Tennant/the 10th did indeed not know who River is. And that WAS the day she died. So she was correct in that assessment.
River says something like "there will come a day where he has no idea who I am, and I think it'll kill me" and yes that time was with David Tennant, and that's also when she died. It's a morbid call back. Her feeling like she'd die is the day she actually does. It's a sad romance story really
Well, she's saved into the "Matrix" with some cool people and Dr. Moon might be able to help if The Doctor can figure out a body for her.
The older version of Mark Sheppard's character is played by his actual father, W. Morgan Sheppard.
Yeah the father-son duo did this litttle trick which is to say playing older and younger versions of the same character several times.
W.Morgan has since died.
He also voiced I.Cheese in Escape from Monkey Island. Dunno why I know that

Same difference. Oops that was the wrong time.
River knew the doctor the most just when she sacrificed herself in silence in the library she said "you are young, younger than I've ever seen you" (or something like that). The day she knew him the most, he didn't recognize her. So she is right, they are traveling in opposite directions, kind of, there is a lot of liberties regarding River and the doctor's timeline (we've seen it and you will see some more) but in general terms she is right. So you can infer that the older the doctor gets the younger River is and some of the times you can see this when she checks (or if she checks) the diary during the series. In silence in the library it was full, beat up and dirty for example. It's a really cool detail

Some time in the future when you are done with River's story arc I would recommend watching River's storyline in the order that she encounters the Doctor to see the whole story unfold from her perspective/time line.

This also takes place in the USA because 1) DW was at the height of its American popularity at this time and 2) BBC America was giving them some money to produce this season.
Not necessarily it was starting to get big in america during Tom Baker's time in the mid 70's.

The actor playing Nixon, Stuart Milligan, also played the President of the US in Wonder Woman 1984. He's an American actor living in Britain, so whenever you see him in a movie, it's a sure sign that it was shot in the UK.

That is indeed Chukwudi Iwuji playing that Secret Service Agent, he is indeed Clemson Murn from Peacemaker, and The High Evolutionary from GOTG Volume 3.
The menacing figures in black suits are meant to look like the wailing figure from the painting referred as The Scream, but they also remind me of Slenderman the internet urban legend/creepypasta which predated the debut of these figures.

So, now that youve finally seen them, we can reveal that these aliens have been popping up *entirely* throughout Season 5! You hear the lottle sound queue when theyre on screen. In the episode with the space whale thing theres a scene where amy spins around to the screen really fast and you see what looks like just a person going by, but its one of these. In the Pandoirca episode, theres one hiding right behind a statue near the Pandorica in the museum scene. Theres plenty of other examples too but those are the ones that blew my mind when i went back and watched the episodes. The idea is that youre meant to have forgotten seeing them too
There were weird moments in the lodger which is interesting considering the ship being the same type.
@@David-cg1lh Yeah I'm pretty sure that was intentional. It's been so long since I watched a not cut down version of it, but I seem to remember the hologram saying that it wasn't it's ship, that it had repurposed it.
@@monkeyman767 wasn't it just the Onboard A. I? Anyway I meant moments where am alone on the tardis looks of or shouts in a way that's slightly odd to how she's talking to the doctor. Nothing conclusive and not likely intentional but It fits headcanon

Ten was the last Doctor River met, but he was the first to meet her. We are following her timeline backwards and the Doctor's forwards.

It took a while for most of the audience to recognize the room River broke into around 24:20 as looking very similar to the non-existent upper floor of Craig's house from The Lodger, so well done guys for making the connection quicker than the rest of, though you've had less time between episodes than we did at the time.
9:33 I believe this shot took 20+ takes because Alex Kingston couldn't help but laugh. If you look carefully, you can see Matt Smiths pure irritation on his face right after the slap when he looks back at her. Bonus, you can also see Alex Kingston trying to hold herself together
Mark Sheppard is the guy from Supernatural, where he played Crowley. The old man in this episode is his actual Father W. Morgan Sheppard. In an interview Mark did after this, he said that whenever he has needed someone to play his Father in a film or tv show, he gets his real Father as it is a good representation and easier to get him. Plus he is a great actor to.

EYO! Didn't expect to hear Face Off mentioned! I really enjoyed that show, watching them make the prosthetics and practical effects.
Now THAT is how you open a season! Steven Moffat is still on fire (and has been since the Pandorica Opens). He's already invented Weeping Angels and River Song. Now these new guys. His imagination is second to none. This episode and the whole of Season 6 are incredibly fertile ground people coming up with theories to try and figure out what the HELL is going on. It's really fun hearing your guy's theories! PS Watch the minisodes - there are quite a few this season and they are great.

Regarding why the doctor doesn’t know how to do stuff especially with the Tardis it’s quite simple he was one of the problem kids in school he didn’t pay attention and barely passed his classes plus he stole this Tardis and has never bothered to actually read the manual or work it properly this will get explored later
the "die hard" scene is a reference to The Great Escape a real WW2 mass escape turned into a classic hollywood movie

The design on the monsters of the episode are based on the painting "The Scream" (or at least I have always assumed so). The irony of that will become clear next episode.

It had pictures of this ep being filmed on the wall & a TARDIS mural behind the door where Matt comes out of. Broke my heart when it closed down & we saw it ripped apart inside in photos 💔 😭😭😭

There's an amazing place all over America. Literally we have a show on food network called Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives because you can 100% find each of these guaranteed in every state, almost every city, in the US 😂. But there's a great place in LA,KC, Branson, Eureka Springs, Pasadena, and I love 50s-style diners. I grew up loving the esthetic.
The Doctor and River do, in fact, meet in opposite directions, which is evident in the Tennant episodes you mentioned. The further along River goes, the less the Doctor knows her. If you recall, River died in the Library episode with Tennant, so it makes sense that, from her perspective, the final time she would have met the Doctor, he would have no idea who she was. However, from the Doctor's perspective, he had only just met her when she died, and he continues to learn more about her upon each meeting they have after that. So he understands more about her each time, as she watches him understand less each time.
It isn't literally opposite. River bounces all over time and space just like the Doctor. Their "timeline" is never truly linear.
@@lpeterson2336 Valid point. I guess what I mean to say is that their time streams flow in opposing directions. Despite their non-linearity, they always meet within the same opposing progressions of time, and never outside of them.
That was Ed's Diner in Cardiff Bay, not far from the film studios. It had an American 'outside' added. It was brilliant there and a favourite place to visit for Whovians. I went several times as Cardiff is a mecca for Doctor Who and Torchwood fans. Sadly it closed, during lockdown I think like so many other small businesses.

The silent landing thing was siftly retconned after. Those "boring levers" only dampen the sound inside the ship, not outside.
The Doctor has indeed drunk wine before - I drew up a list of every time he's consumed alcohol for my book, Lost in Time and Space. I guess after 1,100 years, the memory starts to go.
The recap before the title sequence wasn’t part of the original airing of this season and it’s not on the DVDs and Blu-ray releases, it was added for the BBC _America_ airing of the season, its the same monologue on every episode, and thus you can skip it.
Series 6 isn't as tight as Series 5, but it is one HELL of a ride.

Tennant did a mini-series of audio dramas featuring his Doctor and River Song.
The Library episode with Tennant was the 10th doctor first time meeting River Song, but it was Rever Songs (LAST?) time meeting the doctor before she died in the episode.! Think Tenet, one is going forward, the other is going backward in time.

Regarding the change in tone mentioned you have to take into account when DW first came back a lot of the early fans like me where like 5 when it came out and during this season I was a teenager the show for a lot of us progressed and became more mature as we did it’s why a lot of the people who stayed with it were people like me

It wasn't the maim trailer, but that teaser with the Doctors skeleton holding the sonic will forever be carved into my mind. That is the main thing I think of when I hear Doctor Who teaser trailers, as that image of the Doctor skelton arm stuck with me and perfectly teased the mystery of this series

They had a habit of speaking very roughly to certain characters of color: the one black secret service agent, Colonel Runaway, Martha when the Doctor was John Smith, “Mickey-Boy” at one point, Martha’s family being enslaved for the year that never happened, etc.

I remember watching this before release at the red carpet world premiere in the east Village in NYC. Also saw the season 5 at the NYC premiere too. Meeting Matt, Karen Arthur and Alex was legendary. I also got in trouble cause I accidentally leaked the synopsis to a mouthy forum and got read for filth by Moffat
That intro with Amy narrating is only on American releases of the show. I'd recommend looking up a version without just to save time, but it"s your call.
This season is an interesting ride.

To repeat something I wrote last week, I feel that Matt Smith is the Piers Brosnan of Doctor Who; his 1st Season was not only great but 1 of the best of the franchise (at least the Modern Era), but everything that came after wasn't as good in comparison.
@@jessetorres8738 agree to disagree. IMO Capaldi embodies the Doctor in another really interesting alien way. As much as I like Matt Smith, I found that fascinating.
It's weird that you feel you have to keep repeating it, almost as if you are trying to convince others, if it truly is the way you say it is, they will come to that on their own.
@@bereny45 For full runs, I'd say Tennant and Smith are tied for me for top Doctor. For a one-season stretch, it's Capaldi in his last series (though my most disliked two-parter episodes notwithstanding). Currently, Gatwa has so much potential to out do all of them, but they've not written an episode that really lets him truly shine. He needs to be able to tap into the emotions, not just cry, or kick something. We need one of those emotional speeches. One of those moments where that emotional trigger truly is the cause of The Doctor's actions.
The day is coming when he won’t know me at all and it might just kill me. (In Forest of the Dead he didn’t know her and she died!) 😢
