This being the first big speech since Amy and Rory left means he had so much pain and anguish to unleash, and Matt Smith absolutely killed it. I watch reaction of this episode almost exclusively for the speech
Talking about Amy and Clara being practically groomed by The Doctor... Ya'll forgot about River! One of the first people to hold baby River was The Doctor and her parents were The Doctor's best friends...
This was Matt's speech. Like how every doctor had a moment that REALLY defined their iteration of the Doctor. It showed how he viewed his character, especially where he is with his story: post Ponds with this strange, impossible girl
This chapter is in my top 5 favorites. From the music, to the Star Wars atmosphere, and the chemistry that explodes between the Doctor and Clara, it is extraordinary. But what I like the most is the Doctor's monologue facing the creature. It's my favorite, it takes your breath away. And to think that the actor who plays this chattering doctor is the same one who plays Daemon Targaryen.
There was a virtual choir that formed during the covid lockdown that did a cover of the long song from this episode. It was formed of doctor who fans and was one of the best things I saw during that time
Christopher Eccleston's Doctor went back with Rose to see her parents' past because she wanted to. He didn't want to. And he didn't imprint on her or vice versa. I don't know where that is coming from. Mickey was drawn to adult Rose, but I don't think he imprinted on her, per se.
During the episode, child-Mickey runs up to Rose and hugs onto her, and Rose later tells the Doctor, “I think I just imprinted on Mickey like a mother chicken.” I think that’s where they got that from.
She's also the daughter of Aled Jones, who had a successful career as a boy soprano in the 1980s, selling loads of records, including a UK Top Ten hit with "Walking in the Air".
“I have seen things you wouldn’t believe; I have lost things you will never understand!” The Doctor in a nutshell. Steven Moffat has a way of writing lines like this.
It's only now looking back on this episode, that I realise how important Clara's leaf was... Hence why Akhaten/Grandfather accepted that leaf I think? (Obviously not going to say as to why that is lol)
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series gets a shout out in this story. In HHGTTG, the Hooloovoo were described as, "a super-intelligent shade of the colour blue. The Doctor mentions not having been to the solar system in which the story is set since he was traveling with his granddaughter, Susan, marking that visit as a story from the First Doctor. Smith even seems to channel Hartnell's performance when answering Clara's question of, "You've been here before?", in that Smith's, "Yes, yes, yes," was very reminiscent of the First Doctor. This is the second direct reference to past first Doctor stories since Planet of the Ood, which was in the same solar system as the Sense-Sphere, setting of the story The Sensorites. I'm so very glad Steven decided to drop the whole, "Clara is an experiment of the Doctor's to breed the perfect comapnion," aspect of Clara's story. It was confusing enough without making it creepy as hell and completely against anything the Doctor would even consider. Well, maybe Twelve would, but definitely not Eleven.
Desperately ignoring The logical part of my brain say on that the leaf would ruin the economy if it could truly hold hypothetical timelines of emotions. 😂 I do love the docs peach though matt Smith was Soo good at pulling up the mask of goofball to show the ancient thing underneath.
I don't think anybody was ever supposed to take the characters on _Married with Children_ as anything but an over-the-top satire or take them or Archie Bunker as role models.
This episode. The Parasitic Sun is the Viewing Audience, Matt Smith's speech is about the history of the Doctor and the show Doctor Who,, Clara's speech is about all the stories yet to be told in Doctor Who and how we should view them.
I don't think they are different timelines; it's rare for us to see a different timeline (like in "Turn Left") and the Doctor doesn't just easily flit into them.
The Doctor's speech to the grandfather god was one of my favorite Doctor WHO moments. Right up there with things you haven't seen yet. OMG, don't compare Doctor WHO to Twilight, that's like comparing Diamonds to Zirconia. It is way weirder for old vamps to groom teens cause the Doctor has no romantic intentions. My book I'm working on has lots of immortal characters and I've got to find a way to thread the needle for any relations not to be creepy. As for the discussions I agree with you both so much. I always hated the Confederate traitor's statues being in places of prominence. I was so happy when they came down, started moving to museums. It felt like the world was moving on, arcing toward justice. Needless to say, the last few years have been a rough realization that we still have a long way to go to reach equality, or justice, or even freedom for everyone. But we don't fight for these things because they are easy, we do so because we must. Because evil cannot be allowed to succeed. I remember the Cosby show growing up, and while its cultural impact cannot be stolen, I hate that the creator tarnished it from behind the scenes. I have real trouble separating art from artists. Always have. A band I liked growing up had a bass player use a racial slur on stage in my home town and I never cared about that group again, never listened to the albums again. I remember enjoying the Cosby Show, enjoying certain songs and artists, and it is hard to go back to it again now, knowing what I know. That said, I do have a sense of humor and I still laugh at old sitcoms who were so terribly wrong, even then, because to me it only gets tainted when the creators turn out to actually be horrible people. As far as I know none of the Wayans were revealed to be closet predators. I sure hope none ever partied with Diddy.
First, the Doctor met Clara Oswin Oswald in the future when she was a Dalek. Then he met her in the past as a Governess where she died and he saw her tombstone with her full name and realized she was the Dalek. So, he came to the present to figure out who this "Impossible Girl" actually is. One timeline in the same universe, not multiple timelines or multiple universes. HTH...
I'm probably gonna take some heat for this comment, but I have to say it. That "vibe" has a whole lot more to do with Steven Moffat than with the Doctor. Think about the episodes he wrote before he was showrunner. The Empty Child/Doctor Dances: Young girl turns out to be older than she looks and is a mother, not a sister. The Girl in the Fireplace: young girl grows up very quickly and falls in love with her imaginary friend (sound familiar?) Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead: young mysterious girl turns out to be a 100 y/o computer and also a little girl who will never age... Don't see the pattern? Check out the first scene in one of Moffat's first shows, Chalk. Tarantino's foot fetish is a lot less creepy.
@@A7bz3LOT4AL0B crazy take?! it’s decent at worst. Bold at the best. Not the best episode ever but a pretty apt start to season 7B. I can think of plenty of other genuinely worse eps, even in this season 7.

i actually loved this episode. seeing him recount and telling a story the the parasite got me kinda emotional

That speech man, that speech.

When the doctor was doing that speech Matt Smith was crying real tears fun fact. I think that's amazing personally
My absolute FAVORITE of all the Doctor speeches!
The song gives me goosebumps every time.
There was a virtual choir that formed during the covid lockdown that did a cover of the long song from this episode. It was formed of doctor who fans and was one of the best things I saw during that time
The speech and the song get me everytime ❤
Damn Clara's dad pull off that salt and pepper widow look.
The Proms version of the Long Song, sung by the girl who played Shireen Baratheon, is pretty cool.
The who is Clara and who were the previous Claras arc is a very fun one and I think you’ll enjoy this season

@@emilyckohl Yes, probably. I don't think that really changed what already was in the future, though.
One of the best dw speeches
Top 5 for sure
@samwell54 nothing compared to the zygon speech 😉
i honestly like his farewell speech personally
Fun fact syntell that Clara's mum died the same date as the auton attack in the episode Rose so she most likely died to a Auton
Plastic allergy?
Emilia Jones, who played the Queen of Years has gone on to do lots of things. Locke and Key, Coda, the remake of The Running Man.
She's also the daughter of Aled Jones, who had a successful career as a boy soprano in the 1980s, selling loads of records, including a UK Top Ten hit with "Walking in the Air".
I'd say Clara reminds him of Victorian Clara, who died, and Oswin, who died.
“I have seen things you wouldn’t believe;
I have lost things you will never understand!”
The Doctor in a nutshell. Steven Moffat has a way of writing lines like this.

Getting closer to one of my favourite episodes
Sanford and Son and All In The Family/Archie Bunker were based on British shows (Steptoe and Son and Till Death us Do Part).
This ep is so emotional top 10 for sure.
3:12 wolf with tea.
The episode is fine but that speach is a top 5 Doctor Who moment for me

Aside from the 50th anniversary special, this is the only story from this run of episodes that I think is truly great.
The space bike ride reminds me of "Flash Gordon".
Where does Clara come from? So many layers to see.
I don't think they are different timelines; it's rare for us to see a different timeline (like in "Turn Left") and the Doctor doesn't just easily flit into them.
Good point about taking down statues not meaning forgetting.
Omg one of the doctors best speeches. Incredible performance by Matt Smith

There is plenty going on now that people are objecting to now, which is also the case for the past.

dumb, corny episode. worst season arc of matt smith's run..... cant wait for this season to be done. next season (and the specials) are bangers.
I find the best way to think of this set of episodes, is with episode 6 x 7 you witnessed Infinity War, you are working your way up to Endgame.
