How is it possible to comment on The Fight Club in the limited space of RUclips? Ok I’ll try but I’ll focus on the cinema experience element.
So I was fortunate enough to watch this on the original release 25 years ago and then made a special point of going to see this Anniversary release. And the main take away from the two experiences is this….the conversation on exiting the screening was exactly the same 25 years later. The emotions, the opinions, the confusion and theories were all mirrored to that original audience. You could hear and feel the Love/Hate divide in those few minutes of roaming the cinema and into the streets as people exited.
I think this stands testament to the impact of the films legacy for those who have seen it originally and the future of the film for a new audience who will take the experience forward continuing the conversation.
I like your First Time view opinions on this one, not necessarily because i agree or disagree with the theories you have but because of their absolute validity of discussion in the context of how this movie is made. All of your views and discussion points are what makes the film so epic, in that so much is down to interpretation of the individual.
I hope that you do choose to watch it a second time, having a bit of pre awareness will certainly help you to find more depth and subtlety in the split personality.
Personally, for me the film only makes sense for the split character based upon Maria being a real character and not one of Edward Nortons split characters. And again, this isn’t to say my viewpoint is what the writer had in store, but it’s the interpretations that helps me find sense in the film.
