Kang's story is being told in reverse. First, is his death (He who remains), then his fall (Kang the Conqueror), the setting up of TVA (Loki season 2), the multiversal war (Kang Dynasty), his rise to power (Secret Wars) and his beginnings (Fantastic 4)
Exactly. Did you see the nod to how the timeline will look like by the time he who remains has taken control in antman 3? It almost seems like the conqueror was successful at killing all his variants or something like that.
I have such a deeper appreciation for these show writers/producers now. To envelop all of this stuff into a show where minute details kinda becomes blissful *white noise* as your watching it in real time is pure passion and artistry.
Lol the writers and producers didn’t intentionally create any of these metaphorical connections, it’s a product of this channel and others creating them. Congrats on a successful launch day, Erik!!! Long-form film analyses have always been my RUclips go-to's, so I've been eagerly waiting for this to come out and I can't wait to see what else you'll be cooking up! You mentioned the Kintsugi motif in the citadel scenes and the huge crack is framed between Slyvie and Loki when HWR asks them to take over the TVA. This also happens again when Slyvie is holding her blade to Loki's throat. They cleverly blocked the two of them so that Loki looks like he is inching closer and closer past the crack, as if he's trying to break through what's dividing them. Now, this next part may just be pareidolia messing with my mind, but earlier on in the episode, before they "cross the threshold", there's a lot of shots of Loki and Slyvie where the Kintsugi lines almost look like strings that are pulling or puppeting them, as if directed by He Who Remains and the Sacred Timeline.

Did you notice on the Haven Hills billboard that all of the houses were on super tall stilts? It implies that Cat 8 Hurricanes (off the charts storms) are completely expected now, or at least they know intense coastal erosion requires tall stilts for better foundations. When the billboard is ripped away we see a lot of the houses still together on their stilts but the coastal soil has been ripped out underneath them causing the houses to tilt and fall - many still intact. Great job @DeepDiveNR !
Love the Deep Dives! Such an engaging and wonderful format… One idea that they gave me is that Marvel is ultimately all about the characters as the connective tissue between installments and these first two dives both gave really in depth looks at particular characters through Wanda and Loki just on the nature of these shows centering them… what I would love to see is a Deep Dive on an individual character rather than a movie/show since so many great characters often find themselves secondary in these projects, but exploring the pieces of their story collectively could be great! (My first vote is for one James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes!)
I’ve been a NewRockstars viewer since shortly before Infinity War. Voss is Boss. The reason I like NR more than any other channel is that they only focus on the positives and theory. Too many channels out there focus on the underwhelming areas of the recent shows/movies, which is just a bummer. So thanks for always focusing on what viewer want to dwell on.
41.01 He showed the Loki's the script to come but there wasn't much left. When he says "we just crossed the threshold" I took this as him meaning it literally. The citadel transition from the void (At the end of time) to the timeline (The present). Kang tests reality by dropping something but he can't see what will happen to is. This is the first time he hasn't known what would happen and he seems to be relived yet concerned. It's no longer his burden to bare but it's likely to be his end. Just my take.
Great Deep Dive of my favorite Disney Plus Marvel series! Loved the new insight! The Hurricane I noticed on the path projection map over the Gulf on the tv behind Loki, lists it first as a Cat 12! Insane!🤯
I love your videos on every channel. Also I can tell the 3rd timekeeper is the same voice he used for Immortus in Quantamania. I wonder if the other 2 line up with Ramma Tut and Centurion? Would love to see that in a future video. Maybe next time we see the other Kangs
"I’ve been where you are. I’ve felt what you feel. Don’t ask me how I know. All I know is I don’t wanna hurt you. I don’t want a throne. I just want you to be okay." -Loki
Whether intentional or not, nearly every Marvel project centers around family. A lot of people joke, derisively or fondly, about “daddy issues” in the first couple of phases. But there are sibling rivalries and sibling love, mother-daughter conflict and support, extended family, community as family, examinations of blood family and found family…at the center is mostly one thing: love. Love fulfilled, love betrayed, the search for love, love found, a recognition that love was there even if we didn’t see it. If Kang’s weakness is love, then in a way the entire MCU has been building the perfect army to defeat him. It was Kevin Feige All Along. 😮
You still missed that He Who Remains places the time pad out on display, with Sylvie facing him. Setting up the final sequence in a way where Loki proper never sees it happening. He knew the sequence, and the joy with which he sets the pad down shows the climax of the plan he set forth
That's a good idea, that pruned folks appear on the upcoming Battleworld. They aren't so much "mistakes" but really actually special strong folks who can change the world with their existence, so Kang needs these metaphorically important folks to fight another group of metaphorical Kangs.
You’re still killing me with this linear thinking… the MCU didn’t “suddenly become” a multiverse. Kang was keeping the sacred timeline svelte, but once he wasn’t, it began to branch out at every possible moment of every point from start to finish. All of time, not just from 2023 (or whatever) onward. Thus from our perspective, it was ALWAYS a multiverse.
Thank you so much for the work you do! I would love to see some scary/thriller/horror breakdowns & deep dives. Like the Haunting of Hill House or something :)
Could the 4th broken statue represent Kang in Quantumania? There are 3 main Kangs, plus the banished conqueror, a symbol of a scuffle between them with one losing
God damn man... Just when I think I've grasped what you've explained in the past, you go full inception on me and go 5 layers deeper. Love it love it love it!
Wow! Just when I thought there was nothing more to learn from the Loki series, Erik Voss proves me wrong. What a pleasure to watch the master in action. Good luck with The Deep Dive. It will be fabulous!
This is an awesome video. The love part at the end is especially important. That’ll be the key to preventing Iron Lad from becoming Kang the Conqueror. Love for Cassie Lang. That’s also how they will tear down the Kang Dynasty in Secret Wars. The Heroes love each other, so they are are actually capable of fighting together. If we know anything about Kang Variants, it’s that they absolutely hate each other. And that is why they will lose. Could you do a video on how Secret Wars could get split into two movies? Cause here’s what I think it’s gonna be: Avengers Kang Dynasty, where the 616 heroes try and fail to protect their universe; Avengers Forever, where they gather heroes across the Multiverse to take on the Dynasty, but it just ends with the Multiverse’s destruction. How that will happen is that Wanda will come in to fight the Kang Variants herself (I’m picturing her intro to the battle will be a callback to Thor’s arrival in Wakanda, the theme music playing, and Stephen shouting “You are so screwed now!”). But that fight will cause incursions in every universe. And that’s how Wanda will fulfill her destiny. Avengers Secret Wars, where Doctor Doom creates Battleworld, Kang tries to conquer it, Mr. Fantastic will figure out how to restore the Multiverse (but it becomes the Eternalverse so there are no more incursions), the heroes have to find each other and unite to face Kang. You could also make a video on something I realized earlier today: Ant-Man now has the role that Tony Stark did in the Infinity Saga. He’s the guy that knows what’s coming, and will do everything he can to prepare. He’ll be more stable though. He will probably be the one to convince Sam to rebuild the Avengers in New World Order. Scott will likely be one of the casualties of Secret Wars.
Thank you Erik, great job. As a Navy Vet myself, you got me in the feels there. Enjoy your Dad if you still have him Enjoy your children when you do. You'll be the ghost of their future.
Just me or do the three voices of the Time Keepers mirror the three voices of the top Kang variants we see in Quantumania? One robotic, one kind of muffled very serious monotone voice, and one raspy voice
This was amazing - makes me want to go back and watch Loki season 1 again! Well done Erik. Marvel shows and movies are so rich with info, your deep dives and breakdowns really help with fleshing things out and building excitement. Keep it up! 👏🏾😄
I wonder if He Who Remains knows he may have built a Council of Loki? I know it's far fetched but the Void is full of Loki's that needs inspiration. These two )Loki and Sylvie) show them what they can accomplish if they work together. Loki also said they are stronger than they think.
Hi Erik, I think for the breakdown of Loki's song to Sylvie in the train you have the roles reversed. Loki is presenting Sylvie as the one who travels the glaciers and Loki is the maiden singing out and calling her home. At least that's how it seems to me
Erik, you said when introducing the sponsor for this video that you couldn’t believe that anyone would want to watch this. Let me assure you that Easter eggs are always cool and NR is the best in the biz for providing them (others SCeem to do them faster, but NR is more accurate, I feel); but I love context, and these deep dives hit the spot! Thanks for what you do!
What a great watch! Tbh I didnt think I would sit thru the whole video. But it is so engaging that before I knew it the video has come to end. Left me wanting more! Great work! I'll Definitely be watching for future videos!
What a great video essay. Lots of dichotomy - control/chaos (improvisation); self-love/love for others; dancer/non-dancers; failure/success; memory/obscurity; planned/unplanned. What a great exercise in discussion and discernment. I agree that connection could be the ultimate goal. Looking forward to future links.
Ok. I've gone back several times and listened carefully. When Loki asks Mobius if he's ever ridden a jet-ski, IMMEDIATLY after Mobius says "no" you hear in the background, very low, what I can only describe as the familiar sound of a sitcom audience laugh track. You can hear this at 13:29,30 of this video. You may have to use earbuds. But you'll hear it. Not sure if his means anything because I haven't gone back to the episode yet to see if there is something going on in the dining hall that would have made the people there laugh. Just thought I'd point it out to you. Thanks for this newest channel. I appreciate the time it takes to do the things you are doing. Peace OOT! :)
Number one this is an amazing Channel love the breakdowns. One thing that caught my eye and I think it was because you mentioned it earlier in the video. And maybe you have mentioned in the past. I find it very interesting that when they get on the elevator to go to his office in the void he stands with both Loki's behind him. Whereas moebius would never let them behind him because he stabs them in the back, he who remains knows the future and does not fear them behind him. Great work keep it up!
Wonderful synopsis! There is one thing that I'm convinced of still is: The moment Wanda turning into the Scarlet Witch may have had a lot to do with the moment Kang was confused when talking to the Lokis. I was thinking that the pinkish purple skies looked like the background at Kangs Crib...thunder and all. Only because WandaVision was the 1st of Phase 4 and Loki wasn't too long after that. Just thought on it but your view is rock solid.
this is so good 🦄 thanks for sharing your insights, and for highlighting the efforts of all the people making the art. thank you, 'professor voss', these first two videos are a treat!
Something I just came to realise is that, in the quantumania trailer it plays the Elton John’s goodbye yellow brick road, and while when played in an epic version it obviously slaps, it also makes me think of it as a metaphor as escaping the linear road that he who remains describes paving for Loki, with all the metaphors of wizard of oz and stuff, with all the kangs escaping and starting this multiversal war, idk what I’m really talking about but hopefully you know what I’m talking about

I'm completely floored by the attention to detail here! Voss you crazy bastard, you've done it again!!!🔥🔥🔥
Loki was such a great show
Great Deep Dive of my favorite Disney Plus Marvel series! Loved the new insight! The Hurricane I noticed on the path projection map over the Gulf on the tv behind Loki, lists it first as a Cat 12! Insane!🤯
Johnathan Major's performance as He Who Remains is so much better after seeing him as The Conquerer. Great actor.
I just want you to be okay." -Loki
i would say that her sitting in front of kangs mouth in court is a good visualisation of her talking for the time gods/kang.
This was damn good & very well orchestrated. Erik’s solo project is what I enjoy. More please!
Happy to be here
Whether intentional or not, nearly every Marvel project centers around family.
Oh this is GOOD. Excellent work putting this altogether, and narrating in total confidence of your research.
Simultaneously therre always and never had been a multiverse since all these events happen outside of time.
Thank you so much for the work you do! I would love to see some scary/thriller/horror breakdowns & deep dives. Like the Haunting of Hill House or something :)
I love the passion from him and his crew. He is one the reasons I am so passionate about the MCU as I feel like I am part of a (Voss ) community.
Could the 4th broken statue represent Kang in Quantumania? There are 3 main Kangs, plus the banished conqueror, a symbol of a scuffle between them with one losing
Interesting.....
WELL DONE
I know this video will be good and I haven’t even watched it
God damn man... Just when I think I've grasped what you've explained in the past, you go full inception on me and go 5 layers deeper.
Love it love it love it!
I think when Sylvie asks him “Aren’t you going to beg for your life?” He Who remains says “ I…could.. could “
These deep dive videos have really made me appreciate these series so much more! Really loving the videos on this channel so far! Keep it up!
Hi Erik, I think for the breakdown of Loki's song to Sylvie in the train you have the roles reversed. Loki is presenting Sylvie as the one who travels the glaciers and Loki is the maiden singing out and calling her home. At least that's how it seems to me
Great! Congrats!
Why are literally all of the sponsors something I would love to have
Erik, you said when introducing the sponsor for this video that you couldn’t believe that anyone would want to watch this. Let me assure you that Easter eggs are always cool and NR is the best in the biz for providing them (others SCeem to do them faster, but NR is more accurate, I feel); but I love context, and these deep dives hit the spot! Thanks for what you do!
Such a great video ! I really liked He Who Remains, this character is so deep and so well portrayed by Jonathan Majors
I love this series. Can't wait for season 2!
I never get tired of these deep dives for the MCU.
Mr. Voss you sir are a national treasure thank you for all you do.
Peace OOT! :)
Jesus Christ, Erik. This is the reason why I love watching you! What a genius! 👊🏻
… Loki’s are the one being that always survives the chaos. Wow.
I can’t wait for more content!! This is nerding out to the 10000th degree, and I’m here for it. Thank you! This is a lot of work & we appreciate it.
Something I just came to realise is that, in the quantumania trailer it plays the Elton John’s goodbye yellow brick road, and while when played in an epic version it obviously slaps, it also makes me think of it as a metaphor as escaping the linear road that he who remains describes paving for Loki, with all the metaphors of wizard of oz and stuff, with all the kangs escaping and starting this multiversal war, idk what I’m really talking about but hopefully you know what I’m talking about
Loki is hands down my favorite Disney+ show. Just rewatched it and I think I might restart it tonight if I can’t find anything else to watch.
