I love the ending when Luke was trying to think of anything nice to say and the best he came up with was, "Well, they certainly tried something."
If you reach the end of the game, it turns out the kraken is dead. The final scene is you interacting with its friends and family at the funeral. It's The Kraken's Wake.
It just turns out the game mistook the apostrophe location
I love that the attempted implementation of AI (and a somewhat cartoonish facial design for the characters) turns an adaptation of a 1953 apocalyptic sci-fi novel (wherein about 80% of humanity die and the world suffers catastrophic environmental turmoil) into a wacky comedy.
Also i like how "there's no multiple choice, say what you want" means "most of the time the game will just ignore what you say and move on"
It's just like real life
But what WAS she wearing?
The whole game feels like a 'choose your own adventure' story combined with fairly basic chatbot functionality.
I don't think we have to worry about AI taking over voice acting or game writing any time soon... 😂
THATS A GREET POENT!
I am here for the Westaway chaos! Reminds me of Barista Simulator where Luke had to make his own fun
It's a bloody good thing that Luke and Ellen goofing off for 2 hours is worth watching on its own, because without that... My god what a slog.
That really is oxbox/oxtras strong point is they're all very good at making just them having a conversation entertaining
Yup. They're doing all the work with this one, for sure.
@@KratonWolfHopefully they don't have any serious long-term injuries from carrying games on their back.
Mystery Science Theatre Oxtra, basically. They krakened me up!
Kinda funny that Luke got the alien invasion angle completely right despite never having read the source material. I think most people nowadays would hear the title and assume it's a "great old one at the bottom of the ocean" sort of deal.
Reminds me of a comment Douglas Adams made about Starship Titanic. It had a conversation system based on the game putting together responses from thousands of conversation fragments. Early versions, he said, were like talking to a recently-concussed Norwegian. This looks like a bold effort but it ain't ready for showtime.
When I used to get up as a teenager at midday on a saturday, my Dad would greet me in our hallway with the comment _"The Kraken Wakes."_ 😄
Didn't understand the reference until I read the John Wyndham book, which is great btw.
Every time 'The Kraken Wakes' pops up, I like to imagine the reporter begins screaming that very phrase and blacks out, while AI colleagues watch on
You laugh now, but one day the game will figure out that you were laughing at it not with it! Then you'll see. Then you'll all see!
Are you a supporter of the Basilisk?
ellen’s utter shock at the scottish characters accent kills me every time i watch it 🤣
"You don't wanna be in Londoin right now. All the roads are shut, cos there's a big bit of wood in the way." That's our King you're talking about, Ellen.
I like the idea that it was day 20 of the voyage and captain winter begins the scene by saying hello, I am captain winter implying that he starts every conversation by introducing himself for the past 20 days
I don’t think I could accurately describe how much I need Luke and Ellen to finish this game
Can we Crowdfund it?
Also, the amount of times that Ellen's mic dropped out because of the volume of her laughing. 😁👌
This gave me some much needed belly laughs during a stressful weekend at work. 😂 Thanks Luke and Ellen for being you.
Enthralled readers and escaped panther hysteria - A FINE LINE
Oh it was panther! I heard panda and wasn’t looking at the subtitles
Escaped panther hysteria would be a great band name
"We're not using Gas Balls" pushed me over the edge
This game has more title slides than Saturday morning cartoons
Sometimes games pick weird and exciting ways to disguise their loading screens (As in "7 Weird Ways Games Disguised Loading Screens"). And sometimes they pick the same title screen every four and a half minutes.
The Scottish woman's voice is hilarious. It's like they've tried to make the accent entirely through a distortion effect.
I’ve read “The Kraken Wakes” so many times I’m gonna start using it as a euphemism.
1:17:00 So, Luke had to take a long walk to reach the end of a very short pier. The pier is a crackpot joke about swordfish, and the walk... WAS BANANAS!!
Step aside RE4R, we have our new game of the year right here. I hope memories of this stream will come back to me five years from now in vague and baffling fragments that convince me it all must have been a dream.
Your facial expressions alone made me burst with laughter! This was the most surreal comedy I've seen in a long time.
The facial expression after she said, she was upducted by aliens, was priceless. 😂😂
I was really struggling to remember the name of the game i wish it had a title card or two to remind me
This birtthday party is just way too realistic for my taste xD
That phone doesn't seem to be on speaker, but everyone knows every conversation that occurs on it. Strange. Everything else in the game is perfectly sensible and rational though.
Video starts at 1:15
Thankee.

Danke schön
Gracias
Thanks my dude
This is the future that Matt Berry has been preparing us for all these years
"It was just an overweight cat. And Barry will never work as a journalist again."
Well...AI isn't taking our jobs just yet.
Greetings from Japan! It's great watching your guys' streams together! This one was a lot of fun! I also really liked the mario + rabbids 2 stream as well. Here's hoping for a more Luke and Ellen streams! Possibly Tears Of The Kingdom?
We need to see more of this game! or rather, we need to so more of Luke's mind breaking over the lunacy that is this game!
The silent intro really gives you all the info you need about this insane stream😂
Looks like this is just context aware tree-based dialogue, rather than the newer Large Language Model modality. Take a look at 'Ingame' and their solution as implemented in Skyrim. It's much more impressive. That said, I'm very impressed with what they accomplished with older tech!
I like how Freddie decided you are a rascal & stopped reacting to your hassling. Or at least that's what I've decided to think happened.
Well this is definitely a thing that exists
Holy carp! This game is terrifying! ... Just not for the reasons that may have been intended.
I don't think we have much worry about AI awakening to destroy us in the near future.
This was an amazing stream, I laughed hard enough that it hurt.
*AI Character: Here's your journal
Luke: I can't read or write
*AI Character: (ignores that; moves on)
All this taught me is that, when the robot uprising comes, they'll just ignore all of our silly human foibles and pretend we're competent slaves regardless of what we do. _*Phew!_ What a load off! 😄
Muriel sounds like when the Tazmanian Devil spoke english in the old Looney Tunes.
If this is the future of gaming, count me out.
Not a lot is happening in this game based on a book where 80% of the population dies horribly.
I’m guessing it’s based off a Lovecraft novel?

@@woodencoyote4372 Gotcha thank you!
@@kingofravens215 I promise, the book is a lot more interesting than this game makes it seem
Again it's appropriate for chat to shout about bananas in an oxtra stream. Fascinating
Mike sounds like that voice over narrator you get on stuff like 'police interceptor's and 'cant pay, we'll take it away'
This game is utter madness.
Great video.
Bananas.
I'm not even 10 minutes in and just loving Luke's chaos and Ellen's face.
Edit: 22 minutes in and I'm crying with laughter and barely able to see. Kiss me while we burn!!
Ellens facial expressions thru all of this...
the makers of this game made some bold claims that they most certainly did not live up to.
That's because "AI" (Chatbots) are the next NFT for the Tech-Grifter crowd.
1:42:23 I diieeeed 😂😂😂😂😂💀💀 omg that voice tho!
Stream gas balls off at 1:14! What a strange stream, it is.
The Crack UNs Wake.
Good to know we dont have to worry about AI taking over human jobs after all 😂
6:00 she wasn't kidding about the humidity
Even without the questionable ai sourcing, this game is just badly made. You still need to put time and practice in and thats what a lot of ai bros hate doing
Yep, it’s all well and good to have a gimmick like “we used AI for our NPCs!”, but the base game experience should be _excellent_ to support that. Here they’re leaning on the gimmick while their NPCs walk through doors like they’re not there and…everything else wrong with this game. 😂
There was a game on the PS2 that tried voice controls - Lifeline. It was legendarily bad. I still remember X-Play’s review.
SOCOM came with a headset so you could issue orders to the other three members of your team. It was a nice idea, but easier and quicker to use the regular controls.
Luke talks to an AI npc over an ingame phone, but gets amazed by the cord physics…
Because cord physics is actually good, unlike the AI?
This might be my favourite live video ever 😂😂😂
Not thrilled about everyone trying to use this broken technology to replace actual writers 🙃🙃🙃
Oh god, this entire thing feels like a bizarre vivid dream, it is so bizarre and awful. If it wasn’t for Luke and Ellen’s shenanigans and laughs bringing us to reality I would have been freaked out!
THATS A GREET POINT
It feels like the conversation is on rails except for specific prompted moments.
I'm only up to the first meeting with Muriel and I'm dying, holy 😂
I keep waiting for Mike to say things are about to get dicey.
"Do you bollocks, everyone likes Lord of the Rings" 10:20
37:17 Ellen's reaction to our favorite Scott-ish newspaper employee
Honestly, this game is kinda shitty. It's very unimpressive for something that claims to be all about communication. It feels like they sunk all their time and budget into the ai and then didn't even do a good job with that. I'd be even more disappointed if I found out they didn't even create the ai engine themselves.
Prepare for more disappointment, they did not.
Fun fact, that particular exception that the game threw could have bluescreened their computer. Thankfully unreal catches bad programmers' exceptions for them.
what a wonderful weird stream, i like how Luke tried to break the game. not to sure on the ascent the game was trying to go for but an attempt was made
i can't help but wonder are oxboxtra holding back some kind of 7 gas balls list from us.
also more importantly is there a Banana ending and is Luke still on track to get that ending
"Bananas" needs to appear in the next Jackbox meta.
How did they not notice "Gernalism 101 Mike" at 27:00 😂
Starts at 1:15
Thx :)
I enjoy how the frame of Luke's camera image occasionally gives him a flat top haircut. 😂
Mike sounds like Jason Statham... sometimes...
Absolutely loved seeing the two of you break this game. I would love to see you do the same to games like Facade! Bugger
PLEASE keep playing this
This game gives me flashbacks to Facade.
as bad as this game is, it did make me add the book to my reading list
coming back to say I read it and it's extremely good
"No. *Something* Firealls. Try again."
Riveting gameplay. AI is the future.
Well, this was a way to spend a couple of hours...
"Giant gas balls farting across the sky."
I can't stop laughing at the redhead she sounds like she is slowed down so we could understand her
This is the hardest I've laughed for weeks 😂 Thanks for a truly hilarious stream Oxtra
I'm begging for them returning to this
Hi guys, I just missed the live stream but I wanted to tell you two that I recently completed Dark Souls 3 and I had the adventures of May Sunshine II playing to spur me on while completing it
Well done!
The title to this video alone makes me think of Peter Molyneux's Project Milo so I am already prepared for disaster
This is one of the funniest things on the internet.
37:20 Ellens face!!! 1:42:25 1:50:38
oh deary, deary me. What a terrible thing to inflict on the world. The game not Ellen & Luke obviously. The book is one of my favorites and see it bludgeoned to death like this made me want to weep. Thank heavens we didn't get as far as the Crack! Boom! Song... dread to think what that would have been like!
This is very much a reminder that just because something has an AI, doesn't mean it's good. A thermostat is an AI, video game enemies are AI, and this unfortunate mess of a game.
1:21:01 - I forgot that Ellen can do a nice Southern accent.
Now I'm even more excited to watch Andy's campaign; just hoping she's there.
51:14 probably the Netherlands, up to their usual fireballs antics
2 hours of pure British sass. This is what technology was made for.
Looks like some AI researchers very first try into gamedev lol.
The Butlerian Jihad: not coming any time soon. 😂
That was pretty hilarious. I wouldn't mind if they kept playing
I was hoping for ChatGPT-style lulz, but got pure jank lulz. At least lulz were had.
18:00 It's Seaman, reincarnated! 😱
You’re in a flooded office. Do you work for the Water Board by any chance?
