Genuinely happens too often at family gatherings. Like five households think "oh I'll just bring some bread" and then everyone is left with five loaves of bread and one bag of shredded lettuce.

It was probably all three of the main singers (Andrew Dismukes, James Austin Johnson, and Nate Bargatze), since they originally came from that region or thereabouts (Andrew is from Texas, but who's to say they don't have lake beaches there? I know JAJ and the host are from Tennessee, so...).

@@canaisyoung3601 Texas makes sense. All of the lakes are man made. I only went to one, possum kingdom , but it was smelly brown water. Had hydrilla or something in it. Kind of nasty. Florida lake beaches can be fairly nice or fairly similar. Some are spring fed, ice cold and sandy. Others a sandy clear , same temp as bath water. Then there are lakes that seem more like large swamps.

As someone currently living in Tennessee, I can confirm this as an accurate depiction of lake beaches.
Both Kentucky Lake (LBL) and now Percy Priest (even worse) Beautiful from a distance, just gorgeous. But up close...whew!! 🐟
We only have one natural lake too lol. Every other lake is man made in TN. But yeah this is accurate for TN and IL 😂
Growing up in Memphis, we used to go to a lake occasionally (Mckellar?) We were told not to touch the bottom because it was full of cow poop, so we had to jump in and tread water. Of course we'd inevitably have to get out and touch the bottom. It was some kind of sticky icky brown stuff that we had to scrape off, so maybe it really was cow poop? And then there's the stories of "balls" of cottonmouth snakes attacking and killing water skiers.
James Austin Johnson is from Nashville and Nate specifically is from Old Hickory. Between OH Lake and the Percy Priest, I'm relatively sure 99% of this sketch came from them talking about their experiences at the two.

On his podcast Nate said he didn't want to do this because he'd have to sing and he's not a singer, but he did pretty well singing!

As a teen from Oklahoma who moved to colorado I can confirm this is my daily life but you forgot the tire swing 🛞😆

there's no tire swings at my lake beaches but they are covered in rocks, so you can't even walk around barefoot
And someone's dumb friend or uncle trying the tire swing and the rope breaks and he falls square on his back onto a rock and is in pain the whole rest of the trip but won't go see a doctor until the beer is all gone.
Tire swings are for the "Fancy Lake Beach"!

I saw him in Nashville at Please Don’t Destroy and for one his Zanies shows and when he came out he was basically ad-libbing similar lines to what is in the song. When I saw the sketch, I was like wow! He turned it into a sketch! James is awesome.

Michael Longfellow is Southwestern (Arizona) and Molly Kearney is Midwestern (Ohio). But everyone else is Southern: JAJ is from Tennessee, Heidi Gardner is from Missouri, Marcello Hernandez is from Florida, and Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker are from Texas.

Growing up in SC and GA I can vouch for the accuracy of this sketch. Especially the disgusting Water I never would even sit by, nevermind get in.... and the bad, dirty kid running around with no one claiming him. You always have to say "Watch out Sweetie" or "Don't do that, you'll get hurt" to save the kid when he was running around near you. 😅 Like dude, WHERE ARE YOUR PARENTS???😂🤣

James Austin Johnson's from Tennessee too. Andrew Dismukes and Devon Walker are from Texas and Heidi Gardner is from Missouri, but I'm pretty sure lake beaches exist in those states too. I don't know about Arizona (which is where Michael Longfellow is from). Florida (where Marcello Hernandez is from) has swamps, so they kinda count? Maybe Ohio (where Molly Kearney is from) has them, but not as much as Tennessee.

How did they not use this as the Cold Open??? Best piece in years.
The cold opens are usually reserved for political/world events (and that includes any somber performance or message following a tragedy, like the recent one with Pete Davidson), though there are times where it's something a bit more non-political, like backstage sketches (which they haven't had in some time), that sketch about the different people you see on a spring day in Central Park on the Ana de Armas episode, and most Christmas sketches where the cast sing a Christmas song. But hey, a music video sketch opening the episode would be a great change of pace. If "In Living Color" and "MADtv" can do it, then SNL can too.
They usually use pretapes like this between two sketches so that while it's going out OTA during the live show they're taking down one set and putting up another.
