      Hi Freya, a beautiful reaction. What an amazing version, I love it too.
      I’d love you to react to Angelina Jordan. Your energy and emotion will connect with her. She is an amazing human being.
      At 6 yrs old she was in the Middle East when she meet a young girl weighing people for money. The little girl asked Angelina what she wanted to do when she grows up, she said I want to be a superstar. The little girl said she would pray every day for this to happen. The next year at 7. Angelina won her countries Got talent contest. She has over 140 covers on RUclips and has now just turned 18. Check out her Bohemian Rhapsody cover at 13 on AGT. Or I put a spell on you. And so so many more. I warn you though. You will fall into an amazing rabbit hole and might never come back.
      Enjoy ❤

    "Lose Yourself" is a soundtrack song for the movie "8 Mile". The first verse talks about the character Eminem plays in the movie, Jimmy Smith Jr. AKA "B Rabbit", in the third person. The second verse is also in third person and it's hard to tell if it's talking about Jimmy's future after the movie, or Em's past. The third verse is Em talking about himself in the first person.
    Contrary to popular belief, the movie 8 Mile is not a biographical film. Em isn't playing himself in the movie, he's playing a fictional character, and he wasn't even the first person considered to play the role. But when he got the role, he put a lot of himself in it, so there are many parallels between Jimmy's life and Marshall's.
    This song will make more sense when you see the movie. He also wrote 2 other songs for the movie, both from the perspective of Jimmy himself, called "8 Mile Road" and "Rabbit Run".

    Thank you for reviewing both the original and the cover together. Both versions of Lose Yourself are fantastic in their own ways. Both songs evoke strong emotions but in slightly different (but good) ways. For me, it's not a case of which one is better - both are amazing and one wouldn't exist without the other. Kasey's cover pays homage to Em's original song both in lyrics as well as intention. Bravo to both.

    Eminem's performance is like a 'punch in the face' lol.., but powerful. Whereas Kasey peels back the 'rage' and slowly tells the story of his difficult early life with such emotion one can't help but be mesmerized. Then she finds her own anger and passion and the band kicks in and WOW she leaves it all on the floor. Best ever cover performance I've ever seen.

Or the Fugees' cover of "Killing Me Softly"? (Originals by: Nine Inch Nails, Dolly Parton, Simon & Garfunkel, Kanye West and Roberta Flack respectively). Not arguing at all about first & second place, though.

    I really enjoyed watching you react to Kasey- it seemed to me that you connected with her on many levels. I have heard you sing yet but I imagine you are very accomplished because, yo understood that when she kept it small in the beginning she employed ancient techniques such as flips, yodels, kulning, breathiness and harsh belts seemingly effortlessly. You understood that with each new verse she turned the heat and energy up a notch. You understood that Kasey really felt the spirit of this song, that’s she too has lived it. I also feel like both you and Kasey have a spiritual connection with the universe and you see that in her. You see her strength and her frailty and her mastery of not being afraid to show it. Very well done. I’m subscribing based on the way your mind works. Thanks! 🙂🇦🇺

    The advantage a singer has over a rapper is they can convey emotion with there voice a rapper has to keep time to the beat,a singer can make the music fit what there doing with the words.

    • @heffatheanimal2200
      @heffatheanimal2200 8 месяцев назад +1

      I dunno. I was debating this with a mate. Rap is kind of a middle ground between vocal music and poetry reading, and a person who's skilled in the latter can still get a lot of emotion in while keeping the poetic structure flowing. Most rap originate from at least an assertive emotion, and often very combative, so it's the norm to hear forcefulness, frustration, aggression in a rappers voice. Add to that the popular emphasis on spitting bars as fast as the beat allows.
      Imagine a rap song with a slower, melancholy, pained rhythm, but with enough movement to not sound sludgy. Then add a skilled and emotionally connected lyrical rapper, with a story of depression, pain, struggle, grief, etc.

"Not Pretty enough" from about the same time is her struggle song . "The Captain" made it onto The Sopranos. More recently, "Ain't No Little Girl" (live versions) reflects a more mature voice & no BS mindset.

    I stopped watching because YOU were the main view. I am more interested in the artist than the critic.

      LOL, no worries here. This is a reaction channel --if you want to watch the videos, I link them in the description. P.S. -- the view is the way it is, so the video doesn't get blocked which I learned to do the hard way. But thanks so much for your very valuable input and critique of me.
