Flooded batteries are fine. I went through an Arizona summer just fine with a worn battery on a diesel. All you have to do is fill to the recommended fluid level every 1-6mo and put it on a battery tender overnight to top off. That should last you 5-7 years. It also helps if your insulate the battery from engine heat even with cardboard (provided it's somewhere it won't combust) and allow only the 120°F air to hit it.
Been a minute since this truck, but find the ground that is there and piggy back off that if you can. If not enough room might be able to follow it to the frame and grab it there. I can't recall how it looks off top of my head, been a couple years now
@@AGuyandHisProjects thanks man appreciate it, mines a bit tight because the 2 main studs are right behind the belts lol definitly not enough room. ill find a spot thanks again
Dude this point in our vehicles ag3 i promise you better get used to reman. Now i grew up with a family member owning a alternator reman shop and ill say if its done by a good shop, a reman alternator is literally zero difference between a new alternator. You can buy the kits to reman them yourself. Once you learn how to do it you can do it pretty much quickly.
Yep, most things can be learned and done at home, easier to do it with love and get a nice job...problem is most of us will not go that route and we buy the ones that weren't made with love lol
I'm an 05 excursion it took about an hour to replace both battery and alternator. The new one from O'Reilly's was the wrong one. It is not like the motorcraft, completely different bolt pattern. Weird. I had to settle on a motorcraft remanufactured.
The vans alternator was like an 8 hour job that required the windshield wiper catch pan and entire intake manifold off in order to reach it. Never again. 😂
Hey bud, check out purchasing on Amazon, the cheapy and then buy the Allstate insurance policy. Covers not only the product BUT EVERYTHING ELSE, YEP , R&R
@@AGuyandHisProjects Just FYI- we’ll see how this turns out. I replaced alternator, real pain on my 98’ Cadi deville. I purchased Dorman vs Delco for about $100 less plus $13 for R&R 4 year warranty from Allstate.
@@mylodge312 keep me updated! Ideally you'd never have to use the warranty. I don't typically invest in the warranties simply because half the time it is to big of a PIA to get it taken care of. That said, there have been times I wished I had a warranty!
@@AGuyandHisProjects Absolutely agree with you, fighting warranties is a pain but for this price, what the hell, I’ll risk $13 versus fighting with this Cadi alternator. We’ll watch together if the Dorman holds up versus Delco. Again, thanks for your vids. I have 2000 excursion 6.8 in perfect great condition and pulled out of storage of 5 years, 90k. New fluids throughout, dropped gas tank, cleaned out and then flushed radiator. Ugh, a little oil in coolant. Well, have flushed with water and prestone cleaner 3 times, still lightly dirty water. The oil cooler gasket is leaking and found out I have model where cooler is in between engine mount and block, arghh. Looking to find vid that lets me undo driver side mount, slide out, clean and replace gasket and only have to Jack up engine on driver side. Any knowledge or input is always appreciated!
In simple terms torque spec is how tight or how much force is put into a bolt during the tightening process ;) jk. I get what you are saying. I do talk a lot. Importance is in the ear of the beholder
@@AGuyandHisProjects I am crabby because I have to change my alternator on the side of the road. I was trying to figure out what sockets to take. I am guessing the bolts holding the alternator on are 13mm head.

Flooded are fine, but I've come to prefer the AGM for sure!
If i wanted to add a ground wire to this alternator where would i install it?

What is the oval thing just behind the battery? Two wires running to it.
The black one? That is your vacuum canister.
@@AGuyandHisProjects a car has a vaccuum?
@@tkjazzer yep! It is used for the 4x4 hubs, the a/c, and not sure what else. Not a vacuum cleaner
Nice video
Thanks, hope it helped!

That sucks! I've been lucky on pretty much every alternator I've replaced so far. Can't say that about everything of course.

Pretty much just the ones you see me use in the video

Torque spec? You didn't even state the size of the bolts. You talk too much without saying anything important.
