I am determined to get as much fusion and resolve knowledge under my belt as I can during this lockdown and every time I get stuck, you seem to have a video to help me out. Thank you so much for taking the time to produce these tutorials, don't think I would have gotten this far without your help... excellent channel.
Thank you for you detailed explanation without talking down to me. As a newbie (real new!) everyone expects me to know the basics, like what a marker is and does and why and how it's different from a flag. You really nailed it for me. Even the Resolve PDF did nothing to clear up the fog. Thank you!
Thank you JayAreTV for helpful tips. I made shortcuts for the 10 best colors in DaVinci Resolve. I use the keys: Ctrl + Alt + 0 to 9 for 10 colors. DaVinciResolve > Keyboard Customization > Commands > Mark > SET CLIP COLOR Ctrl + Alt + 0 = TEAL Ctrl + Alt + 1 = VIOLET Ctrl + Alt + 2 = ORANGE Ctrl + Alt + 3 = BLUE Ctrl + Alt + 4 = LIME Ctrl + Alt + 5 = BROWN Ctrl + Alt + 6 = TAN Ctrl + Alt + 7 = APRICOT Ctrl + Alt + 8 = NAVY Ctrl + Alt + 9 = PURPLE Thank you again JayAreTV
I have to say, I'm glad I subscribed to your channel quite a while back. When I first opened Davinci Resolve 15 I was overwhelmed but slowly over time, I am becoming more fluid with it and am slowly learning how to navigate this powerful tool. Much attributed to your tutorials. A big thanks to your videos and channel. Keep em coming! -Will
Man, I have been trying to use Davinci to edit coming from FCPX but it is SO frustrating. My normal workflow in FCPX was to make selects and mark them as favorites then click show favorites and then just grab and throw clips from my favorites selects to the timeline. But it seems in Davinci whatever selects I make get all thrown on the timeline and is a nightmare to take out of the timeline, I make a lot of selects. Is there any way to work around this in DaVinci...? Anyway of grabbing my selects and throwing them all in a bin or folder and then be able to just choose from that folder what I want to put on the timeline..??? I have searched everywhere and cannot find any good tutorials on how to achieve this. Why the heck does Davinci throw all my quick selects on the timeline....? I would appreciate any advice.... Thanks! PS. Text tab only seems to show up on the Cut page and NOT on the edit page...? WTH?
Hey man, this was really helpful :) I thought 16 minutes was long for such simple functions, but it was great to see in what situations you can use them!
How do I see a list of markers? Let's say is a log interview, and I place markers for b-roll. Is there a way to see a list of the markers, double click one of them and see where the marker is on the clips and place the broll there?
Ok, 9 months ago, but if you guys haven't figured already - and for others who may be reading - click on the EDIT INDEX tab, then the three dots on the right top of that window you'll get a list of options including SHOW MARKERS.
One thing I have been searching for is a way to search markers (names/descriptions) that are attached to a clip. The markers that are attached to the timeline can be displayed in a list via the three dots > markers, however I can not find a similar option for clips. I like your content. Keep it up.
I use the Option key to split up the markers to add notes or a keyword to a portion of a clip. This is very handy for using multiple timelines, marking up different parts of a clip and exporting a timeline for use in another project.
Thanx man! You really helped me A LOT. As a PP guy a used to use colors everytime! It was difficult for me to find "SET clip color". I was finding only "Clip color" option. And it didn`t work at all. So I found some random "move up" option that was above "set clip color" in your video. And then I did it! I thougt it may be usefull for overs) Liked and subbed)
Hi Thank you for the video. I am learning Davinci. May I ask one question? I color coded my clips in Cut panel. and I want to put same color code's clip line up? or should i select eachone and move? Thank you
My Davinci Keyboard Preference panel looked different. Took me a while to find SET CLIP COLOR. For me it was under Application (left column), open Application (right column), select Mark, then scroll down on the most right options to find SET CLIP COLOR
How do you make selections in a timeline within the Edit tab based on metadata? I have an edited timeline from a Multicam drp from ATEM switcher using non-Black Magic cameras. I flagged one of the ISO files that needs to be replaced with the in-camera 4k source video. I see I can sort the flags in the Color tab easily and use that to make selections, but not how to make selections based on flags in an active timeline in the Edit Tab. Hopefully, my question makes sense. Thanks for the video!
Can you bring each clip with a different color into the timeline? Example -1st clip Red, 2nd clip yellow, 3rd clip purple etc without changing each color once it is in the timeline?
Excellent! QUESTION... Backstory... In Premiere Pro CC I would add a Master timeline and add all of my videos to it and make color corrections etc etc. THEN show this MASTER TIMELINE in the The Source Monitor where I use Markers (Orange for IN points and light orange for OUT points) to select areas to "cut" out later and drop into my working timeline (That shows in the Program Monitor) where transitions and other editing occurs. VERY fast editing as I quickly build up many in/out markers that I move to and create the in/out and drop it into my working TL. I move marker by marker creating new IN/OUTS to drop. QUESTION: How do I create a similar workflow in Davinci?
*is there any way to copy and paste markers? because I am editing a video where I need a consistent beat of evenly spaced markers, and I cant figure it out!*
Ok, six months ago... I am doing a similar thing. I use SonicVisualiser which is a sound analysis framework and you have plugins to detect note onsets, beats, notes, etc. Each plugin annotates the music track in a seperate layer and you can export these layers as xml files, and then write a script to import these annotations as markers. I am doing this in Vegas pro, but I am looking now into how to do the same thing in Davinci Resolve which has also a python or lua based script interface. So there you go. The only thing is, that in Vegas Pro you can see the marker label directly on the marker itself, while in Davinci Resolve you get these pop up menus when you hover over them, which is less convenient when you have like 1000 markers annotating notes, beats, etc...
How do you filter Media Pool search by marker or flag color? Ie. I want to mark my favs and afterward quickly and easily filter and select the marked clips to import into the timeline, rather than dragging and dropping as I go
Thanks. How do you filter search results based on flags? Ie. I have flagged two clips in different bins that I want to quickly select to use together, without browsing the bins looking for them later.
is there a way to create chapters in Resolve? Cant find anything anywhere. Basically i'd just like to be able to skip playback forward to the next section instead of fast forwarding. I assumed markers would be able to do this but doesn't seem to work.
Yeah, like to know more about flags and markers. Like, how to use name, note and most of all keyword. Searching for methodes to transcript, group or have a solution to structure interviews and b-roll. Also DaVinci does not have a powerful search, you need to be in the right bin, select the right search field. (?)
Is there any way to make each video track have a different color automatically? I would like to have one color for the videos on track 1, another color for track 2 and so on. But without having to do it manually.
8:26 - you can set markers on the timeline and you can set markers on the clip itself thank you. this is why I watched this clip - I wanted an answer if DaVinci can do this
Hi, nice vid, thanks. Can you make a video about stabilize motion in davinci? I don't find anything similar on youtube with this software, just with AE
Very good video! Im currently working on a project where i need to animate some text to music in fusion. Is adding markers at the beats a good solution for that so i can visualize it or is there a better way. Thanks for your help everyone
That's what I did. I added markers to show where the beat markers would be in the song. I'm sure they'll update Fusion in the future so you can hear/see your music instead.
Hello, one question I have been using Davinci Resolve for a couple of days now...Why if i set a marker time or duration of 1:25 automatically changes to 2:00
Ummm jay do you coulor grade your davinchi videos as I am finding my clip colours very desaturated for some reason -on an 100% adobe RGB Dispaly- at the very least thank you because I was struggling to find the clip colour because the search in the keyboard shortcuts has issues with it and aperently applying it to the panel dose not make it work sigh , hope ya can get back to me:)
Great video, Jay, I really appreciate you and what you’re doing for Resolve users - PROPS! I’m looking to see if it’s possible to encode the clip markers when exporting to MP4 video, say for chapter points in a video player?
Just found it! While in the Editing window, the Edit Index click on the three little dots in the upper right hand corner and then check show markers. There are lots of other features that can get turned on there too. Yay!
Yes, on the commands and of the keyboard customization search for a color. In the search bar if you type apricot you should see in the list "set clip color" use that to set the key
For some reason, when I assign something like "Shift+F5" to assign a clip color, it wont work. The moment I remove the modifier key from the keyboard shortcut, it works. So strange.
I am determined to get as much fusion and resolve knowledge under my belt as I can during this lockdown and every time I get stuck, you seem to have a video to help me out. Ctrl + Alt + 3 = BLUE
Ctrl + Alt + 4 = LIME
Ctrl + Alt + 5 = BROWN
Ctrl + Alt + 6 = TAN
Ctrl + Alt + 7 = APRICOT
Ctrl + Alt + 8 = NAVY
Ctrl + Alt + 9 = PURPLE
Thank you again JayAreTV
Thanks for the information. Concise, detailed, and taught me a lot!
You just got a new sub! The difference and use of flags and markers was something I needed, as the keyboard customization, thanks so much!
i learn so much from you, thank you so much! you are my go to guy when I need to learn Da vinci. You teach so well! Thank you again
Can the default colors be changed (like we can in PPro)? I couldn't find a way to do that.
A great video on a feature that is hardly discussed in the videos on Davinci 17.
I have to say, I'm glad I subscribed to your channel quite a while back. this is great. you dont actually tell us how to set colors to specific keys. You just showed us that you already did it

This is the exact thing I've been waiting for resolve to implement.

GREAT tip on adding the marker to the clip! Thanks!! (PP for years, just learning Resolve 16 and I LOVE IT!!)
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT video tuition - as are all your amazing videos! Thank you so much,I have learned so much from your videos.
You deserve much more subs, thank you so much.
Such a smooth tutorial - thanks!

Beautiful - Thanks for this! Such a great channel. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, and if you don’t know, you can also drag a marker, holding alt key and create a duration marker
Oh man you are a legend! That is such a great tip. Thank you
Nice video! Is there a way to choose default colors to use? like we can choose colors for markers and flags in the view tab...

Nice video as always jay :)
Thanks!
at 8:45 i got exactly what i came for. much love bro.
Thanks Jay, great tip for organizing clips. Much appreciated!
thank you so much for the video because it was time well spent. i ve learned something new
Hi, Jay. It was very interesting listening to you. Tell me, please, is there any way to see the list of markers I made like in Adobe Premiere?
My Davinci Keyboard Preference panel looked different. Took me a while to find SET CLIP COLOR. For me it was under Application (left column), open Application (right column), select Mark, then scroll down on the most right options to find SET CLIP COLOR

Dude, this is good stuff, man!
yoooooo you were quickly changing colors of clips, must have a shortcut set up. how did you not share that ?
how to select multiple markers on different files (markers not above timeline) and move them?
Thanks man, great vídeo
I’m trying to highlight a part of the image with box and text or better a speech bubble, is there an easy way to do that?
8:26 - you can set markers on the timeline and you can set markers on the clip itself
thank you.

I have a video on the subject already. 👉 ruclips.net/video/XORpYD_w5SQ/видео.html

I think they will soon also. Audio is in the stand alone and people on the forums have asked for it also.
Hello, do you know if there's an option to open a window where you can see all the markers like in Media Composer?
Great video - thanks!
Great explanation👍
Can i lock the markers? when i delete gap - my markers is moving too.
Is there anyway to change the default clip color?
Hey Jay, is there a way to save old effects I’ve made such as a screen pumps that I can just drag on.
Great content! Thanks!
DaVinci Resolve ignores the markers of imported WAVE files. Is there a setting to fix this or a workaround?
Hello, one question I have been using Davinci Resolve for a couple of days now...Why if i set a marker time or duration of 1:25 automatically changes to 2:00

thanks a lot, now I know markers stay on clips, it didn't made sense on the timeline because both are quite simmilar.
Great! Thank you very much!
How do i select clips with the same "clip color" in the Color page?
Is there a way to see them if they're tagged a color through LIST view instead of THUMBNAILS? I use list way more than thumbnails.
top left corner
Great video, Jay, I really appreciate you and what you’re doing for Resolve users - PROPS!
I’m looking to see if it’s possible to encode the clip markers when exporting to MP4 video, say for chapter points in a video player?
Does anyone know if you can look at markers in a panel as list view? I used that in Premiere all the time and am missing that in Resolve.
Just found it! While in the Editing window, the Edit Index click on the three little dots in the upper right hand corner and then check show markers. There are lots of other features that can get turned on there too. Yay!
Hey I dont see a way to set keyboard shortcuts to change clip color in Resolve 17! is there a way?
Yes, on the commands and of the keyboard customization search for a color. In the search bar if you type apricot you should see in the list "set clip color" use that to set the key
Great, thanks!
'M' or 'G' only puts a flag on the element, can't make it place a flag on the timeline WTFF
Thank you!
For some reason, when I assign something like "Shift+F5" to assign a clip color, it wont work. The moment I remove the modifier key from the keyboard shortcut, it works. So strange.
Nice!
I don't even know what that is but I like you a lot lol. You have such s nice voice 😅 why don't you pursue a career in radio?
INCEPTION :o you are editing your self editing yourself - we have to go deeper!!
Thanks You
the way I ignored these like I'll never need them... 🤡🤡
In the description: *a5300* > *a6300*

Fantastic video thanks!
