Thank you for being honest about this. A lot of artists keep this information hush hush and pretend they're making 6 figures solely from selling their paintings when that's not true. And you have artists who shame other artists for teaching when that's how a lot of artists make the bulk of their money. It doesn't make you less of an artist for diversifying your income...it's actually that wisest thing to do.
@@StylesbyBee 💥 And let’s not mention the ones that have a spouse that pays all the household bills or have parents who left them a trust fund. They can rely on selling just their paintings because they don’t have a lot of financial responsibilities. And this is not to say it’s a bad thing. That’s a blessing but if that’s not your setup then you have to figure out a path that makes sense for you. It took me a while to understand this and I suffered a lot but hey now I know and can pass the information along.
This is so true. The ones with a course saying they’re making 6 figures from selling their paintings are actually making 6 figures from selling courses 😂 I’m not knocking their hustle though
@@luzdelasestrellas720Ha, my insta feed is completely full of artists asking me to pay to learn how to make a six figure sum from my art. Like, literally flooded with courses all pushing this same message. All I can think is if you were making six figures from your art you wouldn’t be flogging courses 🙄
I wish I had been focused on doing this years ago instead of busting my neck trying to make selling my art the only thing that puts food on the table. A very insightful and brilliant explanation of what to do and what not to do!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It sounds like you've learned a lot along the way, and I’m really glad this video resonated with you. The pressure to make art solely about survival can be tough, but trusting your process and taking the time to find balance is so important.💫
Tarra Lu, Came across your channel today and I had to like, share and subscribe! You are so organized and explain how to do stuff so well! I’m currently refining the rough manuscript for my 1st book of my poetry & art - so I feel very fortunate to have come across your channel and your advice.
Thank you so much for the support! Your poetry and art book sounds amazing-what an exciting project to be working on. I’m so glad you found the channel helpful, and I’m wishing you all the best as you refine your manuscript. Please keep me posted. I love poetry 🙂
Wow! It's funny because I'm working on selling my own products along with offering services. I would love to try art licensing eventually. Thank you for sharing this video. 😀
Thanks for sharing this, I’m very good at painting stuff on canvas, that will become clear on my channel, but I’ve never been good at marketing myself, this video has given me a better understanding of it and how to get into the marketing side of things, cheers and thanks 😊👍
@@DamosCreativeStudio Thank you for commenting! Marketing is hard for many artists but if we put more energy towards learning the marketing side it will make a world of difference.
Very informative and insightful. Now when I look at the successful artists I follow they all have a combination of licensing deals, in person and virtual workshops, courses, books, and products they’re selling. They’re not just relying on selling their paintings.
@@silverlee6862 Thank you for your comment. I’m glad you found it informative. I want people to know what’s really going on and unfortunately there’s a lot of cookie cutter information out there or the information isn’t shared at all.
Love the information. However, we artists should consider when paying taxes season comes. You may make some money, but taxes are very high for those who have small business or self-employed. Why not making a video on how you deal with your taxes. Share your experience please.
@@adrianaelliott5620 Thanks for watching and for mentioning taxes. As a sole proprietor the tax man ate up my little profits but once I started asking certain questions, my tax person told me what to do. I would love to talk about it in a video but it’s not my area of expertise so I have to be very careful and mindful with how I approach this subject. I can share my experience with taxes though.
Loved this video!! I so want to create multiple streams of income, just don't know where to start and how to get moving...I am definitely not interested in keeping an inventory and doing shipping...I've done that in the past when I tried my hand at reselling thrifted items. My house turned into a little warehouse...not doing that again! But the licensing really intrigues me...I'd need to figure out where to start, who to talk to and what to do...do you happen to have a video on that specific topic?
@@mimisart Thank you for watching! Art licensing is actually the best way to start because then you’ll have passive income but it is competitive and takes time and research. While I don’t have a specific video about it, I can make one sharing what I know about it. Let me know what questions you have ☺️
Thank you. This was valuable information. I especially liked having a time for everything. I have been struggling with time management since I’ve taken in new commitments.

@@tarralu Yes, we do need it. Even if we fight it lol 😂 I think as we mature, we all come to a point where we realize that we have to be selective with our time.
@@springnicole oh yes absolutely! I picked up strong organization skills back when I worked in the legal field but I never wanted to be organized with my art practice. Yes, in most cases you do. Most of them take a percentage off the royalties from the licensing deals they secure for you. Some charge an upfront fee and others will ask for an exclusive agreement in exchange for the deals they secured.
