- Finally installing the wood stove in the living room. We will use this for everyday use - but it's especially comforting to know we will have heat when the power goes out! It is a Vermont Castings stove, model Aspen C3, which heats 400-1200 sq ft. Our house is 900 sq ft.

It’s great that ur son is there to help u out. I’m so happy u moved there to be with ur family.

Just an FYI from a professional installer: you should have trimmed out the shingles for the first 2 rows down past the ridge vent and slipped the flashing under them. Rule of thumb is have the shingles over the top 2/3 of the flashing. Rain can seep/blow in the sides of the flashing if exposed, and no sealant will last for long under those conditions. And the damper issue is because of different brands of vent pipes. The damper is for Dura-vent and you are using a different brand/model of smoke pipe. The combustion air pipe elbow also could have been regular single wall 4" 30ga pipe which has an inside radius of only about 1" vs the double wall b-vent which has a much larger inside radius. Just some tips for anyone else watching this video. Otherwise looks great! Enjoy the warmth!
Make us a short video next time you get a opportunity. Add it to your comment . Ty
Thanks for the info
Seems like they worked it bass ackwards. If they would have started from bottom to top they maybe wouldn’t have ran into the problems of the 45* pipes and could have made it a straight shot. And working from bottom first you could have checked basement for cold air prior for joists.
Good comments here. No fun having your mistakes out in the open but it sure helped me with my install.
Father and son should do a home improvement show
I love wood heat. I was raised on it, and miss it a lot. It's so peaceful to relax by, on a cold winter evening too. 🔥
Can’t wait to see you burning wood, it looks really nice. Your son Barry sounds just like his dad, it’s so great that you have his help and his family so close to you! Great video!
Barry does sound just like his Dad! Fooled me at first
I love how you guys explain everything. I was just thinking, why put in a cold air supply, then Barry read my mind! Beautiful stove.
That was wonderful job you and Barry did. Can’t wait for you to show us when you fire 🔥 it up !.
What a fun video watching father and son work together! Such respect and love for each other came right through. Enjoy the warmth of the fire in the cold days ahead!
GOOD MORNING Bill.....I am sitting here with my little Grizzly goin' on a cold Michigan morning! I thank God I found you and the ever so lovely Elizabeth because I really would never have found out about the Cubic Mini stoves had it not been for you two. (you have BOTH been such a blessing).....so, I am making more coffee, sitting back and relaxing and will be watching you "boys" install THIS stove. God bless you and your family always!
❤️😊
Me too. It was because of Bill's reviews that I got my Grizzly. And I absolutely love it!!! Thanks Bill
Enjoy the coffee 🤣
You are very blessed to have a son who is willing to help his family. Not to mention how handy the both of you guys are!! Enjoy the heat from your stove!
How far from the wall is the stove base?
Hi Bill, Wow!! I am always so impressed with what great work that you and Barry can do!! Can’t wait to see when you fire it up. You’ll all be warm and toasty this winter. God bless you, Elizabeth, Pop, and Leo, Mary 🤗
Owwww ... I love your channel ... You and Rain country started me making vinegaretts
Love it and Barry - thank you so much for helping your dear mom and dad. You are a wonderful son. I am very blessed, I have 3 sons and a daughter just like you. God bless all of you! ❤
Bought mine today and I have a great handyman that is going to install ours next week. I CANT WAIT! ❤️❤️❤️
He has humor. I laughed and had fun. 😃 Great son! Love your new adition! Best time to be as self sufficient as possible!
You are so blessed to have such great kids. It's a real joy watching you two interact with each other. Great job all around.
Such a blessing Barry is and what a good feeling to have "backup" systems in place!❤️
Enjoyed watching you and Barry install the stove . It seems when doing a project it’s always more enjoyable when a person has a good helper . I remember my Dad and I restoring a jukebox. Dad and Mom have it in their basement that is set in the 50’s . I’ll never forget what a great time we had together ! God bless and have a wonderful day !
Love Barry’s sense of humor. Good job guys. Always thorough and informative
Wonderful video, Barry truly is a gift from God. Beautiful wood stove Bill, thank you for sharing 💕👍
Here's a tip you should wrap some wire screen on the floor vent side hole so bugs and mice can't crawl through the floor vent when not in use. Good job
God bless your son!! It's so nice to see and hear him appreciate and acknowledge all that his parents did for him!!
The family cooperation you all have I believe helps you a lot and gives you the incentive to keep going. Great!
I miss your tiny home videos but your new living situation is best for all of you - great video
Beautiful to see you all doing another project! God bless and Keep up the Good work! Love from Canada!
I love that you and your son are doing this together. We have been waiting for our wood insert to get installed for over 5 months now. Great vlog and very informative. Greetings and warm regards from Maryland my friend 🍻🔥💥
you should do a pre-burn before it gets cold and close all the windows. that way you can air out the house to get the burn off gases.
I always love seeing you and Barry working together, but this video of Barry helping you might be my favorite. He's a great husband, father, and son!!
nice family working together and your grand daughter is getting so big
The turn gives it character!
Thank you for explaining things as you go!
You are so lucky to be able to have a wood stove. Very lucky to have a helper to put it in. Now if you put a couple water storage drums in crawl space you are going to be in great shape for anything. Congratulations on another job well done. God bless & enjoy
So glad you're both ready for the cold weather...such a beautiful sweater on you, Elizabeth!!!
Beautiful. I loved watching the install.
Good job, Folks! Enjoyed the ingenuity in adapting the damper. That would have taken me at least two or three days to figure out, if at all! Look forward to seeing and hearing how you get on when the cold kicks in. Good luck!
Love the stove. You have a great son that helps his mom and dad You raised him right .🥰
The heat that you get from wood is so much better for you. It is a dry heat that warms you so much faster. Love it!
Another interesting project thanks ♥️♥️
Much love,
Patricia & Daniel
I’m going to need you to come to my house and repeat what you just did. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Looks great!❤️
If he doesn't I will lol.
@@donaldatkinson7937 🤣 If you live in Ga I would hire ya! 🤣😎
@@kjvonly2451 when you see videos a lot of the work has been edited out, they probably have 2 hours walking around looking for tools, I built a cabin back in the woods and a buddy and I did the same thing, then few years later replaced it, next time got to thinking I'm not getting any younger and went through the wall lol. I'm in SC by the way.
You can come do one for me. I grew up with a wood stove. Great heat
It is a blessing father and son working together. Good work! 😃
Wow great job! Always amazed at people who can accomplish things like this! I am very creative but not mechanical at all... Your son knows his stuff!! My Dad was a heating and air conditioning man and he always spoke of how fireplaces and such draw the air from other rooms in the house and it makes them very cold. The addition of the pipe to draw air from below is awesome! The apple did not fall far from the tree, both of you are very talented!!
Y'all need to come install mine. I've never seen it done so neat and precise
"The least I can do is keep you from freezing to death" 🤣 that's love. 😊💜
Great job guys! Can’t wait for colder weather for you to give us an update on how the stove performs. God bless. -Stephen, Ohio 🇺🇸
Great watching father and son working together.
Watching the camera bounce between you and your son is so weird. It's like seeing you young and then you "seasoned" 😉. He looks just like you. I love your channel and you and Elizabeth stay warm this winter. ❤️🤗
I thought he said it was his grandson
Same here, I was more listening than watching, so I thought he'd suddenly went bald, then shaved, then he was back with his regular self, then both in the same shot; but the voices are almost identical too. I claim distraction, as our outdoors just went from regular looking fall to covered in WHITE s***! Thanx for sending that our way,BTW!
Amazing to watch!! Your son handles the drill like, cowboys twirled their revolvers. It was cool to see his talents by assisting you! :) Great job! Great INVESTMENT!
This was a good Father and Son Home improvement . Look good . May you be Blessed .
I always enjoy watching how far you have come with your lovely home. Family working together is wonderful..
Excellent, got this on a to do list myself!
Y’all are blessed.
we are remodeling our home from the 70s it originally had a wood burning stove but was taken out in the 90s. me and my wife are going to put another stove back in to heat our home. this was the perfect video to help with the install! thankyou so much great vid!
So nice to see a video like this this is so many bad things world and then I come across this video and just makes me feel better but I have to say it was a chore for me to keep my woodstove operating properly I don’t miss that it’s nice to see a father and son and a family just come together and put something together I needed that thanks
I hope you can take us touring around the inside and outside of your homestead there... I love seeing the progress you've made. How cozy and charming... I could just imagine Pops all cozy & cuddled on the long sofa watching an old movie or reading a book...
Hey Bill you guys are awesome I love ya Bill it’s always a pleasure watching your videos you are so knowledgeable and you’re son is just like his Dad very nice job Thank you 🙏 you guys Take Care..❤️🙏☮️🇺🇸👍
I put in a wood stove last winter, and I love it. I have mine up on cinderblocks and I have the same thing that you have on the floor, on my wall. I have two of them because my stove is in the corner. I bought it for the same reason. The lights go out here a lot. I want to be warm no matter what.
My husband can do a lot of things around our homestead but that is one thing I would leave to the professionals. Hoping to one day have a wood stove in case of emergency. We currently have a kerosene heater for emergency (I hate the smell). We have a heat pump but living here in the south our bill isn’t bad during the winter. (It’s our terrible summers when our power bill is the highest.) You and Barry make an amazing team! Blessings ❤️
you "Americans" look so "benevolent" I think your faith makes you that way, thank you. Hello from France !!!!
Our faith gives us peace. ❤️😊
Wow, so nice! Thanks for sharing the cost too, I was wondering about that.
I love these install videos you do! You can tell Barry knows all the tricks of the trade..👍👍
That was a great video, and very informative. Thank you. You and your son work so well together. Nice to have so much talent in the family. And Elizabeth is so happy with it. Just wonderful.
I wish there was some way to show you the pictures of all the WOOD we have from the 2 trees taken out of are yard last weekend.
We have a fireplace and we've had to use it a time or two for power outages and snow.
We were able to share it with 4 OTHER neighbors! BOTH wood sheds are FULL!
Oh, we got word from our landlord, she has 2 other trees for us from other units/duplexes. SO, we're letting our next door neighbor's have one whole tree! Now, what to do with the other?
God has a way of answering prayers!
We were just discussing last month about how much $$$ for a cord this year and we ended up with 3 FREE!
Wonderful! God is so good!
Check out my Facebook page! The pictures are there!
Nothing like wood heat❤️🙏🏻✝️
Three times the heat from one third the wood of a fireplace...
So glad you life near Barry , that is so great and to enjoy your grands. I have a great grandson he will be 8 on my birthday. We cooked on our stove too. I made homemade bread on day and went with a friend to a auction. I was late and my husband had to bake the bread. Lol but he did a great job! God Bless!
Gorgeous wood burning stove! Berry is a hard working person. I enjoyed watching the whole process with the installation project and the pleasure you both will enjoy warm heat it provides for your home 👍
Peace of mind, I love it and it will be so nice. We paid way more for ours , we could use coal and and wood. Also could cook on it.
We can cook on ours as well.
A wire coat hanger also works well for locating attic holes.
What a blessing to have such a good son. God blesses us so much.
Great job guys. That double walled smaller pipe is also used for pellet stoves, makes perfect sense to use it on a wood stove too.
Cordless tools, that's one of the greatest inventions.
That's why a couple chemists won the nobel prize. Light powerful batteries allows tools to go cordless.
You should get one of those rails that go along the side.....even though that would heat up....it would prevent serious injury
They only need to bump into the stove once to then always give it wide birth ....... been there, done that. Shoot, my mom grew up with wood stoves being the only source of heat (and for cooking) ...... and there was never a rail around any of the stoves ...... and none of the nine children in the family ever got burned on the stove ....... maybe on the handle of the steam pot on the top of the stove if they forgot to use a pot holder (or the pot hook that was hanging on the wall right next to the stove)
I would say the elderly are more at risk, im not but if im ill, i will sometimes get out a chair and stumble a little or trip over a blanket.
Agree - it’s sitting right at the door to the living room! I would be afraid of running into it!
@@That1ufo good point
You and Barry make a great team. He is so knowledgeable and sweet - just like dad.
Very helpful, thank you. I moved to North Carolina last August from Oregon where I had a nice little stove to heat or cook on in emergencies. I got a bid for a smaller similar stove last Fall. The estimate I got was over $8,000, installed. I was mentally prepared for half that. Great job and so nice to have your son helping.
Just curious :) Are you putting vents in to other parts of the house? When I lived in Newfoundland years ago our friend had a similar woodstove and he put vents in the walls which he could open to let heat into other rooms or cool down the living room if it gets too hot...it worked great!
Possibly, but I haven’t developed that idea much yet.
We have a heat pump that we did not use for almost 20 years. We heat 100% with wood. I have a thermostatic switch on the wood stove that turns the forced air fan from the heatpump system on when the woodstove is warm and off when the wood stove is cold.
You and Barry should start a 'how to' channel called 'FREE HAMMOCK'. I would watch for sure! (Name was better than Live Empty...)
:-)
🤣
You guys did an awesome job I love how Bill has shown his son Barry how to have skills to be a man. This was awesome to watch
Nice stove with expert installation by you and Barry. All the best to all your family. You will stay warm when those cold winds blow. 😁💙💙
When you were filming the pipe installation from the top, was that a Flue Shot?
🤔, 😳😂🤪
🤣🤣🤣
Just wonder why the engineers haven’t developed a triple wall pipe or a Siamese where the stove would draw cold air from the attic. It would keep the flue cooler on outside. Prevent having to drill additional holes.
The flu must operate at the highest possible temperature. Above steam, above hydrocarbon condensation point. The more insulated the pipe the better the draw and the less creosote. Extracting heat from the pipe for combustion air, or any other reason, results in poor draft and creosote accumulation. I super insulated my SS steal pipe and I haven't needed to clean it for 35 years and draft is never an issue. Wood is my sole source of heat. I have no central heating system.
@@geraldmoore6257 how did you super insulate the pipe? Thanks for the idea. Wood is my main source of heat.
@@vecamiolo Every situation is different. You have to look at what your situation is and figure out if you can do it. The principal is sound - keep the flue gases as hot and possible and don’t take away heat on the trip up the flue. I bought an old farm house with a fireplace. I ran single wall SS pipe up the large chimney, sealed the bottom, then poured vermiculite (expanded mica) in until chimney was full. As soon as the smoke exits the back of the stove it’s in a super insulated environment. I can’t tell you how to do it in your situation, but I can say that it works. I check the flu every year and nothing but grey fly ash in the “T” at the bottom clean out. No black creosote. I do build one hot fire every morning with well seasoned wood and do not “bank” a fire at night. I super insulated the old house so doesn’t really cool off much overnight. Sorry I can't be of more help.
So interesting. Love to see yall working together. Looks great.
Pops is gonna be toasty warm this winter. Hugs to all
enjoyed watching Dad and Son put in your woodstove and your discussion afterwards thank you
Don't forget carbon monoxide detectors.
Yes! We had a security system I won’t mention names but it was supposed to cover carbon monoxide and I’m paranoid and bought a cheap detector from Walmart for back up well that saved my 4 kids husband and my life!!!!!!
@@kayleighm7856 My grand grand parents lived their entire life in houses equipped with wood stoves, so did my grandparents, my parents and me with another 3 brothers. We never ever had any issues with carbon monoxide. It can't happen, simple like that. The only way i imagine is if unexpected, a chimney suddenly get blocked, but even that has to happen at night. If it happen during the day you'll see immediately that the stove doesn't evacuate properly and you see/smell the fumes inside your house. Cleaning your chimneys from time to time doesn't hurt. Here In Europe we have law that required you to do just that!
Eyes open, No fear, Be safe everyone!
@@SpiderF27 - Have found flu-pipes and chimneys partially and fully blocked by wasp nests that were installed during the summer as well as a good accumulation of 'cobwebs' . Am surprised by how resistant the cobwebs were to heat ! ( Am an ex- Air-Heat Service Tech )
The first start / fire-up when it gets cold is when you should do your pre-season safety check , and often with the windows open since simple dust accumulation can produce some smoke & odor . Take care , RH
@@richardhobbs9038 As i said, a periodic clean up is required. Thanks for your input!
@@SpiderF27 not true we had CO2 poisoning and there was no smell or smoke and it was from the pipe of our Woodstove. The fire department said if we had went to bed we wouldn’t have woken up (had 4 young children at the time) my husband was like you and thought I was crazy calling the fire department when the CO2 detector went off but when the fire department got here they ended up having my kids get oxygen go in the aumbulance and my house had to all be opened and huge fans for like an hour the levels were extremely high they showed me with the CO2 gun they had. Sometimes only the paranoid survive.
Make sure you film/vlog your first fire burn in the stove!!!
Yup, soon, 😁
@@LiveSimpleLiveFree might want to fire it up on a "just cool day" so you can burn it in...it will smoke a little cuz it has oil res to keep from rusting...that way you can open the house up to let smoke out...hope you understand what I'm trying to say...
Great addition to your beautiful home! Miss seeing you guys around town. Wishing you well! Loving your raised garden beds! I've had mine for @ 10 years, but I'm liking the height of yours.....plus the concrete blocks as opposed to the wooden ones I made. Also, LOVE the "cages" that protect the plants from foraging critters. I don't have that , although my garden is protected by fencing. Doesn't stop the smaller critters and birds from getting in and devouring all of my peppers....even the Ghost Peppers, believe it or not. Ugh! I'm going to have to rethink my garden for next year. The zucchini take up so much room! Darn it. But I love them! Haven't had much luck with cucumbers this year. So nice to see you both in the video. wishing you well! ❤️✌️👍🏻
That will be nice to sit and watch on a cold winter night.. I didn't know how expensive wood stoves were, but I'm sure it will be a good investment. Glad your son could give you a hand. You guys make a good team.
RUTH HERE, I HATE ICE STORMS
What is it about this channel and Wood fired stoves!!....☺️😀👍..
"Prepper" heat! We will never be without a heat source.
Its really nice to have help with projects like that! Nice job.
I have never been crazy about cast iron stoves but that o e is beautiful! It looks great!
Yes, know Barry did a great job but I still start to hyperventilate when I see someone cutting a hole into a watertight roof. Good work!
The real problem is that they did that all wrong. If it's not leaking yet, it will.
I just noticed that your son not only looks like but he talks like you too.
No difference if you don't see them to keep them apart.!
@@tinekejoldersma I noticed that.
I noticed that too. Genetics are funny.
Always a pleasure watching you and your family.
Loved watching you do this as a family.
Great job Barry and Bill.you will love it.❤🤗
Praise God for this video! Thank you! Jill from Baudette Minnesota 🤗
My grandparents also had a wood stove in the basement of their house for emergencies, if we would ever lose power for two weeks during the ice storms as well. I don't remember them ever using it, but it was nice to have the reassurance that it was there just in case.
So interesting to watch the install! Enjoy your new stove!
Come on cold weather! Can't wait to see the new stove fired up. Nice job!
Good job guys. ...love a woodfire stove, the best heat.
And so cozy with the smell of the wood and all.
Your going to be so warm and cozy. 👍♥️
Hi from Cyprus well you both have done a wonderful job well done I love all your videos right from your tiny house I have enjoyed every one thank you both god bless .
I grew up in Moab Utah. I saw the Arches National Park and missed my childhood. Congrats on the Woodstove install. I bet it paid of this month.
