Again this is why you're my favorite watch channel. As a trained Industrial Designer since the mid 1970s, I love Bauhaus, Junghans as a brand and the Max Bill line of watches. Thank you for featuring Junghans... Bravo on another great video.
My wife is starting to catch on to my closeted watch fascination. She asked, what are you watching? I realized, that's exactly what I'm doing, watch-ing.
I have owned the Junghans Max Bill time-only automatic version (no chronograph) for about 6 years now, and it's still beautiful. Not the best in terms of performance or finishing of course (I only paid $430 USD for it second-hand), but the DESIGN is second to none. It is so crisp and pure ... I just love to stare at it. I especially love the way that number 4 is portrayed. Pure Bauhaus!
Why are you surprised with all the subs? I am not? Your content is amazing for those who want to learn about watches and its history. What makes you different from all the other channels is your story telling ability and awesome macro shots! Keep up the good work and we will all be here to celebrate your million sub!
Frankly this channel has allowed me to enjoy watches more than I would be able to in just about any other way, getting to see these incredible shots of watches I'd otherwise have no chance of seeing in the wild, let alone up close, has allowed me to lean into my fascination and really flesh out my hobby. Always excited to see a new upload from these guys
I really, really like this watch. It's a real contender for being a one watch collection contender. Well, one, plus a basic G-shock for rough and ready days.
Having a max bill myself, gotta agree. The acrylic case scratches relatively easily and then magnifies those scratches onto the watch face. I'll get a sapphire replacement eventually but it's not a watch for even intensive office work
@@SuperMrgentleman That’s what stopped me chasing this watch years ago. I need to wear watches that can take a hit every now and then. This watch won’t do it.

Just an amazingly well designed watch. I've got mine last year and it is simply stunning. Just the simplicity of it makes it something special. I've got the "normal" version without the day function and a polished case instead of the PVD case as shown. In my opinion, the polished version is the better version of the Max Bill Chronoscope range. It looks great both on a leather strap or on a Milanese strap. Hate the term but it really is a strap monster. The case back is a bit prone to scratching so a butterfly clasp is almost mandatory and compliments the watch as well.
I disagree regarding the straps. Imho only very simple straps fit this watch. Just plain leather straps without patterns or very visible seams. No nato etc. "A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."
You have to be mindful that when you choose sapphire crystal it can alter and compromise the dome effect. But as far as i know when sapphire breaks it shatters completely instead of getting a crack. So it is not invisible. It is relatively scratch proof. but you have to weight durability vs aesthetic. I love dome effect. It is gorgeous. IF sapphire alters the dome effect, I'll rather go for the aesthetics of this beautiful watch.
@@raypatson8775 It's always more likely to scratch the crystal than shatter it to the point of getting a crack. Nomos is considered more 'premium' but in terms of design, I feel they're a bit too overly simplistic often unless you get one with the weird complications like the Autobahn line or something else. Great channel, great content, but... for a person who has tinnitus, Your equalizer settings for voice (or microphone type, or editing, that cuts out middle frequencies and makes that voice "special"), make it a dreadful listening experience. Turning up the volume does not help either. And I'm not deaf enough to rely on subtitles only :) Talking about the subject - Junghans offers most of chronoscopes with sapphire glass option, but I have to admit, the plexiglass looks better on Chronoscope, than sapphire does, it's shape is more refined. My Chronoscope Chrono Bauhaus Limited edition comes with sapphire from the factory.
Really like this minimal industrial design, did consider one of these but ended up going for the Seiko Riki Watanabe SPB113J1 instead due to the enamel dial
I own a lot of watches from cheaper pieces from the likes of Hamilton to some expensive pieces like Omega and Rolex. I also own this exact watch. Guess which one gets the most attention by others when I wear it? Literally anytime I wear this, I get at least 1 person ask what it is because it is literally so eye-catching. I'd say it is easily the best looking dress watch in the market. I also own their Meister Pilot watch (look it up) which is my other favorite design for large watches. Junghans as a company punches way above its weight. You won't find such attention to detail in watches even 2x their prices.
There is more relationship between Apple and Junghans. The design pedigree. Max Bill, Dieter Rahms, Johannes Itten, Ottl Aicher and many more were teachers at the “Hochschule für Gestaltung - HfG - Ulm“ (University for Design Ulm) in the 1960s, which in some way was a successor of the Bauhaus University of the 1920s. This watch was designed at the time when Bill was a teacher at the HfG. Dieter Rahms is famous for the industrial design of Braun Hi-Fi and home appliance. Some of his designed are at the MoMA. He is a mayor influence to Jonathan Ive, the most important designer of Apple products.

This is a chronoscope watch for around 2K USD which is a really good deal. Similar Nomos would be twice the price. If it is your first watch, I'd recommend this over the Nomos. Again Nomos is a great brand but just a bit more pricy.
Anyone know the film camera model and name thats in all the videos? I'm sure this has been answered before but I couldn't find it.
Great channel, great content, but... for a person who has tinnitus, Your equalizer settings for voice (or microphone type, or editing, that cuts out middle frequencies and makes that voice "special"), make it a dreadful listening experience. Turning up the volume does not help either. And I'm not deaf enough to rely on subtitles only :)
Talking about the subject - Junghans offers most of chronoscopes with sapphire glass option, but I have to admit, the plexiglass looks better on Chronoscope, than sapphire does, it's shape is more refined. My Chronoscope Chrono Bauhaus Limited edition comes with sapphire from the factory.
oh cool, probably my favourite watch. So glad its getting some publicity here :)
Really like this minimal industrial design, did consider one of these but ended up going for the Seiko Riki Watanabe SPB113J1 instead due to the enamel dial
Those B-rolls are amazing
