This was a well illustrated video and saved me almost 2 hours of labor for doing it this way. Took me 10 minutes to replace and retest instead of following any service procedures on how to remove alternators. Thanks so much bud.
@@funbro1 I'm wondering. Mine came out without doing any of that. Just took the bolts out and the alternator was able to angle down and out of the belt. What's up with that
This video showed me how to remove part of the shroud so that I could get a pry bar in place to pull the belt. I could then engage the kick stand with the other hand. I had no idea the shroud came apart that easily. Thanks, it allowed me to replace my alternator myself saving at least $100.
For those working by themselves...a come along or ratchet strap anchored to something can help pull and hold the belt for you so you can get the kickstand engaged if you can’t pull the belt with one arm. Thanks for the tips in your video !
Thank you for this video. I was struggling and was mad because everyone says this was supposed too be an easy fix. I watched another video first. This is the way to go. I subscribed and will start with you first. Thank you.
Great video! Thanks. Last time I used a breaker in to turn and loosen the tensioner. The kickstand method I didn’t even know, which is insane because I’ve had to pop the belt off several times and have never seen that lol. Appreciate the super easy instructions. Getting my DC Power 240A in with upgrades wiring.
Thanks for showing how to remove the rear shroud. Everyone else say you have to remove the entire shroud assembly or just work around it. Very helpful.
I read the comments before watching the video and when i saw the word "kickstand" i was like "what?" i dont see a bike anywhere in the description, i understand now though, lol, i have to do this little job Monday at work and although i have changed countless alternators in my life i kinda like to see what I'm getting into beforehand, thanks for the video.
I just had my battery alternator checked. They told me it’s my alternator. I need to do tires so while I’m waiting on my tires changed my alternator thanks to your video
Thanks for making this Video. I had no idea about the Kick Stand. Ford sure made it easy for a change. New Subscriber and I plan on watching All your Vides. Thanks again for making this.👍👍
What a great video!!! Thank you for showing a nice close up and picture of that tensioner tab👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I’m a 5 foot nothing petite girl and the truck is raised so I got on it, standing on the battery very careful squatted down to grab and pulled with my left hand, had a long pry bar on my right and the power of prayer, got it done!! thanks to your video in 10 mins…
I watched other videos. This would have saved me hours. I tried to pull on the belt to get the 'kick stand' to engage. All I had to do was manually engage. Thanks even if too late for me.
The replacement alternator in this video was the same as the stock alternator. I would not recommend changing from the stock alternator without first doing some additional research. Thanks for watching
I changed out my batteries to rule them out. Turned the truck on and it turned out to be the alternator. I ordered a 200 Amp alternator. I'm wondering if the grounding is a concern.
Bob, I want to thank you this was a great video very detailed maybe use a flashlight to point at the tension or next time but excellent! Keep up with the great videos very much appreciated!
For some reason my belt needs to get pulled REALLLLY far.. is mine out of adjustment or something? It’s impossible for me to get that kickstand thing in place, the tensioner opening isn’t traveling enough
@@jamesjmluke1217 I bought a remanufactured alternator with life time warranty, lasted about 17 months on the 6.0! About a week ago the battery light came on, tested the alternator and it showed good, but it was bad! Buy one with life time warranty!
I’ve never had that problem, is it possible that your kickstand is just a little bit too long, or possibly you are not releasing enough tension on the belt? Maybe try using a longer handle on your prybar. Hope this helps
04 and earlier guys this will not work!! Need a serpentine belt tool to going into the tensioner to sneak in between the fan shroud. Still doable just a little more difficult without the newer style tensioner
Well saying pulled or pushed doesn’t tell me “what” you are pulling or pushing. Funny part is If you are talking about the kickstand you then say engaging the kickstand…except you said “kickstart”. Kickstart doesn’t tell me anything about what you are asking? But thanks for watching. Good luck kickstarting.
Just to help you with your confusion, Engage: (with reference to a part of a machine or engine) move into position so as to come into operation. Pretty straight forward. My confusion comes from where you ask about a “kickstart”???? I’ve kickstarted many motorcycles but never a diesel truck. NOW I think we have identified the issue.

My 5th video for this job and the 1st that actually went to the trouble of showing the "Kickstand!" Thanks!
Kinda makes you wonder. Thanks for watching.

OMG! I just changed mine today this is the best trick there is. I did mine by realising the belt, removing fan shrout,etc.. In the past.

Great video. I didn't know about the "kickstand". Great tip. Ford had a better idea there. Too bad Ford and Navistar didn't think the 6.0 better..Lol
Best video on the subject. Very well done! thank you sir!

Did you have to loosen the 10mm bolt on the tensioner or no?

You saved me some cheddar! You were right that kicker was not fun. I used a 1 inch dowel as leverage to engage it.

Thanks for the video. what's the AMPS on the stock and the new alternator? Can I use a upper alternator that is used for a duel system?
The replacement alternator in this video was the same as the stock alternator. I would not recommend changing from the stock alternator without first doing some additional research. Thanks for watching
Thank you!! Everything is easy when you know how.
You're welcome!

It shouldn’t be as long as you have a good connection.

very descriptive video it helped me a lot.
Glad to hear that, Thanks for watching.
Thanks my friend you save me money
Glad I could help

The easiest alternator replacement I ever did. I had to do one on a ford ranger years ago. What a headache.

Thank you boss for this video
Most welcome
Thanks! My wife thinks I'm a mechanic now....😅

Bob, I want to thank you this was a great video very detailed maybe use a flashlight to point at the tension or next time but excellent! Keep up with the great videos very much appreciated!
No room for a flashlight and a camera, it's kind of tight in there. Thanks for watching.

Sounds like something is not correct to me. Thanks for watching.
My kickstand broke when I touched it :/. Any other tips. Last thing I need is the stupid belt back on.
Just a small proof Metal the same length as the kick stand is all I have.
I wish you the best, thanks for watching.
Thank you, that was very helpful. Is it the same for a 2005 6.0 F250?
Should be. Thanks for watching.
How many amps it is recommended?
That can vary, some are rated at 110-130 but there is a high output that puts out somewhere in the 180 range. Hope this helps.
Thanks for watching.
What's the average lifespan for these alternators on the 6.0? Thanks in advance
This one went about 85,000 miles. Thanks for the view.
My battery light came on today but I only have 23,500 miles 06 F250. Would a reman be okay or OEM.
@@jamesjmluke1217 I bought a remanufactured alternator with life time warranty, lasted about 17 months on the 6.0! About a week ago the battery light came on, tested the alternator and it showed good, but it was bad! Buy one with life time warranty!
I’m having a problem with the kickstand. It won’t go in, like there’s no clearance/space for it to be pushed in. Any suggestions?
It’s a 2007 Ford F-250 diesel
I’ve never had that problem, is it possible that your kickstand is just a little bit too long, or possibly you are not releasing enough tension on the belt? Maybe try using a longer handle on your prybar. Hope this helps
I figured it out! My belt had to be man handled to pull it up and get that kickstand in place.
Thank you for this vid 👊🏼
Good to hear you solved the issue. Best of luck
Pull hard untill it stops
Om gosh this video helped alot !
Glad it was a help, Thanks for watching.
I need help. My tensioner does not have the kickstand. How else do I remove
You will have to have someone hold the tension off while the belt goes back on.
Thanks for watching.
04 and earlier guys this will not work!! Need a serpentine belt tool to going into the tensioner to sneak in between the fan shroud. Still doable just a little more difficult without the newer style tensioner
Where’s the alternator from?
How about the dual alternator 6.0?
Don't have one. Those are usually made for ambulances. Thanks for watching.
Good video
Thanks for the visit
Is it the same on 02 f250 superduty
It should be the same for the 6.0. I believe the 2002 was a 7.3L. Thanks for watching.
Who would give this a thumbs down? A Chevy mechanic?
Possibly? Thanks for watching.
nice video
Thanks for watching.
Is it the same for a 2004
If it has a 6.0 then probably. Thanks for watching.
Thank!
Thanks for watching.
I guess them make them easy to replace because they know they don’t last long, im putting in my 3rd alternator in 7 years on the same truck
Pussh up or down on tentioner
hellow please right what oil in automat fort f450 super duty.
Check out my other videos I believe you will find your answer there.
Thanks for watching.
It's pretty sad that Ford knew these alternators weren't going to last so they added a kick stand to be able to replace it once a year in 10 minutes.
I agree.
Thanks for watching.
I got nearly 400k miles on my truck before I had to replace the one in my rig. So IDK
@@giovannigiorgio8962 it's these junk autopart store alternators
Why not show what your doing when the belt is tight? I have no idea what you just did you release the belt....
I showed it in the video. Thanks for watching.
Awesome except it takes 3 hands to do and I am one hand short.
You may need to borrow a hand then. try shooting a video while doing this job. LOL Thanks for watching.
Saying “engage” doesn’t tell me if the position is pulled or pushed. Didn’t even show yourself “engaging” the kickstart.
