  • When Emmanuel-Philibert, Duke of Savoy, moved his capital to Turin in 1562, he began a vast series of building projects (continued by his successors) to demonstrate the power of the ruling house. This outstanding complex of buildings, designed and embellished by the leading architects and artists of the time, radiates out into the surrounding countryside from the Royal Palace in the 'Command Area' of Turin to include many country residences and hunting lodges.

"Francois Savoie married Catherine Lejeune" Then you and I are cousins!!! ALSO, the Savoie's married into so many different Royal Houses, if you have any ancient European Royal House in your ancestry, you are probably related to the Savoies! My Dad's Mom was a Boucher/Choquette, and both lines went to the Savoies!

Residences?? I don't think so. The Savoy's never lived in them--the interiors are bare--never have been liveable. The exteriors are basic like most Italian buildings and the Italians have never cared for interiors.

@@rob5197 the video is from 3 years ago and many of these buildings have been renovated, but I think the problem is that what you see that hasn't been renovated is the type of building that is different from your country, in Italy the laws are very strict where reconstructions are prohibited. then we have such a large number of historic buildings that restoration is impossible, we are not America with 4 buildings
