Just used your video as a guide while installing my first brand new wood stove in my very first home as a homeowner. It’s a single wide mobile home as well and I can’t thank you enough for giving me the inspiration to believe I could do it all myself... Using only your video and one other like it as install references, and videos from northline express for the parts, and a few videos from other people all over the world on how to properly use it and all I need to know about wood... I just had a very successful, and safe first fire in it! I just wanted to express my gratitude to you for making this, (and all of your other videos I have watched now) and let you know how much of a positive impact you are having on more people than you even know. I thank you and a couple other people personally and would shake your hand if I ever had the opportunity to. I’m going to enjoy many cold snowy nights now in my warm home thanks in big part to people like you. Thank you from my family to yours! -Jason, Erin, Ryder🐶, and now our newest addition to our family come April of ‘21! - from Colorado 🏡 🏔 🔥 🙌🏽😁

Thank you Jason for saying that! I am really glad that this video was able to help you out. This was one of the hardest things for me to do. Thank you!

Be careful about inserting the stove pipe going upward, into the next section. That way, creosote leaks backward thru the joint, and drips into your home.
Always install stove pipe inserting the top section into the lower section.
That way the creosote will drip backward into the inside of the pipe, and be self-contained.
I learned this the hard way!

I like the fact that you don't pretend to be an expert, or a know it all. You work fast, and the install is excellent!

Wood heat is the bomb! In our former home in the mountains of NC, not far from where you live, we had a 5' long huge woodstove for backup in our 3 story 3500 sq. ft. home, at our blueberry farm. On Christmas Eve 2000 it began to snow and eventually we became without power. Thank good news for our huge woodstove. We fired her up and cooked on and heated our home for 4 days till the power came back on. It was so cozy and warm to use the woodstove. I love wood heaters.😊🌲🌲🌲

We installed ours using your video! Only problem was we built tile hearth (floor, back and sides) prior to checking to see where studs were. Pain in the butt! Had to cut THROUGH studs and build c braces. Check where your studs are FIRST before you do anything. Otherwise, your video took us through complete install! We had some issues with ordering parts and knowing what we needed but ordered Duravent double wall system from Northline Express. Their sales rep helped us with parts and adapters plus they have a RUclips channel that has plenty of videos that describe piecing together the stovepipe pieces. Thank you for great instructional video that walked us through each step!

I think it's great that you guys are DIY and not afraid to tackle new jobs. I'm confused about the heat though, if it's not heating up the shelf or anything around it, how is it heating the house? From our past experiences wood stoves should really heat things up. My only critique, stop using drywall screws for everything! And keep an eye on that roof. Water leaks are a mobile home's worst enemy. All in all, good job and excellent learning experience. We look forward to installing one of our own someday.

I have the same wood stove. The sides really don't heat up much at all, when compared to the single wall pipe a foot above the stove itself. The same goes for the area behind the stove as he demonstrated. It really backs up the manual's indications of clearance to combustibles, which is as close as 10' with single wall stove pipe, and 8' if using double wall. Hard to believe until you actually experience it ( was about to waste a weekend installing a heat shield ).But the thing provides a surprisingly large amount of heat, compared to an old Efel Kamina I'm used to.

Great tutorial video. To get a longer wood burn, I suggest you install a damper in the exhaust flue out the top of the stove. This will slow the burn. Useful at night so you dont have to get up and feed the fire. The woodstove will develop a personality and from our family experience we named it "Smokey". After fire is out, closing the damper will prevent a downdraft of cold air dumping ash, smokey smells and a cold draft into the room. Having said that, enjoy. Your family has a new member!!!

    • @williamseipp9691

manufacturers don't recommend a damper. Doesn't need it actually.

Very nice. We have a zero clearance fireplace that is absolutely useless to us. You can build a fire in it but it's essentially colder in the home because our heat goes up the chimney will burning. Maybe with your video I can convince my wife to make a change. We are also in a mobile home. I'm sure if you are in Western NC then you are enjoying your wood stove on a snowy day today!

Excellent job and video. You need a poker to move the coals and wood. I get free wood off Craigslist and Facebook and how noticing where utility companies trim under power lines. They leave wood. I have a rechargeable battery chainsaw that has been going strong for 3 years. But the chain needs sharpened -another skill. Splitting wood is a workout that is actually enjoyable. My grandpa 🧔🏼taught me how to split wood and use a couple of wedges if need be.

When you put the flashing under the shingles you need to go up as many layers as possible never put silicone under the flashing that goes towards the endge of the roof. That can creat a dam if water does get under it cut your shingles to fit around pipe and use silicone under the shingles you lifted up and remove any loose nailes or staples that may have come loose. In your climate you dont worry about alot of snow but further north the ice will back up on tje roof and if everything isnt hunky dory it will get up under the shingles get warm and leak

Excellent job as always! Growing up with wood stoves I cringe every time I see how close you albums are to your stove. I would definitely consider moving them away from the stove and installing some protective material to the walls around it. Just a thought, purely out of concern for you all. Are you enjoying the fruits of your labor? Blessings...

How much does it heat up that one room? I'm guessing it doesn't heat up the whole house, however, if something ever happens to your gas or propane tank, you have that to fall back on. I was without gas for 3 days and I wished I had something like that. I'm glad I stumbled on this video.

Does it heat your entire home like keeps every room comfortable? I am trying to do away with electric heat and my landlord told me I could put a Woodstove in. I used to have a Woodstove in my old mobile home I used to have but the issue I was having was getting the entire 70ft trailer heated with it. I used to also burn let the pipe get to 500 degrees for a half hour once a week and never had issues with creasote build up.

The best cleaner for the window on your wood stove is wood ash and newspapers dampened with water. That takes off all the burnt on deposits from the fires. A little trick we learned from Vermont Castings, a wood stove company.

I would really like to have a wood stove in my double wide, I live out in the bush a bit and am stuck using propane for heat in the winter. My yearly propane (just for heating) costs around $1600. The problem is my home insurance said that if I put a wood stove in, my insurance would pretty much double from $1100 a year to a little over $2000 a year. Meaning I would have to save $900 in propane every year, plus the cost of going out myself and getting firewood, just not sure if it would be worth it overall.

Couple questions...you said that there wasn't any heat next to the records and behind the wood stove...I this because of the blower fan? If so, what about when the power goes out...have you tried it without the fan? Also, why did you choose to use double wall on the stove to the ceiling...was it an insurance thing? Why did you choose to not use a damper in the flue pipe? In my experience not having one makes burn times shorter as all ( or most of) the heat travels up the flue which in turn costs more in wood. Thanks for the video, I have done something similar in a mobile home when I changed over a customer from electric to propane...it's a pain for certain! Nice job!

I hope you trimmed those shingles to sit flat on roof and put a bit of sealant under to hold down. If you get a stiff wind under those shingles they can get ripped off.

  • @kennyp507
    @kennyp507 5 лет назад

Nice install, pretty much by the book with exception to the sheet rock screws holding the support box, don't sweat the silicone job, if that area on the shingles or class a chimney gets hot enough to affect the regular silicone then you have bigger issues to deal with.
The Englander 17vl is a small but proven work horse, its a convective heater, meaning it will heat the air through those vent holes and then send the heated air into the room, the blower running on low will help a ton, plus you have radiant heat through the large glass.
Wood moisture is the key with any new epa approved stove, buy a cheap moisture meter and test your splits, you want wood to be

My FIL cleans his Ashbox once to twice a day. Pretty much when he loads wood in. He uses harder wood at night so the fire doesnt go out. He also had the fireplace tools that are iron to move everything around as it burns down.

I don’t know anything about wood stoves so I hope this isnt a dumb question. If you can’t feel heat behind the stove or on the side of the stove where the records are how does it heat the house? What part of the stove is giving off heat and how is the heat getting to the rest of the house? 💕

its actually a great question. its the front that gives off the most heat, regardless of model. The first two feet of stove pipe is also quite hot as well, but the heat radiating from that isn't large enough for owners to be worried about it being lost out the chimney.

Is this your only heat source for the mobile home? We are planning to use a woodstove for our only heat source, and worry about getting the heat down the long hall. We have an old 720 sq ft single wide. Not the best insulation. We also live PA so not the worst wintets but not the best. How well does it keep the whole home warm?

I can tell you have pride in ownership. Interesting that you had to cut a hole for intake air. Most of the time in a home you don't have to have an air inlet. Good job.

Mobile homes are so tightly built that you need outside air for oxygen.

Thank you for making this video. I am about to embark on the same mission. This video is very well put together, with NO NONSENSE or BS filler. I RESPECT that,.. BC time is VALUABLE, and I like getting straight to the point. VERY INFORMATIVE! We are basically doing the same thing as yall are (I read your intro/bio) where we are trying to become mostly SELF SUFFICIENT in our way of living. I am a welder/fabricator by trade. Plus, we only live about a hour from yall,. Just down the mnt, on the SC/NC state line. We would love to get to know yall, and have more like-minded friends. BTW: I am about to SUBSCRIBE to YOUR CHANNEL. YOU will be the VERY 1st person/channel that I have EVER SUBSCRIBED too. (and I have been on RUclips for about 20 years.) And I'm about to go on a binge watching all of your videos. Thanks again.

Hi. I got a mobile home and it has a wood stove which looks sealed. Previos owner does not have info. Is this common on mobile homes. If so, why they are commonly not in use? Thank you
