cleanser, glycolic, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and moisturizing cream? Thanks
Hi Melissa! This video was very helpful and super informative. I was wondering if this is a good routine for my skincare: 1. Aveeno 60 second shower facial cleanser (3 times a week) 2. The ordinary Lactic acid 10% + HA (2 times a week) 3. Aveeno moisturizing lotion (On the days I don’t use the in shower cleanser I use the lactic acid) A.M 1. The ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA Hyperpigmentation Serum 2. Aveeno moisturizing lotion 3. Sunscreen Also I wanted to start using the glycolic acid but not on my face because my cleanser and lotion both have glycolic acid. I want to start using it on my armpits and knees. What do you recommend? Are there any changes I should make to my skincare routine? Thank you!!!

Hi, Melissa... I want to know something... Will the orrdinary glycolic acid toner be better than ordinary alpha arbutin to fade acne scars?? Coz I have super oily skin with whiteheads (though I use peeling solutions once a week and I'll start niacinamide next week) can it be better for my skin to fade acne scars than alpha arbutin? And can this acid be harmful for long terms like 6-7 months? One last question... Can I use aloe gel after ordinary glycolic acid toner as a moisturizer?? It would be be very helpful if you reply me like always.... Lots of love...❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hello. I think Retinol would be the better option for you since you have very oily skin. But yes, you can use Glycolic Acid. Generally, Alpha Arbutin can be used for several months, but I constantly question it since it is a derivative of hydroquinone. That may lead to several issues when used for a more extended period (according to studies). Therefore, I recommend using Retinol, it can help regulate the sebum, and it works well in combination with Niacinamide. And you cannot use Aloe Vera as a traditional moisturizer; it is more like Hyaluronic Acid. But since you have oily skin, it may work very well!! :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank you so much Melissa for replying... And I wanted to say if I use ordinary glycolic acid toner for long terms like 11-12 months(3 times week) , can there be any problem of over exfoliating with acid? And I can use Aloe gel after glycolic acid toner or lactic acid??
Well, I am not aware of any long term effects; for this, you need to ask a professional. But I haven't come across any research that claims this. But most studies only used the products for several months. So not 100% sure about this. Regarding the frequency, you have to find the right balance for your needs, meaning if you do feel that it is too much. There isn't much that can happen except for a bit of burning and stinging. If that's the case, also use it less often or give it a break. Yes, you can use Aloe gel after Glycolic Acid or lactic acid. Regarding the retinol, if you do it cautiously, there won't be any issues. Just start with the lowest strength. 0,2 or 0,3%.
Love love love this! It’s so informative for a skincare newbie like me. Would it be okay for me to use this immediately after a gentle cleanser, then use niancinamide? I haven’t found a toner that works well on my skin....
thats what i do too, but i only use glycolic acid toner once a week . And i use another hydrating toner on other days on my face except my forehead cuz my cheeks are normal to dry skin.
Hello. This video was very helpful. I have been using a few of The Ordinary's products for a while, but I still haven't gotten the hang of it. I did some research and bought the Glycolic acid toning solution this morning. I never had acne before but I am now suffering from "maskne", dullness, a lot of hyperpigmentation and acne scars. I use Azelaic acid and Niacinamide and SPF in the morning. I do the peeling solution on Sundays. I would like to incorporate a retinoid, glycolic acid and mandelic acid at nights. I know that I cannot use all three of these products together. Can you please suggest how I may go about doing this? Can I use one on night 1, one on night 2, one on night 3 and repeat? Or should I perhaps remove the mandelic acid altogether and judy alternate betweenthe other two? Or can I alternate the acids by the month? I don't want to use too many products on my face as I am not used to that, and would love to keep my regimen as simple as possible. Also, is it okay to use Panoxyl benzoyl peroxide face wash at nights before those acids I mentioned above? Or is it safe to use benzoyl peroxide spot treatment on a breakout before these acids? I apologise for this long message. Looking forward to your help. I love your videos. 😊
Hey! :) Have you already bought a Granactive Retinoid/Retinol, Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid and a Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser? If not, I recommend just adding a 4%-5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser (CeraVe, Differin or Panoxyl). I use Benzoyl Peroxide products myself and they seemed to work best for me! As for your acne scars/marks, you are already using Niacinamide and Azelaic Acid. I wouldn't add anything else, unless something isn't working while using a Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser. Have a look at my recent video, the application won't change for a lower % of BP cleanser. In your case, I recommend using a 4%-5%, that's enough. Here: How to use PanOxyl 10% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Foaming Wash: ruclips.net/video/hZgzeDH2u8k/видео.html
Hi Melissa! hope all is well. Step 4: Serums, what serums can we use? Niacinamide? Retinol? Also, can i use Paulas Choice 2% BHA in the morning and then the Glycolic 7% in the evening?
Yeah, retinol is controversial, and it isn't recommended since it may lead to irritation, especially when using 0,5% or 1%. So I wouldn't do that; better to stick to alternate evenings. So using the exfoliating acids 2-3 times a week and the rest of the week the retinol. But you can use Niacinamide there is no issue. It really depends on your skin with exfoliating acids, but generally, 2-3 times a week is recommended. I have this video: How Many Times A Week Should You Exfoliate: ruclips.net/video/aTTM9xPwCjk/видео.html
Hi Melissa! What are you opinions on skincare fridges? I have the TO Ascorbic Acid 8% and Alpha Arbutin 2%, but I don't use a fridge for it. I'm too scared to open my Granactive Retinoid Emulsion Bottle though, because it expire in 3 months upon opening. I can't use it often enough to finish in that time and I'm nervous it will degrade quickly as well. Is it worth it to buy a mini fridge for one retinoid bottle?
The Ordinary products do not need to be stored in the fridge....only the Ordinary Retinols/Retinoids products. I just keep it in my normal fridge, I don't use a "beauty-fridge".
Hi Melissa 👋 Can I use glycolic acid toner on my legs and arm after using salicylic acid body wash? I have KP and ingrown hair in my thigh. Also, after using glycolic acid toner can we use cerave SA cream?
It sounds like a lot, and the SA alone should ideally do the job. However, if you choose to use both, I would suggest alternating them and observing the results. Be mindful of the frequency, as using them too often might quickly become too much for the skin, potentially leading to breakouts or sensitivities.
Hi.. here is my order for skincare routine 1. Cerave Foaming Cleanser 2. The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 3. The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 4. The Ordinary Niacinamide 5. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 6. The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 7. Cerave Moisturizer AM/PM Is this right? Please help me.. 🙏 Thank you
It may be best to use the caffeine solution after the Glycolic Acid. But I think that you are using too many products in one routine. It may be best to create an Am and a Pm routine with the products you have, or use them at alternate times 🙂 And as I said in the video you need to adjust it based on the changing needs of your skin.
hi melissa 💕 thank u so much for the tips and informations you give to me on every video, how do you know all of this about skin care?? i'm curious to know 🥰
Hello Salv, Thank you for the comment. Well, I do have most of it from books and articles that I like to read online. But some I figured out while using those products daily for years now... Also, I had had skincare when I was doing my professional makeup artist degree, and a little when I was doing my caretaker degree. And now I am trying to make sense of all of this and put it into practice. But I have learned a lot from the books, especially the following once: Cosmeceuticals and Cosmetic Ingredients The Skin Type Solution. And to be honest, The Ordinary has helped me go much deeper into it, and Paula's Choice. The articles and expert advice is fantastic, you should check it out. It always includes references: www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice
I just recently purchased the following: 1. The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 2. Some by Mi AHA, BHA 30 days Miracle Serum 3. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 4. The Ordinary Niacinamide Now after watching this, I’m confused on how I will use them all. :) can you help me please? I also use a Cetaphil cleansing bar for my cleanser.
I recommend not using The Ordinary Glycolic Acid with the AHA + BHA serum since Glycolic Acid = AHA. So you should avoid using them in the same routine. If you want to use both, it's best to alternate daily or weekly, depending on your preference. You can use Glycolic Acid or AHA + BHA Serum first and layer Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide on top. And you have to find the right frequency for you. The products can be used daily. If you want to learn more about The Ordinary, I recommend watching my newest video: The Ordinary Explained: ruclips.net/video/jYyU9i12NlQ/видео.html
Thank you so much. Really appreciate it. I will not use the AHA + BHA serum. I’ll stick with The Ordinary products = Glycolic acid + Hyaluronic + Niacinamide.

CeraVe moisturizing cream (P.S. I use the ordinary red peeling solution also once a week but I don’t use the ordinary glycolic acid with it.)
Hi Melissa, hope you're doing good. I had a little query here. Let's say I've included Hyaluronic Acid in my routine. Which sunscreen should I use? Should I use a sunscreen which has Ceramide & Vitamin C or Hyaluronic Acid? I am referring to 1. Dr. Sheth's Ceramide & Vitamin C Sunscreen 2. Dr. Sheth's Haldi & Hyaluronic Acid [both has SPF 50+] or if you can suggest one as per the availability in India. Thank you!
Some people use Glycolic Acid for their underarms, but I am concerned about the long-term effects because these areas are very sensitive. Maybe if you only use it a few times a week and do not overdo it. For the neck, there shouldn't be an issue.
When I use glycolic acid my pimples flatten out for a day or 2 and then come back. Ive tried niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, lactic acid, retinol but nothing works! Can u please help me!
This is because those products do not help with acne or pimples. As I said in the video, you need Salicylic Acid (at least). But better to combine it with a light Benzoyl Peroxide treatment that you can only use on your pimples. This works great for me. Lactic acid or glycolic acid? And for my skincare routine am i doing the right way? Really looking forward for your reply 🙏🏻🥺
Hey! :) What's your skin type? What kind of hyperpigmentation do you have and do you have sensitive skin? Usually, it is recommended to go with an AHA (Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid or Mandelic Acid). However, if you have sensitive skin, Glycolic and Lactic Acid can sting on the skin. In that case, you want to look into Mandelic Acid or PHA :) Yes, the order of application looks good! :)
@@noradilarozali3619 If you have oily skin, you probably do not need a moisturiser. Only use a moisturiser if you experience dryness. If you can I recommend getting Geek&Gorgeous PHA + BHA, or The Inkey List PHA.
Hi Ms. Melissa. Been mia for past month, this video is very informative! I have been thinking of changing my toner, and I love that you point out that glycolic acid is a leave on exfoliator not a toner! hi! can you check if my routine is good for my sensitive dry skin? morning: cerave moisturizing cleanser -> hyaluronic acid (the ordinary) -> niacinamide (the ordinary) -> Moisturizing lotion (the ordinary) -> sunscreen night: Cerave Moisturizing Cleanser -> glycolic acid -> hyaluronic acid -> niacinamide -> moisturizing lotion some nights I will switch it up so i replace glycolic acid with my paula’s choice salicylic acid 2% if i end up being too sensitive with glycolic acid then what other product do you recommend? i love ur videos btw! my skin is getting so much better (:
For sensitive skin, daily exfoliation may be a bit too much, and I am not sure if it is really needed, but it depends on many factors such as age, skin type, etc. So you need to adjust it accordingly to your skin's response. You can replace Glycolic Acid with Lactic Acid or Mandelic Acid. Mandelic Acid is the gentlest since it has the largest molecules.
Hi there, my sister has the Peeling solution, I have used it twice now, the first time I used it I followed your advice on applying only one or two drops on each skin part for about 10 minutes max. What happened was I experienced a slight tingle and small irritation but my skin is supposedly able to tolerate some irritation (my skin is combination to oily, acne-prone skin). Then, my skin started to show more red bumps after using the Peeling solution. I initially thought that the culprit was the Peeling solution, but it could be because of other products at that time, my moisturizer was not the right type for my skin type. I tried it again a few months later, this time using a latex glove, and a slightly thicker application for only 5 minutes this time. There was more intense pain, but it went away for some time (it burned at the areas that I picked on oops my fault), and I straight away used a moisturizer to reduce dryness. My question is, is it possible to have more acne after using Peeling solution, even though my skin is supposedly able to withstand harsh acids? (emphasis on supposedly) I have used acids before in cleansers, and in serums but at lower concentrations and have other buffering ingredients in the formulation (assuming that it would be gentler on the skin) and it helps my acne a bit. Sorry for making it very long. ;) Thank uuu
Hey! If you have acne prone skin, I recommend looking for an acne treatment such as a Benzoyl Peroxide cream/gel or something with Retinol like the Differin gel. The Ordinary does not have any acne treatments. Using the peeling solution and getting more bumps can mean two things...either you've irritated your skin or because it is an exfoliating mask and you have acne prone skin - acne will show up quicker than usual because it removes the dead skin cells on your skin surface :) What else are you currently using? And have you seen improvements?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet a salicylic acid cleanser, gentle exfoliating toner, rice water hydrating essence, snail mucin essence, The Ordinary Niacinamide powder (mixed with the hydrating essence), an acne serum for AM (mostly centella and oils), a Galactomyces serum for PM, end with centella based moisturizer (will be replaced by a vitamin c moisturiser, im running out of it), random leave on masks (rice extract based, cica based, some sheet masks etc) So far an improvement in acne was after i changed my whole perception of skincare. Before this i used a face scrub as daily cleanser for twice a day, an alcohol based toner, and Neutrogena Combination skin moisturizer. I also love to pick my face (oops) and as a result PIH AND acne scars develop. I truly regret everything that i did, and slowly try to understand skin care. Now, as i have changed my bad habits the acne flare ups is still there but at a lower amount (only two or 3 acnes per week or so), my cystic acne reduced a TON although it took some pain, and mostly because of COSRX ingredients. The first good cleanser that i used contains just a gentle willowbark extract and mostly calming and non irritating ingredients. It was the best, then my PIH are not disappearing. My favourite product is the iUnik Rose Galactomyces Synergy Serum and it really helped my dark spots. For acne though, im still fighting for it, i wanted to focus on using exfoliators more such as introducing the aha or bha serums from other brands or even the toning solution from the ordinary, but since youve said that benzoyl peroxide works better then i should splurge more on topical acne medication, right? I want to use retinol, but im just too scared to use im afraid that maybe it could affect my hormones, or my growth, or maybe not even layerable with other products. But yeah im working on finding a gentler cleanser (The Inkey List is too pricey for me here where i live and neutrogena oil free acne cleanser is too harsh).

Yes, I also did not know it initially, and it caused significant irritation 😉 It's very confusing if you do not understand what Glycolic Acid means. Is there a toner which conforms? The ordinary has no toners according to me… And CeraVe has only micellair water? I love your video’s because I don’t know by my self a way in the ordinary products. Thank you very much and wish you a nice day!
Hey! :) Yeah, I know, my family name is Dutch (my dad is Dutch), but I can't speak Dutch🙈 However, I can understand it😄 The Ordinary has only an exfoliating acid toner (Glycolic Acid Toner), not a hydrating/soothing toner. So, Paula's Choice has excellent hydrating toners, which I can recommend (like their Enriched Calming or Earth Sourced Toner), but I wouldn't use CeraVe's Micellar Water as a toner. I primarily use that one to remove makeup from the skin. Thank you, for you too! :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thanks for your quick response! I have a combination skin, so this toners are not right for me. Is it really necessary to use a toner after the CeraVe foaming cleanser? I don’t like many brands in my routine. I think products of the same line in brand, complement each order 🤔
My husband (oily skin) and I (combo skin) have tested quite a few of Paula's Choice Toners. Both of us like the toners I've mentioned above. That's why I recommend them. No, you do not need to use a toner if you do not feel the need :)
Hi Melissa .. thank you for your sharing 🙏.. I’m blemish and pimple Skin aka Oily 😅 .. as you mention the Glycolic Acid 7% for dry skin - does it mean that I’m not suitable to use Glycolic ? Thanks 😊
Well, Glycolic Acid can also work on oily skin, but it also depends on what else you are using in your routine. It may make your skin oilier. BHA(Salicylic Acid) may be best for your oily-blemish prone skin. Also, as a general note, exfoliating acids can work great on the skin, however, they may also trigger more acne, if that should be the case and go on for over a month, stop using it. Also, have a look at this video: How Many Times A Week Should You Exfoliate: ruclips.net/video/aTTM9xPwCjk/видео.html
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank you again Melissa for your kind reply and attention .. will Definitely try your suggestion .. Perhaps I was using it everyday and it cause purging on my skin overall .. I thought it was only the initial stage where it shed skin faster and making the Lower Dermis skin impurities to be shed 🤭🤭
If you experience weird red looking pimples, I recommend stop using it and give your skin some time to recover! The Ordinary Glycolic Acid toner is pretty strong, I can't use it very often myself, I prefer The Ordinary Mandelic Acid as it is gentler or Paula's Choice Daily Pore-Refining Treatment With 2% BHA or The Inkey List Beta Hydroxy Acid, those are gentle as well. Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant (Black Bottle) is in my opinion pretty strong as well.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I can’t thank you for enough Melissa 💕💕🥰🥰You really do share and explain it really Clear and easy for me to understand .. yes I stop the Glycolic Acid The Ordinary .. now trying the Beta hydroxy Acid From The Inkey list .. Condition are Not So purging d .. Thanks Melissa
Hello. Great video! I just wanted to ask sis, I use the la Roche posay effaclar cleanser, so can I use the glycolic acid after this cleanser once my face dries and then use the caffeine solution under my eyes, finishing it with moisturiser? Thankyou x
Hmm, that's not wrong to do, but I am concerned about dryness. If you have oily skin, this may work; otherwise, I recommend using a gentle cleanser before using the glycolic acid.

Hello I just received a bottle from my sister. In my routine I use raw African black soap along with whipped Shea butter. Is it okay to use all together? These products I use are handmade as well. Thank you so much for your time. 💜💜
I've never tried such a routine...so you have to try it :) You may want to start slowly and use it 2-3 times for a while and see how your skin reacts before using it more frequently :)
This may be a bit off topic but because you mentioned that glycolic acid exfoliates. Can you use it on your armpits or bikini area if you suffer from ingrown hair bumps, to speed up the process of freeing the hair and reducing the hair bump. Also thank you the video was very informative.
Hey .. thank u for the helpful informations❤️ I just want to ask u what cream i have to add it to the glycolic acid I have skin pigmentation around the lips and my skin is combination
Hey! :) Well, you do not necessarily need to use a moisturiser if you don't want to. However, you can look for a lightweight moisturiser like Cerave's PM Moisturizing Lotion or La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Fluid. You could even add a few drops of Glycolic Acid to your moisturiser and then apply it! :)
Hi! thx for this info, I got intrested listening to it, but then you never mention what serums good to combine with glycolic acid?. Im now in my late 40's, I dont have any skin problems but starting having melasma on my face. Im thinking if I can use the 7% glycolic acid toner + retinol serum + azelaic cream at night? Hope you will notice my message. Thanks & Godbless
Hey! :) You may have success with topical over-the-counter products like the ones you've mentioned. However, Hydroquinone is often prescribed for hyperpigmentation concerns like melasma. Over time, I've learned that, similar to acne, diet can play a significant role-such as consuming too much added sugar, processed food, fast food, or any food intolerances-which can influence hormones and lead to 'wrong' responses in the body. Glycolic Acid (you can use any serums, except for the ones that conflict): ruclips.net/video/NE3j3LPcaGE/видео.htmlfeature=shared Azelaic Acid: ruclips.net/video/oRYp_RzqOXk/видео.htmlfeature=shared Glycolic Acid and Retinol: ruclips.net/video/pGb_ZtCAk_s/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Hi Melissa, I started using glycolic toner and the skin care routines as you explained.. my skin started flaking. Could you please tell me how to take care of flaky skin!? Do I need to moisturize every time!?(morning, evening and night)? And can I apply on alternative days again with flaky skin on face the glycolic toner, ninacinamide and retinol!?
Hello :) For how long have you been using it? Since this can last for a while. It is going to loosen the dead skin cells, and therefore you will experience flaking= excess skin cells. So that does not mean that your skin is dry, but it can be, of course. It can take a while until this gets better; it needs time to adjust to it. But if you feel that it is dry, you can add the moisturizer during the day.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you so much for replying...I just started it’s been 6 days with this skin routine. So when I have flaky skin can I still use glycolic toner, ninacinamide and retinol and do the same normal skin care routine!? (And reapplying moisturizer and sunscreen again)

Hi Mellisa, thank God i found your videos. God bless you. Please assist here. 1. Can i use Ordinary Glycolic exfoliator and loreal Glycolic serum 1% at the same time? 2. Can i use salicylic acid toner and the Glycolic acid exfoliator at the same time. Thank you
Hello! There isn't much point in using both the glycolic acid toner with 7% and the glycolic acid serum with 1%. I suggest sticking to the one that works best for you. As for the SA toner and the glycolic acid toner, I recommend using them on alternate days. Using them together could lead to over-exfoliation, which might cause irritation over time.

Hi Melissa! I have acne-prone skin and I think glycolic acid is not good for me ( I tried like 2 weeks but my acnes getting more) first of all i want to get rid of my acne. Should I use benzoyl peroxid gel and what percentage would you recommend to start with this acne gel %5 or %10?
Hey! :) Glycolic Acid isn't really helping acne-prone skin. It may be great for dark spots but not for active acne. Go either with a 4% BP Cleanser or Cream/Gel or a 2% Salicylic Acid Cleanser, Solution or Gel. Have a look at the video below: How to use Panoxyl Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser and Differin Gel for Acne-Prone Skin: ruclips.net/video/nu1Wo9O_6e0/видео.html or this: The Ordinary Skincare Routine for Oily Acne Prone Skin: ruclips.net/video/BoLMjpkcDSw/видео.html You also need to figure out what's causing your acne...like diet (sugar and milk, etc), stress, and hormones...because the above-mentioned products are only treatments.

Hi I'm back here again. I'm concerned about continuing this product because I'm using this for three weeks now and I use it 3-4 times a week. But I don't know it's just that whiteheads are just everywhere on my skin. Is this normal when you use this Miss Melissa? And can I use a 2 percent salasylic acid once a day and glycolic acid every other night?.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I was using a kojic based acid soap with papaya extract as cleanser. I wash my face twice a day. And I use glycolic acid every other day or 3 times a week. And it's been actually three weeks now. But as I observed my face has gotten more whiteheads. I have no active pimple. My face is actually clear except for the fact that my face literally got whiteheads all over miss Melissa. But I don't use any moisturizer after using glycolic acid.
Hello Melissa! I am currently using Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner and planning to add Glycolic Acid to my routine. Can I use them together? Also, I am on my 1st month of Differin too. I researched that Retinol should not be used with other acids but how do I incorporate these two in my routine? I only apply Adapalene every other day, so can I use the Glycolic Acid on nights I don't apply Adapalene? Thanks so much!
Yes, you can use them together. Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner = Hydrating Toner Glycolic Acid Toner = Exfoliant More information here: docdro.id/YNtqWFJ If you only use Differin every other day, you can use the toners when not using it. However, do not overuse Glycolic Acid since it can quickly lead to stinging or burning. My best advice would be to use it not for the first 4-6 weeks when using Differin and after that, slowly incorporate it into your routine so that your skin has more time to adjust to the products.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thanks for responding Melissa! I would like to clarify the 4-6 weeks interval. This is my 5th week of Adapalene, so I can only start using Glycolic by next next week, right? I also read a comment from one of your videos saying she's only applying Glycolic once a week for exfoliation. But idk if this will work for someone like me with acne-prone, inflamed skin.
Correct. So, you can use it like this: PM 1: - Cleanser - Good Molecules Toner - Adapalene - (Optional) Moisturizer PM 2: - Cleanser - Glycolic Acid Toner - (Optional) Moisturizer Alternate between PM 1 and PM 2 throughout the week :) It's fine to just use Glycolic Acid once per week or more often depending on what your skin tolerates. Moisturiser and spf 30 sunscreen It’s ordinary product.. it is ok? For this product please let me know. I havw sensitive oily acne , scar skin. Thanks in advance.
It is not the best product for oily skin, and your cleanser has a higher pH. The best would be to use a Salicylic Acid cleanser with a lower pH and not use the AHA (Glycolic Acid) AHAs are generally used for dry sun-damaged skin, which is not sensitive. BHA (Salicylic Acid) is usually used for oily acne-prone skin that is sensitive. The best Salicylic Acid cleanser I have tried so far is The Inkey List Salicylic Acid cleanser (with 2% Salicylic Acid). And for BHA leave on exfoliants, there are several formulations; Paula's Choice has the most popular, their 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. So you could use one of them. (I prefer the cleanser) I suggest doing it like this: Morning: The Inkey List SA Cleanser SPF Evening: The Inkey List SA Cleanser (Hydrating Toner, Serum or Essence) Niacinamide The Ordinary Moisturizer
dear melissa thank you for the amazing and educiated video...is it ok to put before the Glycolic Acid hyaluronic acid? my basic routine after cleaning is hyaluronic acid then serum and the rest i thought to use it between is it ok? thank you
Yes, you can use Glycolic Acid and Hyaluronic Acid in the same routine. Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar and should not be confused with exfoliating acids such as Glycolic Acid :) - Cleanser - Glycolic Acid - Hyaluronic Acid - and the rest! :)
No, you don't. Keep in mind for stubborn Blackheads, and you need to see a dermatologist, to remove them mechanically. But apart from that, you can try BHA or a Retinol :) Using Retinol 2-3 times a week can really help you with your concerns. The best I have tried so far is the Clinical 0,3% Retinol + 2% Bakuchiol Treatment from Paula's Choice. You could use that one when not using the mandelic acid. Or alternate.
Your skin is getting more clear, seems like what you been doing is working for you :)
I am currently not applying any products 😆 , and I am documenting it daily, and I will publish a video soon, but it works great with just cleansing. 🤷🏼♀️

HELP!
My Cleaners are:
CeraVe Hydrating facial Cleanser
CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser
I have dull, a bit uneven, a bit of sagging, marionette lines.
Hello Elizabeth,
It will not make a difference, Hyaluronic Acid is stabilised, and therefore it cannot draw the water from the skin or environment.

Thank you! ❤️
Hello again :)
Yes, Glycolic Acid has the smallest molecules, and therefore it often leads to stinging or burning on the skin.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet And I'm kindly nervous to use retinol as it has to be used very cautiously and maybe retinol will work slowly....

I haven’t found a toner that works well on my skin....
yes, that's how you should do it 🙂 And thank you ❤️
thats what i do too, but i only use glycolic acid toner once a week .

Hey! :)
Have you already bought a Granactive Retinoid/Retinol, Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid and a Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser?
If not, I recommend just adding a 4%-5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser (CeraVe, Differin or Panoxyl). I use Benzoyl Peroxide products myself and they seemed to work best for me!
As for your acne scars/marks, you are already using Niacinamide and Azelaic Acid. I wouldn't add anything else, unless something isn't working while using a Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser.
Have a look at my recent video, the application won't change for a lower % of BP cleanser. In your case, I recommend using a 4%-5%, that's enough.

Hi Melissa! hope all is well.

Hi.. here is my order for skincare routine
1. Cerave Foaming Cleanser
2. The Ordinary Caffeine Solution
3. The Ordinary Glycolic Acid
4. The Ordinary Niacinamide
5. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid
6. The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin
7. Cerave Moisturizer AM/PM
Is this right? Please help me.. 🙏

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet hello, can i use niacinamid just after Glycolic acid ? Please thanks
hi melissa 💕 thank u so much for the tips and informations you give to me on every video, how do you know all of this about skin care?? i'm curious to know 🥰
Hello Salv,
Thank you for the comment.
But I have learned a lot from the books, especially the following once:
Cosmeceuticals and Cosmetic Ingredients
The Skin Type Solution.
And to be honest, The Ordinary has helped me go much deeper into it, and Paula's Choice. The articles and expert advice is fantastic, you should check it out. It always includes references:
www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice
Good information...you're the best❤
I just recently purchased the following:
1. The Ordinary Glycolic Acid
2. Some by Mi AHA, BHA 30 days Miracle Serum
3. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid
4. The Ordinary Niacinamide
Now after watching this, I’m confused on how I will use them all.
If you want to learn more about The Ordinary, I recommend watching my newest video:
The Ordinary Explained:
ruclips.net/video/jYyU9i12NlQ/видео.html
Thank you so much. Really appreciate it. I will not use the AHA + BHA serum. I’ll stick with The Ordinary products = Glycolic acid + Hyaluronic + Niacinamide.
Hey Melissa! I love your videos, could you check if this is an ok skincare routine?
1. Cleanser- CeraVe hydrating facial cleanser
2. The ordinary glycolic acid
3. The ordinary alpha arbutin serum
4. CeraVe moisturizing cream
(P.S. I use the ordinary red peeling solution also once a week but I don’t use the ordinary glycolic acid with it.)
Yes, it sounds like an excellent routine for normal to dry skin with pigmentation problems.
Hi Melissa, hope you're doing good.
I had a little query here.
Let's say I've included Hyaluronic Acid in my routine. Which sunscreen should I use?
Should I use a sunscreen which has Ceramide & Vitamin C or Hyaluronic Acid?
I am referring to
1. Dr. Sheth's Ceramide & Vitamin C Sunscreen
2. Dr. Sheth's Haldi & Hyaluronic Acid
[both has SPF 50+]
or if you can suggest one as per the availability in India.
Thank you!
It depends on your skin type and what feeling you like on the face, and ultimately you need to test them.
hey! can i use the glycolic acid toner with azelaic acid suspension? great video 💗

Hi Melissa. Big fan of your videos, really helpful. Any tips / routine for hyperpigmentation around neck & underarms ? Pls help me out.

Hey! :)
What's your skin type?
What kind of hyperpigmentation do you have and do you have sensitive skin?
Usually, it is recommended to go with an AHA (Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid or Mandelic Acid). However, if you have sensitive skin, Glycolic and Lactic Acid can sting on the skin. In that case, you want to look into Mandelic Acid or PHA :)

Hi Ms. Melissa. Been mia for past month, this video is very informative! I have been thinking of changing my toner, and I love that you point out that glycolic acid is a leave on exfoliator not a toner! Since the last video I asked about hyperpigmentation, I have been using the ascorbic acid with alpha arbutin and included it in am/pm routine, I am torn if I will use glycolic, lactic or mandelic acid 😔 I use cetaphil as cleanser, cereve as moisturizer and been using ordinarys Azelaic, niacinamide and hyaluronic. My toner is a Korean product SomebyMi AHA BHA PHA toner, but been thinking to change it. And using benzoyl peroxide for spot treatment. What are your recommendations but living in Asia and hoping for cheaper ones 😅 Btw sorry for long comment. Thank you so much! ❤️
Hmm...you may want to try out Lactic Acid 5% to see how your skin is going to responds to it! :)
So, what's your current AM and PM routine? :)
As for toners...I haven't tried that many...the one I love is from Paula's Choice called the Enriched Calming toner :)
am - cleanser, toner, niacinamide, ascorbic acid, moisturiser, sunscreen
pm - cleanser, toner, hyaluronic, ascorbic acid, moisturiser, azelaic, benzoyl peroxide

hi! can you check if my routine is good for my sensitive dry skin?

night: Cerave Moisturizing Cleanser -> glycolic acid -> hyaluronic acid -> niacinamide -> moisturizing lotion
some nights I will switch it up so i replace glycolic acid with my paula’s choice salicylic acid 2%
if i end up being too sensitive with glycolic acid then what other product do you recommend?
i love ur videos btw! my skin is getting so much better (:
Using the peeling solution and getting more bumps can mean two things...either you've irritated your skin or because it is an exfoliating mask and you have acne prone skin - acne will show up quicker than usual because it removes the dead skin cells on your skin surface :)
What else are you currently using? And have you seen improvements?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet a salicylic acid cleanser, gentle exfoliating toner, rice water hydrating essence, snail mucin essence, The Ordinary Niacinamide powder (mixed with the hydrating essence), an acne serum for AM (mostly centella and oils), a Galactomyces serum for PM, end with centella based moisturizer (will be replaced by a vitamin c moisturiser, im running out of it), random leave on masks (rice extract based, cica based, some sheet masks etc)
So far an improvement in acne was after i changed my whole perception of skincare.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet right now this is what im targeting. I want to reduce hyperpigmentations and acne. This is my skincare plan:
Cleanser and toner for targeting acne.
Other serums/essences and moisturisers for hyperpigmentation.
Cant forget sunscreen.

Yeah, I know, my family name is Dutch (my dad is Dutch), but I can't speak Dutch🙈 However, I can understand it😄
The Ordinary has only an exfoliating acid toner (Glycolic Acid Toner), not a hydrating/soothing toner. So, Paula's Choice has excellent hydrating toners, which I can recommend (like their Enriched Calming or Earth Sourced Toner), but I wouldn't use CeraVe's Micellar Water as a toner. Well, Glycolic Acid can also work on oily skin, but it also depends on what else you are using in your routine. It may make your skin oilier. BHA(Salicylic Acid) may be best for your oily-blemish prone skin. Well, you do not necessarily need to use a moisturiser if you don't want to. However, you can look for a lightweight moisturiser like Cerave's PM Moisturizing Lotion or La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Fluid. You could even add a few drops of Glycolic Acid to your moisturiser and then apply it! :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank u very much ❤️
Hi! thx for this info, I got intrested listening to it, but then you never mention what serums good to combine with glycolic acid?. Im now in my late 40's, I dont have any skin problems but starting having melasma on my face. Im thinking if I can use the 7% glycolic acid toner + retinol serum + azelaic cream at night? Hope you will notice my message. Thanks & Godbless
Hey! :)
You may have success with topical over-the-counter products like the ones you've mentioned.
Glycolic Acid (you can use any serums, except for the ones that conflict): ruclips.net/video/NE3j3LPcaGE/видео.htmlfeature=shared

Well, as I already mentioned, I recommend sticking with your dermatologist's advice 🙂
Hi Melissa,
I am very confused please let me know if i can use gycolic acid the next day after using AHA BHA peeling mask
I have a guide for this:
Can I use The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution with Glycolic, Lactic or Salicylic Acid:
ruclips.net/video/uDkmG9mInAs/видео.html
Thank you very much.
Dear Melissa which of the ordinary product is best for removing acne spots, dark spots and brown spots from face????
Have a look at the Ordinary Vitamin C products and Alpha Arbutin :) and maybe include an exfoliating acid like Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thanks alot dear.. And I have glycolic acid with me but whenever I use glycolic acid and Niacinamide I feel small tiny red spots on my face ..... And yes I will definitely buy alpha arbutin and vitamin c on your recommendation and i will let you know the results .... Thanks again 🌹❣️❣️❣️
@@amberqadeer4207 And what if you use Niacinamide and Glycolic Acid in separate routines? Does it still happen?
You're welcome :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDietright now I am not using them in seprate routine but now I will try to use these two products in seprate routine from today onwards..... Thanks for the suggestion... ❣️💞
Hi Melissa! I have acne-prone skin and I think glycolic acid is not good for me ( I tried like 2 weeks but my acnes getting more) first of all i want to get rid of my acne.
Should I use benzoyl peroxid gel and
what percentage would you recommend to start with this acne gel %5 or %10?
Hey! :)
Glycolic Acid isn't really helping acne-prone skin. It may be great for dark spots but not for active acne.
Go either with a 4% BP Cleanser or Cream/Gel or a 2% Salicylic Acid Cleanser, Solution or Gel.
Have a look at the video below:
How to use Panoxyl Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser and Differin Gel for Acne-Prone Skin: ruclips.net/video/nu1Wo9O_6e0/видео.html
or this:

You also need to figure out what's causing your acne...like diet (sugar and milk, etc), stress, and hormones...because the above-mentioned products are only treatments.
This is a great video..♥️
I hope you make one, sharing what you feel after you applied each product.. Im using glycolic acid, I dont know if what I feel/skin reaction is normal , how will I know if its just a purging or it irritates my skin...
I dnt know if this made me broke out..(i dnt if its break out or purging) have little bumps on my face the next day after using this and its a bit itchy.. its usually on the corner of my face, but im stll figuring out it might be the new shampoo that I use..
by the way, evey time i use glycolic when i blow to my face, my face feels hot.. is it normal?
maybe i put so much?
you know what, it has a fast visible result, it really smoothens/flattens the skin, but the next day after using this i have little bumps which is itchy.. I really really hope its just purging
By the way, I love using it on my armpit.. 😊 my arnpit is so smooth,
hair is growing very slow, i think if i continue using this they will not grow anymore hehe which i like..and no need to put deo..
Hey :)
Thank you :)
How often do you use it during the week? And what else do you use when using it?
WOW! Good to hear that it works so well for your armpits :)
only twice a wk, because the 1st i use it..I feel that its too strong, its kinda hot.. Maybe I put a generous amount before..?😅
I used it tonight, put 4 drops only on cotton pad, feels better than before.. No hot feeling at all..I really really hope it works for me..I believe its amazing product, maybe theres product that dont much, or i too much exfoliate or put generous amount? or i need a better moisturizer?.. Im oily before, and happy that im not oily anymore, but as days goes by, im becoming drier..
these are the products that I use,
-Salicylic Acid Masque, Once a wk
-TO Glycolic, Twice a wk
-TO Niacinamide, Every am and pm
-I WHITE KOREA Moisturizer, Every am and pm
-BIORE UV watery essence SPF 50 pa++++ Every am
Hi I'm back here again. I'm concerned about continuing this product because I'm using this for three weeks now and I use it 3-4 times a week. But I don't know it's just that whiteheads are just everywhere on my skin. Is this normal when you use this Miss Melissa?
And can I use a 2 percent salasylic acid once a day and glycolic acid every other night?.
How do you use the product what else do you use in your routine?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I was using a kojic based acid soap with papaya extract as cleanser. I wash my face twice a day. And I use glycolic acid every other day or 3 times a week. And it's been actually three weeks now. But as I observed my face has gotten more whiteheads. I have no active pimple. My face is actually clear except for the fact that my face literally got whiteheads all over miss Melissa. But I don't use any moisturizer after using glycolic acid.
@@leeayden6377 Okay, and when did you start using your Kojic Acid soap? 🤔
Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner = Hydrating Toner
Glycolic Acid Toner = Exfoliant
More information here: docdro.id/YNtqWFJ
If you only use Differin every other day, you can use the toners when not using it.
Correct.
So, you can use it like this:
PM 1:
- Cleanser
- Good Molecules Toner
- Adapalene
- (Optional) Moisturizer
PM 2:
- Cleanser
- Glycolic Acid Toner
- (Optional) Moisturizer
Alternate between PM 1 and PM 2 throughout the week :)
It's fine to just use Glycolic Acid once per week or more often depending on what your skin tolerates.
Have you already bought TO Glycolic Acid Toner?
Hi, also can I use vitamin C one day and other days retinol? Or can I apply vitamin C in the morning and retinol and panoxyl facewash in the evening? Thank you ✨✨
Hey :)
What Vitamin C product do you want to use?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank you for replying, I want to use any vitamin c serum for my acne pigmentation. If you can suggest any , please do suggest. 😀
Already using niacinamide and alpha arbutin since very long but it’s not working for me .
@@nidaawan8499 Since you already using Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin, my suggestion would be The Ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside 12% Solution.
Hi melissa!💞
Can I use the glycolic acid 7% toning solution and the granactive retinoid 2% emulsion in the same rotine?
Yes, however, if you experience sensitivity, alternate days.
Hello can i use first Cerave Renewing SF cleanser (salicylic acid, exfoliates)
Then can i use glycolic acid and then niacinaminde +zinc acid? Then. Moisturiser and spf 30 sunscreen It’s ordinary product.. it is ok? For this product please let me know. I havw sensitive oily acne , scar skin.
Thanks in advance.
It is not the best product for oily skin, and your cleanser has a higher pH. The best would be to use a Salicylic Acid cleanser with a lower pH and not use the AHA (Glycolic Acid)
AHAs are generally used for dry sun-damaged skin, which is not sensitive.
(I prefer the cleanser)
I suggest doing it like this:
Morning:
The Inkey List SA Cleanser
SPF
Evening:
The Inkey List SA Cleanser
(Hydrating Toner, Serum or Essence)
Niacinamide
The Ordinary Moisturizer
dear melissa thank you for the amazing and educiated video...is it ok to put before the Glycolic Acid hyaluronic acid? my basic routine after cleaning is hyaluronic acid then serum and the rest i thought to use it between is it ok? thank you
Yes, you can use Glycolic Acid and Hyaluronic Acid in the same routine. Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar and should not be confused with exfoliating acids such as Glycolic Acid :)
- Cleanser
- Glycolic Acid
- Hyaluronic Acid
- and the rest! :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you for the fast and helpful answer 💖
Hi can I use cerave moisturising cream after peeling solution AND tonning solution ?
Yes you can
Hi Melissa!
If I already have Mandelic Acid, do I need this too? My main concern is black heads, blemishes and pores.
