I just stumbled across this video and fully expected u to have at least 100K subscribers so u can imagine how shocked I was when I saw u only had 1,7K Hopefully this blows up and gets u all the recognition u deserve !
So glad to see this. Awesome stuff, Lock! I was worried that we weren't going to see any other solo vids from you after that conversation with Mattress
This was so much more informative than I was expecting. I know how hard you work and how deep your research goes, but I had no clue there was THIS MUCH HISTORY behind the Mafia games. This is the opposite of that Billy Madison bit: I feel smarter having watched this. Keep it up, man. Can't wait to see where you go next, and it looks like I may have to finally play the Mafia games.
Hey Lock. I’m an old man who doesn’t know how to use social media and have loved you on LSM. Just wanted to let you know that your work is exactly what I am looking for. Keep it my friend and if you need to see my papers, Baldur’s Gate 2 is the greatest game of all time… I know you are an Edwin(a) fan but seeing the simple Minsc’s evolution has him as my fave. Keep it up buddy
A great retrospective level video that gives you an incredible amount of context and attention to detail. Up there with the likes of mandaloregaming and gmanlives
Thanks for the great review. Just played through the trilogy this past year, and reviewed them on my podcast, "Elementary Gaming". I haven't played through the original Mafia, so it was nice to see how it compares.
I was playing on the hardest difficulty and after 4-5 tries went to that glitch where you cause a pile up and after several attempts with that and not getting it to work I got so good at the driving I beat the race the normal way on my next first try lol , I think it's so hard because it's right in the beginning when no one has the driving down yet
Mafia 3 had so much going for it in my opinion, they should've kept it in the oven a while longer and ham out the repetitiveness . Soundtrack kicked ass
What I liked about the infamous race, is that you truly only got the rest of the game, because of how early on it was, as a kind of reward for this stupendously difficult test of your gamer skill, but it was worth it. I can't believe Tommy also didn't get past first base with Sarah on that mission he saved her life in the ''Definitive Edition''. Many people say Tommy is a sympathetic character, but he's not - he kind of reflected the dark, ambitious side of myself I had as a child, I liked that I got more cars and more clothes the worse and cruelled I became, even knocking off a politician like it was some small game for the Don after I had already made him the most powerful man in town, he still didn't have enough or feel satisfied with my efforts yet. Then, the game killed my avatar, killed Tommy the virtual protagonist I identify with and enjoy using to kill innocents to gain power for his cold career, to drive nicer and more luxurious cars, or more suits and hats (as his clothing slightly improved from the earlier cab driver outfit), only to have the game kill me in the storyline finale and tell me about how it was all about how I got too ambitious and selfish. Now that's art, and the entire artistic quality of the original game is lost in the remake where storyline in fact vindicates the mafia protagonist as a self-sacrificing family man, whose violent side and all the things he did to people throughout the game wasn't coming back to haunt him, but rather instead he is the victim of circumstance and necessity through poverty here - it's easy to miss that and see that as the original point of the original game, and that's how the remakers stumbled artistically - despite using improved graphics - the reverberation of his good actions and of his love of family, his morality as the cause of his death - whereas in the original, Tommy was immoral. The people that claim Tommy is a sympathetic and nicer person in the original and that is why it is better, therefore miss the point. In the original Tommy is a total psychopath, and that is why it is a better game, it reflects to the person playing a darker side of themselves, indulge a darker side, then shows the consequences of that action, unlike its sequels, including Mafia II, that ended up more as parodies and satires than the serious work of art the original is. Can I say really that Tommy is just a nice cab driver, who ended up by circumstances he couldn't control in the mafia and just wanted a good career and more options and respect? Then I am just like Tommy, and I deserve to figuratively and symbolically die too in that last mission, which is what Vavra does - he kills Tommy symbolically in the notion of his lifestyle, not just as an videogame protagonist.
Was very pleasantly surprised to see that you uploaded, after what you and Matty were discussing about your guy's channels. I had come into this video assuming mafia was good but ultimately not for me, but by the 30min mark I had all 4 games in my cart, including the original just so I could experience it in its true form.
I highly recommend installing the Community Modpack for the Mafia: The City Of Lost Heaven. Its like a non-official remaster version (not remake). Adds HD textures, better water effects, cars are improved, 16:9 patch, restores the og soundtrack thats missing from the steam version, and so much more
This games still a masterpiece gem game the Mafia 1 OG i know hat infamous race its like hard but they put a difficulty to be on easy and no damage on the car that make the race more easy but if you choose a big difficulty on the race and no damage on the car will be like : welcome to the hell :))
I was 8 I think when I played Mafia, unlike you however, I gave up after few hours of attempting to pass the race mission until my older cousin came over to my house and passed the mission for me a month later😂
Want to play the rest of the series so I avoided the parts with spoilers but damn was Mafia 1 good. I only played the definitive edition, but the feature where the road signs change accordlingly to your navigation needs to be in every open world game with cars. Looking constantly at the minimap sucks and they figured out the perfect solution to it. And sorry having to pronounce Czech names, nobody should ever have to go through that.
Thats why the minimap in the first game was transparent, and could be viewed when driving. You pressed a key, and the whole map was viewable in a full screen. Also it made you learn the road network.
Really love these videos but id love to hear more of your opinion on the games, why you love/hate them. You do so in the first game and definitive edition, but id really love you to hear what makes you love 2 and 3 in more detail.
Played Mafia 2 on Christmas Day. Will always think of Christmas when I’m in Empire Bay in the snow.
I just stumbled across this video and fully expected u to have at least 100K subscribers so u can imagine how shocked I was when I saw u only had 1,7K

Amazing video Lock!! I love these commentary videos where you go in depth. You are a fantastic writer!

Heyooo, thank you so much dude, I appreciate it a lot!
This is gonna be a fun watch. Literally just finished the first game a couple days ago
That was a great video Lock. I was always on the fence about this series but honestly I’m gonna try them out at some point after watching this.

amazing review brother , i can see that it took a lot of passion to make this video.
I’m sitting here thinking “this guy sounds familiar” then I realize I’m watching a lockmort video. Hell yea
Oh sheet I clicked on this not even noticing it was gonna be you Lock 😎 subbed
Thanks for the great review. Just played through the trilogy this past year, and reviewed them on my podcast, "Elementary Gaming". I haven't played through the original Mafia, so it was nice to see how it compares.
Love your videos dude! Very different to most other reviews and deep dives, keep up the good work 👍🏼
Nice! Another great video by the goat Lockmort!
I can't wait to watch. Coincidentally I watched your Dragon Age video earlier today 😆 happy new year!
Been looking forward to seeing this Lock.
I really gotta finally play these. I see the trilogy go on sale for $15. I am veryy interested in The Old Country.
I’ll be honest, I still had a tough time on normal with the race in the remake lol. I can’t imagine how much more infuriating it was in the original

Return of the King
It was my fist time playing a mafia game and I love MF DE

Return of the King 👑
15:49 where is this insane cook scene from?
Guesthouse Paradiso. A great 1999 comedy from the same guys who made the BBC show "Bottom".
I know mafia 3 is the worst out the bunch but still my favorite
Oh cool, what are some of your favorite things about the game?
@stephenthedude4383 the gameplay and music really immerse me in the story and I can relate to Lincoln clay more than the other 2 protagonists
honestly same, the story of Lincoln gripped me like no other, the music was fantastic and the gameplay is super smooth and satisfying.
I liked the first 1 the best but loved 3 also , 2 was my least favorite
@@Quack_attack_ wow my sister loves 2, what don't you think holds up? I haven't played it by the way
Day 1
mafia 1 and 2 yes are really that good
Yes, it is
Mafia 1 and mafia 3 are amazing.
Mafia 2 is a bit less amazing to me.
It’s a video game version of Goodfellas 😊
